Same. Xbox don’t need Bungie after ABK, and can spend the money on something else like … Capcom
Like everyone said, no reason to sell when they are at peak performance right now.
And I’ll continue to say that I do not think the acquisition spree will hit Japanese publishers.
No shit lol. Neither Phil nor Jim will ever say they’re done (I’m not saying PS is done.)
Bungie while being very successful on the gaming side would probably have us think why would they sell? But it’s their ambitions beyond gaming that weighed in here. Capcom doesn’t have any grand ambitions on that front, at least as of public knowledge (outside these awful RE and Monster Hunter live action stuff lately that very much didn’t pan out well lol), and they’re probably at the peak of success in their entire history rn. So they ain’t selling yet.
Can they go bigger than this though?
If Bungie was the same as their heyday alas Halo trilogy, I would reacted more. Even so, that amount for one studio is pretty high. I can even understand Activision with their studios and such. I hope Sony knows what to do with them. The funny thing is, there’s no really good news. Just news. Like with Activision, it was good news for the workers, which was the most important factor. Here, it’s like “Okay. So much for Japanese being recognized.”
honestly, no idea currently lol. Square Enix might be on the block for all we know.
MS did a 7 billion dollar deal, and then did a 70 billion one.
Sony might pull off a similar upward situation, of course not to the same scale, but still.
You what would be interesting? If Sony maintains Bungie games multiplatform, this could maybe mean they want MS to do the same with CoD, a hidden deal.
very incongruent expectation if so. CoD is much bigger than Destiny and Activision doesn’t have to agree to the same terms Bungie did.
So basically, Sony is still on their knees when all things considered. That’s actually funny.
They’re really hammering this multiplatform approach, it’s really strange, this is Sony after all.
So apparently, this was in the talk for good 5 or 6 months. I think Activision came in knocking and Microsoft skipped this one. Who wouldn’t right? Lol.
probably had to be the case for the deal to happen I guess? This goes to add in to the growing philosophy at Sony of “beyond just a plastic box”, something explicitly mentioned by Jim too. Relaxing their contingency on how important plastic box exclusivity is in their deals, is an improvement I appreciate to see, even if it’s taking its time lol.
Ragnarok and Bloodborne on PC soon, hopefully.
“There! Now please tell me CoD will be coming to PS after the contractual agreement expires!”
Very organic! I’ve tried so many times to get into Destiny but just doesn’t click. I really don’t know what Sony gets out of the deal though? First dibs on a new ip?
This is a fantastic model for a potential IO acquisition.
Guess could still mean just on PC too, but it does seem that it’s everything.
Sony were always going to acquire more studios, they picked up 5 from the organic studios store last year alone.
That said I cannot see any acquisition beyond this at double or above this value.
People will point to MS, but in this instance there was and is a considerable difference in purchasing power and, perhaps more clinically, need.
