Sony aren’t exactly the most consumer friendly company lately, if they can milk their customers dry though NFTs etc I’m sure they will try.

I’m sure they are watching Square closely.

For me personally, Square Enix is now dead to me.

No but they are smart and know what audiences want. They get what’s good for them from Square without owning them already.

Dusk Golem is saying he isn’t making any of this up. Also it seems the source got copyright striked and the images are gone.

And we also had reputable sources say that multiple SH games were in the works. But I do get you though.

I always wanted to pay demo and pay more for my games. Sorry, I had to do it, but I get you.

True, even if someone (except perhaps MS) were to buy Square they would still likely release their games on PS so there doesn’t appear to be much benefit.

I highly doubt MS are interested in Square tbh even with Final Fantasy.

2022 is legitimately the worst year I’ve ever experienced in terms of video game releases. We’re two years into the console, there should be system sellers by now. This is how a console should look two years after launch.

Would be interesting if FF16 is released this year. And it is Sony’s exclusive too.

Microsoft should start moneyhatting left and right.

There’s still a lack of games announced from 3rd party publishers regardless of COVID, and look at other similar entertainment industries too. How come the movie industry is pumping out tv and movies constantly while covid is an excuse from gaming?

Game developers were working from home, it’s all remote work.

What are the games expected to be released this year? Out of my head

  • Saints Row 3 (deal with EGS)
  • Forspoken (Sony time exclusive)
  • FF16 (not sure, Sony time exclusive)
  • Gotham Knights (not sure after the latest showcase)
  • Harry Potter (not sure)
  • Modern Warfare 2 (Sony marketing deal)

Please do not go down this path.

all I’m saying is we should expect more from not just first party, but third party publishers. There’s legitimately a problem right now in gaming of a lack of games coming out. EA, Activision and Ubisoft are too focused on live service games to give us proper $60-70 releases

Movies largely skipped 2020. Sonic The Hedgehog could have gotten an Oscar. Top Gun was supposed to be out two years ago. Every industry has different effect.

Orrrrr the fact that both first and third parties have issues means you are underestimating the impact of the pandemic.

Reminder: Xbox employees just got back in office this year.

No. You used the word ‘excuse’ which just goes to show that you have no appreciation and understanding of how Covid has pushed back development on some games by more than a year. You do not need to take my word for it but people like Phil and Matt Booty, and also see the evidence before your eyes.

Exactly. It has affected everyone to one extent or another. It is therefore not an ‘excuse’ but the sad reality of what has happened with game development.

while covid has pushed games back, we still weren’t seeing games from third parties even late into last gen that were worthy of praise aside from maybe 2 third party publishers, Rockstar and Capcom.

I am not discussing that though. I wanted to immediately put a stop to your insinuation that Covid has not affected game development.

I mean, the entire launch window was cross gen games. What are you talking about?
