Persona 6 exclusive to PS5 = Death of the franchise. That’s basically cutting Japan off from the game. I don’t believe it because even Persona 5 launched on PS3 in 2017. P6 will at least also be on PS4.

If you’re comparing just Xbox and PS then yeah get a PS for JRPGs but you absolutely do NOT “need” a PS5 for JRPGs especially with the thing tanking in Japan and more and more devs saying they’ll be developing for Switch or Switch’s successor. The vast majority of JRPGs don’t have Sony ties. MS can still do something about those.
Sony is not getting DQ exclusively. This isn’t up to Square. Yuji Horii at Armor Project also has say where the game is going and he will want it on Switch. This will probably be his last DQ before retirement and he is not sending this game to die in Japan by making it PS5 exclusive. DQ11 Switch STILL charts in the Famitsu Top 30 sales. Even if the Switch version is drastically different like DQ11 on 3DS (Which they made because DQ11 being PS4 exclusive was going to lead to mediocre sales in Japan), then that’s what will happen.
Xbox getting the game remains to be seen (I’m optimistic. I think the game will launch on all platforms) but Sony isn’t getting that game exclusively.
Atlus would be better off making a multiplatform game other than Persona if they aren’t going to make Persona multiplatform. They would do much better.

I have such fond memories of Lost Odyssey. It really was a special experience. I just started replaying Blue Dragon not that long ago funnily enough and while some of its aspects are dated, I’m a huge sucker for a job system. Would absolutely love to see a big first-party JRPG like what MS are seemingly doing for Fable. Still so bummed about where Sakaguchi ended up (for myself, I’m sure he’s fine with where he is)

Now Steam Deck, that will actually be the ultimate JRPG machine lol. You’ll get every non-first party Switch exclusive JRPG since those always come to Steam later, and you’ll get every PS5 JRPG except Persona I assume (and I assume Final Fantasy and Persona will be the only titles under this category at all), and then of course you’ll get all the multiplats since they all come to Steam too.
Ironically the thing isn’t even releasing in Japan!

??? A game has to be good first of all or at least remotely interesting for people to play it irrelevant of game pass (Bleeding Edge). Game could be free for all I care but if its not good or worth my time people are not gonna bother.
Game pass isnt a shield to excuse lack of growth, interest, etc. If a game is bad and it launches on game pass its still a bad game.

Is Nate the one who said Strangers of Paradise was going to be PS5 exclusive? Because to me that is confirmation that P6 is not PS5 exclusive lol.
I know SEGA gives Atlus almost full autonomy but really this is one situation where I expect a little slapping around to get the game on Switch/Switch successor
EDIT: In the actual podcast Nate mentions several times that these are just his predictions and he has no actual inside info. So even the P4 port could be not happening. I will stick with my prediction that P6 will be on PS4/PS5 at the very least, though I’m at least 30% certain it will be on Switch.

Why not? If loads of people play JRPG’s made by Square or Atlus, I’m sure those publishers will see the interest in these genres.
It was the popularity of Age of Empires 2 that lead us to Age of Empires 4 afterall

Because those ff are old as hell already and most people are probab done with them. The latest most successful games from them have skipped xbox (FF7R and 14) so Eh cant really vote with our wallet either.
And what was the last Atlus game to hit xbox?

The thing for me is, I just don’t care about Switch except for a few exclusives. It’s really all about Xbox for me and I hope your optimism turns out to be correct. 
Anyway, there is nothing Xbox users can do to solve MS issues with japanese games, it’s not their fault in the first place, but MS and publishers.

Yep. MS could absolutely be doing more. They have a decent relationship with Koei Tecmo… except for Gust (their JRPG division). Why not work to get those? The amount of games they crank out alone would help a ton. They worked with NISA to have Disgaea 4 on PC Pass day 1, what happened after that? Why not work to get that on console too? And work with them for their Falcom titles (Stadia did it. MS can do it). And of course, the grand question, when will there be another XGS published JRPG?
