Yeah, well, if MS loses Kojima for Sony again would be a terrible look, they can’t afford to behave like corporate bean counters this time, moreover they really have infinite money compared to Sony and when they want they show it (Zenimax).

What was the last thing Grubb said about it, that the talks for a deal were still ongoing , right? Think this was a few months ago by now.

Wasn’t Grubb himself that said that a deal with MS would not stop Kojima from working with Sony at the same time ? At the very least, if true, you can say this puts an end to the Abandoned rumours, because I don’t see Kojima working on DS Director’s cut, DS 2, an Xbox project and Silent Hill at the same time

Agreed. For all the money Microsoft has, sometimes you need to overpay and just get the deal done, wrapped up, signed and sealed. I’m not a Kojima guy but I know what getting him would mean for Xbox so in my eyes, it’s simple - game must be exclusive for Xbox Series/PC/Cloud and on Game Pass day one in all three aspects and in return, Kojima gets the money, time, resources, etc. that he wants. Of course, I would probably also want to sign him to a multi-game deal and if his first game is episodic, that’s only one game so he would still have to develop and release another game.

They were still ongoing which was before E3 if I remember correctly and then Microsoft hired the lady from Google that was working to get Kojima’s game on Stadia. I don’t remember her name but that’s what Grubb also said.

Yeah, he did. I personally don’t understand why Microsoft would do/allow that. Sony is paying for exclusive games and content but Microsoft would be like, yeah, sure Kojima, you can work with Sony at the same time. Like, WTF?

I like Spencer and company but I really wish that they would get that killer instinct and stop trying to please and be friendly with everyone especially their competition. And especially, when they’re not getting anything of equal or greater value in return.

I know and completely agree. But if im Microsoft and Kojima still wants to work with Sony at the same time, I would pull the offer and say, well, hope things go well for you over there. I wouldn’t accept that because once you make a deal like that, that leaves an opening for everyone else to ask/want/demand the same exact shit. Just no.

That wouldn’t be hilarious for me. lmao. So he wants to do episodic and first person horror? All I was ever hearing was that he wanted to do some kind of game that uses/implements the Cloud in some way. Today is the first time im seeing horror, episodic and first person discussed. I’m definitely lagging behind in info. lmao.

True and agreed. Sony has a history of doing shit like that. Like announcing the Insomniac acquisition minutes before Gears 5 was being shown at Gamescom 2019.

Stadia is literally linux platform just with the access via streaming. With Xbox probably Kojima can achieve more as they the local hardware. Remember the stunts he pulled off in PS1 era.

Playstation has the bigger market and mind share. It is undeniable. I know that some folks don’t like to listen to that, but Playstation is very attractive platform - despite PS5 being ugly as hell - for the developers due to mind share reasons.

Yeah, he wanted to make the game with Ito junji in the past. Also if you have Game Pass you won’t pay for that. It would be hilarious if he makes 1st person horror games for Xbox and 3rd person game for Playstation.

Basically there are two options there. I originally believed that Kojima’s deal with MS is something more than just some games - I mean you don’t hire people from other companies just for lulz. But with the recent other rumours - it might be possible that he is doing something for Sony. Unlike MS, Sony is very aggressive and I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony would do whatever it takes just to put the roadblocks to MS. They are act that way all the time. So the second option is that they were able to ask Kojima for another game for Playstaiton and provided the resources for that.

We’ll see soon enough, there is too much smoke over this situation. I personally think MS should not behave like the usual american company this time, they need to sign this deal, otherwise how they think to persuade japanese devs/pubs they care about them?

But again, signing a deal with Sony won’t stop Kojima from doing the same with MS, especially if he wants to work on multiple projects.

I think Sony could do that and made an offer to Kojima for another game on Playstation. Just to steal the thunder from Microsoft. I wouldn’t be surprised if they would announce the game like - “big 3rd person action game” - the same day/before/next day after MS’ reveal. If the game exists of course.

I mean they were petty enough to announce Discord coming to Playstation, days (or the same day) after we learnt that Discord deal fell apart for MS. Or just like the announced the amount of sold consoles the next day after MS quarterly report.

And Kojima is making the exclusive game for Xbox is a big deal, but if Sony announces that Kojima is doing the game for Playstation, it will steal all the momentum from Xbox.

Phil was quite clear during the Bethesda roundtable when he said they need a foothold in Japan. Sure, with Tango you have a great start at that, but I sure hope they go full speed with this deal with Kojima.

Yeah, I know, I only hope they would not look like fools if Sony announces a partnership the day after out of spite (and we know they would do it). We all have seen the difference in Sony vs MS reach with Bethesda, it’s time to show it in Japan again.

Pretty sure nobody will care, especially if MS announces a deal with them at TGA.

Let’s see what Grubb has to say about it, hopefully next week. Maybe he knows something about what Norman Reedus was talking about, or not.

Was Death Stranding even profitable enough to warrant a full sequel?

I think you guys are way overestimating the impact that would have on Xbox, especially if they have a project going on. Let’s not get worried over every single things, it is gonna be fine. And if Kojima had that big of an impact, DS’ sales would have been through the roof.

I’m concerned because I’m not seeing MS ability to do something substantial in Japan.

Normally Sony shouts at the rooftops how much they sold for a game they published but that didn’t happen with DS even returnal got a sales shoutout.

Unfortunately asking MS to be more aggressive is considered console warring…

I don’t think we are overestimating. Big names, big games, awards they build the mind share. It is like hiring a famous actor for the movie. Mind share is important.

I mean some people have attitude that “who cares if Sony gets time exclusive games, they come to Xbox anyway” but of course it affects the general perception.

But if they sign a deal with Kojima, then they are doing it, no matter if Sony is signing something with him or not. It is not because we don’t see something, that it is not happening. Corporations like to keep these things close to their chest for a surprise.

He also said that Sony likely doesn’t want to work with him again after Death Stranding, it probably not being a big success, unless it was Metal Gear or something. But no more weird shit is what he said.

Maybe Norman was smoking some weird shit, lol.

Well if mind share was that important, Death Stranding would have been a big success.
