It is. Just not the Chief as the sad dad
He is tired, old, deeply regretful of how he handled the Cortana situation and is trying to make amends, establishes a new relationship with the Pilot and Weapon who respectively bring in a sense of human anxiety/fragility and a youthful presence that he now has purpose in his life to look after and preserve, all while sticking to his duty of saving mankind and saying badass one-liners. I donāt know about you, but thatās as sad dad as you can get, just short of being a literal dad, in the same way Peter Parker or fucking hell, Aloy arenāt dads.
