However the overall point does stand because of how the BVH structures used for RayTracing does require memory, and that memory pressure does require some additional developer efforts. They can’t just simply turn a dial down, they have to spend some level of effort.

Lots of IFs on the overall design of the S, like slightly more ram or slight higher TFs, etc, but any change or alteration in what was delivered would have lead to a higher price range.

People who buy the Series S are typically the people who don’t give a shit about specs as long as the game looks half decent and isn’t buggy. You don’t buy a Honda Civic expecting it to run as nicely as a BMW, they know what they are buying.

Yeah at the end of the day, series s is just an affordable option if people want to enter the next gen with compromises and I think it’s target audience will be more than fine with that.

I don’t care one bit for the S myself, but this does make all the sense in the world. Very interesting to read! It’s definitely great news for S owners.

Nope, and don’t think the deals tipped scale fir market share . I think star wars could be a big deal though because of its good I feel that could move consoles

Be awesome if they could do this

Well, without Series S version there is no Series X version so better buckle up devs. I also want to see their faces when they have to make a Steam Deck or Switch 2 version :woman_shrugging:

It’s gotta be somewhat profitable for the publishers because they keep doing it. I think Sony knows they’re taking a hit going into it to secure more of the mindshare market. I think they’ll slowly stop doing it now that XBOX is obviously not dying.

It made sense in the X1/PS4 era, it’s good “business” to try and step on your competitors throat when they’re at their weakest.

Yeah, KOTOR, smh that this happened. Course we don’t know what exactly happened but the remake of a game that was a huge XBOX exclusive, ah well.

For publishers it’s easy money because Sony is covering lost sale on Xbox and marketing. Then they can always get some sales once exclusivity is over. However I feel like these deals don’t help Sony much because most of these games wouldn’t sway a person on the fence and for this gen only star wars will do that since I feel final fantasy player base already on ps5

Yeah it doesn’t, it’s purely for mindshare market when it comes to these less popular AAA timed exclusives.

This is cool because it suggests that buyers could use their old Xbox one consoles/360/og Xbox consoles to verify their games through wifi or some sort of USB connection.

YES. In many ways; Financially, experience, knowledge, marketing, other services ( in Playstation case, music and motion capture… etc) just thinking of a chance to be at super popular gaming show such Nintendo direct or Playstation SOP is a huge deal for devs. Imagine putting “PS5 exclusive tag” how many gaming sites, Youtubers, Streamers, social… etc will spread the word and get free coverage from them? Can tell the upfront money is not issue with partner such Playstation.

Couldn’t count how many times Deathloop team has thanked Sony on supporting the project, felt the team is 1P for the platform.

Deathloop and Ghostwire: Tokyo sold poorly, no?

Hold up. Where in Aus are you that 20 Celsius is cold? Must be new south wales or victoria.
