Justin put out his MaxPayne 3 retro review and man he did a great job with it.

I remember loving this game when it was new. And like Justin has been dying for I always wanted it to get the FPS boost treatment. Now that it has it I’ve been planning to play it again, just haven’t done so yet. After watching this review though, I think I know what I’m playing next now

Story of Seasons randomly got a Windows Store achievement list. I wonder if that means it’s headed to Game Pass? I’d love to see Marvelous get hooked on the Game Pass train. Maybe even port some “exclusively not on Xbox games” like Sakuna of Rice and Ruin.

Daemon x Machina is also free on EGS and they published that so maybe that can come too. It’d be an Octopath like situation where it went Switch → PC → Xbox

Everyone is using the Halo Infinite tagline now

The Rock is Finally coming back to Doom! and this time as the Doom Guy!

Welp. Microsoft stock is back at over 300 per share. It goes without saying, Xbox is here to stay. If haters wanted this to be Sega and fly off to the sunset, that chance is long gone. Xbox One was probably the closest they got, but even then it survived under circumstance. The beast is unleashed.

The new bit of FUD is that MS is dying to put Gamepass on PS so they can exit the console industry as a Publisher. Crazy how narratives change in real time.

What’s messed up is that you have a lot of Xbox folks parroting this same thought process, even here, and I expect people to keep regurgitating it over and over.

It’s such a weird thing. The cloud doesn’t run on actual water vapor. They need hardware for the server blades, which means they will never stop making new hardware. They’ve locked themselves in to new systems being made to power this thing for…ever?

Yup and it basically legitimizes it when you hear certain xbox youtubers parroting it.

I will never understand why people want Xbox to fail and go away. Without Xbox, Playstation fans would probably still be stuck with Ken Kutaragi, would probably be paying $1000+ for their console and games would probably cost $100+. Not to mention there would probably be no comprehensive online service and you’d be forced to create a new account for each game. Also, their 1st party games would probably lack the quality we currently see. I’m sure there are dozens of other problems I’m not thinking of, but you get the idea.

Competition is good. It drives companies to work harder for your dollar and your loyalty. No real gamer should want Xbox or Playstation to be “defeated”. Nintendo too I guess.

Where does that leave the prospect of more Xbox games coming to non-Xbox consoles? Spencer told me that “it doesn’t feel sustainable” to consider Xbox games on a case by case basis for Switch and said, “In order to really support it, I would want a full Xbox ecosystem somewhere. And that probably means things like Live and Game Pass and stuff.”

This is Phil Spencer’s comment to Kotaku about this. Remember, when people say MS wants Xbox on PlayStation, they don’t mean to put Halo on the PS Store and maybe have a scaled back EA Play style deal. They could have had that without a second thought.

They want Xbox on PlayStation. They want you to open an app, on your PS5, that turns the thing into an Xbox, where they make the money.

That’s not getting out of the industry, that’s taking over the PS5 like the Cordyceps Fungus takes over a human in TLOU.

Anything wrong with that? No, not really. It’s better for the consumer. But MS isn’t going “Oh, we could just go third party out of the kindness of our heart” the way some people spread the FUD.

This would be great and sad at the same time

That’s also why it would never happen: what MS wants would tear a hole in PS operation and what Sony would accept (actual ports and 1st party only) would weaken Xbox.

You think there is a way both companies can compromise where its a win for everyone?

I don’t think there’s a middle ground, it will be a war of attrition for the next 10 years I think, then the last brand standing at the top will have the higher ground to dictate the terms.

riperoni sony then

Don’t underestimate Sony, they might lack the financial prowess, but PS is a bigger and (real) worldwide brand, that’s also why I laugh when I hear about FAANG swooping in and becoming leader, when MS is only cracking the market now after 20 years (they did it briefly during 360, but it all went south with Kinect) of brand awareness.

Oh shit

I hope they continue to fumble in the gaming space minus MSFT. I can’t imagine gaming without Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo. Wouldn’t feel right at all
