Phil Fish was rude but still, he told the cold truth. Remember this was asked at the GDC panel in the context about the Indie Game movie. And japanese indie game scene and culture was severely underdeveloped then (and still is).
IIRC the guy asking was a dev on FF13. So after playing this and FF15 I have to say: their games now suck even more.
I am pretty sure that Fish was asked if he was being influenced by Japanese games as a developer and he replied with this, this had nothing to do with the Japanese indie scene. And even if the dude asking the question was a FF13 dev that doesnât make it right to respond like that. He was a rude piece of shit to someone asking a question with good intentions. And the sad thing is that almost everyone from the rest of the panel responded like dicks too (with only Blow trying to keep things civil with actually trying to make some arguments like an adult), cheering and stuffâŚall this âus versus themâ mentality is completely stupid and dumb.
Also if FF13 & FF15 suck (I didnât like them at all as well) that doesnât mean that âJapanese games suckâ, there are hundreds of games coming from Japan from a plethora of different devs/publishers every generationâŚas I said generalizing is a shitty thing to do.

and while I find Souls and FS overrated in general, some of those tweets and messages iv seen not only come across as jealous at best but straight up racist at worst
Well what a bad way to wake up to my grandmother passed away this morning i knew for a while that she didnât have much time left what also makes it really hurt is around this time next month i would be visiting her in south Carolina so for me personally that makes it hurt even more cherish those around you

Wow he sucked in that clip. I know it was meant to be a âjokeâ, but it really didnât come off as it. Reminded me of some old top gear videos I saw recently that made me think âwow, these guys just go full on racist, donât they.â
Itâs easy to look at something like âJapanese games suckâ and play if off, but that video was just awkward. Crazy to me that everyone else was just laughing and going along with it too.
A few years ago I had lost my last grandparent. She passed after her 73rd birthday. We all made sure to spend some time with her in the hospital before she passed. Itâs always ok to spend some time to heal.

I think it was about Deathloop in one of the podcasts. He said along the lines that âThere is something about Deathloop contract that I know and I wish Microsoft broke itâ or something. But he never said what he meant that time.
