Numbers Alert :rotating_light:

It seems like every “named” title make bonker numbers these days.

It was Postal Redux yes. Anyway, I’ve got many reasons now to believe that ID@Xbox has this “prudish” problem and not Xbox as a whole. They’ve also rejected anime games that are not as “bad” as non-indie games that get released on Xbox (when we have the BackCompat team adding stuff like Rumble Roses and Oneechanbara, but then we have the Visual Novel publisher Gamuzumi saying ID@Xbox is telling them to cover up all anime girl cleavage in their titles, there is blatant dissonance going on here). Had Postal Redux not been submitted through ID@Xbox I think it would have been released. I guess it’s also important to note that there actually hasn’t been any games that were censored on Xbox that weren’t censored elsewhere yet… Only rejected releases.

With Sony it is a lot worse, and it’s why I personally left Playstation as it was affecting quite a few Japanese games I enjoyed, and some of the developers were even saying Sony was acting very hostile and thuggish towards them (Senran Kagura series creator left Marvelous over it… Which makes me interested to see if Senran Kagura would be possible on Xbox, because it’s not an indie release and Marvelous supports Xbox now). I was not interested in supporting that behavior.

I can’t say for sure, but I think their issue might stem from the depiction of underage girls. Rumble Roses and Oneechanbara depict adult women, where as a game like Gal Gun has a highschool protagonist shooting highschool girls in the genitals with a water gun.

I think they’re hyper sensitive to this stuff for obvious reasons. I could be wrong though, just shooting from the hip on this issue.

So long as it’s good. Love me some Blade Runner!

This is why sony is censoring it seems

Well, Gal Gun was a 360 game, so that content you just described has already been on the console lol… And even IGN gave a quick promotion/shoutout to the remaster when it was coming out so I don’t think a PR problem would have happened (I think they even mistakenly stated it was still coming to Xbox too). Maybe they could have compromised here and let it release on the JP Store only (Gal Gun 360 was a Japan only game), idk.

But, I mentioned visual novels from the company “Gamuzumi”. They’ve said ID@Xbox has rejected many of their titles by now. One example is “Legends of Talia: Arcadia”, which, only going off of a quick look at the Steam page, doesn’t appear to have any characters “worse” than the 2 Backcompat games I mentioned (if those 2 heroines are the only characters. I don’t know). This VN was also released on Switch and even PS without issue and only got a T rating, but they said ID@Xbox rejected it.

This person doesn’t seem interested in playing this game, censored or not. and appears to have forgotten that it is fictional and they do not have to play it. Doesn’t sound like something I would play either but I’m not going to champion censoring it.

To me, M rating should be an automatic approval. There is no reason to be denying/censoring M rated games unless the game is a buggy asset flip that is crashing the console. There were people championing the anime game censors and well, this is the result, more censorship. Not nipping it in the bud will always result in the policies only getting worse.

Another interesting thing: R-type final 2 censored a boss that looked very “phallic” on certain regions on other platforms. Xbox is the only platform that allowed it worldwide

ID@Xbox not sponsoring your title is not censorship. It just means you don’t get ressources (money, devkit, marketing) from the ID@Xbox program.

Well, I read their site here before

https://www.xbox.com/en-CA/developers/id

and there is this bit

When you’re ready to submit a game to ID@Xbox, we’ll send you a Game Information Form to complete, telling us more about your title. While we’re not trying to be censors, we’re also not interested in enabling extremely vulgar, offensive, or objectionable games. In terms of content, we’re looking for games that feel at home on their target platform and that reflect what customers expect when gaming on Xbox One or Windows.

I figured that meant you’re not getting a release if they found your game “vulgar”. If it’s a “no money” issue, I guess that’s why all these games get cancelled instead of releases. No money to do it.

Thats not censorship. ID@Xbox is not the only publisher for Indie games on Xbox :woman_shrugging:t6:

So basically Switch/Xbox gets Resident Evil Saturn version and PS gets their own edition. Or Switch/Xbox gets unrated blu-ray and PS gets theatrical edition?

Horror games go some dark places, go play Visage (which is not censored on Playstation).

Yea so its weird

Their censorship is odd, especially with animated blood like why. It’s like they have a filter that doesn’t compute correctly.

It’s pretty funny I see people defending it though with the reasonings of “I played the demo and it is extremely disturbing, sickening, and gave me nightmares.”

…Like horror stuff should?

If you’re not doing something ilegal e.g CP, your content should be fair game

Does that mean they have to fund it i.e. ID@xbox, of course not but they should be allowed to release their games unaltered

“OMG this is sick, absolutely disgusting” ok bro…don’t play it then?

People have no problem with body horror movies like “Saw” and “Final Destination” being made, but goddamn if a video game does it theyll champion its censorship. Dont like it, dont play it, as simple as that.

This was brought up in the “Japan Strategy” thread, I’ll post it here for more exposure. Gust (Atelier series) says “Xbox ports will be considered if there is enough fan requests.”

To me I don’t think it happens without MS involvement, but I wonder what Xbox players can do to get their voices heard?

Roronoa needed a timeout, he’s way to invested in this fanboy warfare.
