I doubt they’ll use the original Odyssey Engine, it will be the usual UE4. Even if they simply copy and past the game on Unreal, it’s still a big task, it’s a wildly different engine from the old Odyssey by Bioware.
UE6 might be out by the time they finish.
An Xbox Gundam lol. I like this more than the kinda silly looking Xbox anime girl they did for last year’s TGS.
Xbox showcase being at 5am EST for TGS is great because by the time I get up, I can easily see all the announcements and whatnot. Yay!!!
The Aspyr remake for Star Wars would have to be bad which I don’t see happening. I’m hoping and expecting it to be great. Xbox have a ton of WRPG’s but if KOTORR is high quality and highly polished, it’s going to do way better than each individual Xbox WRPG. It’s freaking Star Wars. Unless Star Wars becomes crap over the next two years, KOTTRR is going to be massive. And I for one, can’t wait.
In fact, im hyped for a shit ton of games and all I care about is that they end up being great or better for me. If those games accomplish that, I will be a very happy gamer!!!
My one response to this is that I don’t watch Netflix hoping that they can get the next Pixar movie. I don’t watch Disney Plus hoping for Game of Thrones. Each platform offers its own strengths and begging for your platform to just copy what someone else is doing isn’t “constructive criticism”. It’s shouting into the void and a waste of time. Every platform has its strengths and weaknesses and we are lucky that all three consoles offer a ton of strengths right now.
I will argue that Xbox has the clear most variety out of the big 3. Sony has one clear strength while Xbox is poised to have multiple. Just because Xbox is currently lacking “Marvel games” doesn’t mean Xbox is somehow failing.
That’s a reach, it’s still a remake of an old game from an almost unknown developer. I’m mad for the timed shit, but we shouldn’t oversell it like it’s bigger than Starfield, lmao.
This is a ridiculous take that borders on bad faith. a remake of a 17 year old game from an unproven developer vs. something like Starfield is going to do “way better” than it? Come on man, I’m hovering o the silence for a week button here.
I fail to see the comparison you are trying to make here. I dont buy a PS5 for Halo in the same way I dont buy an xbox for god of war. Both exclusive content to those platforms and has nothing to do with the other content those services can buy up tho.
Netflix and Disney and HBO pay for exclusive rights to a ton of third party content. I’m not going to beg them to buy the Office, I’ll go where the Office is.
Jesse I think its extreme to dismiss the comment as bad faith. We dont know the scope of the remake and its Star Wars one of the most popular IP’s of all time I dont think its that much of a reach to say it will outsell some of the xbox wrpg lineup. Assuming Aspyr does fine on the remake and it reviews well it will do crazy numbers just how FF7R did for being a 40 hour extended remake of a 20 year old game.
Idk if it will sell more than Starfield but its probably doing more than Avowed or Fable imo and thats not a dig at either its just the power of the license if the game isnt an outright disaster.
I don’t think that a single Star Wars game came close to the number of unities that Skyrim sold. A big IP won’t do much if your game is not good, Marvel’s Avengers is a good exemple of this.
I’m not saying that KOTOR is going to be bad, but thinking that an untested studio like Aspyr could easily make a game better than Bethesda’s ones is a bad take.
If there wasn’t a history of such hyperbolic statements I might agree, but there is so I do not.
I think we’d all agree that if an Xbox Game Studios team or a Bethesda one wanted to work on a licensed IP and the deal made sense that Xbox would be behind it 100%. I just don’t think they need to do one as a reaction to Sony.
By that token you can play Marvel’s Avengers or Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy on Xbox.
They have many deals going right now with Xbox Global Publishing that we haven’t heard about yet. I’m not going to worry about it personally and it has been overwhelming any other discussion since the Playstation showcase.
It’s not completely an unproven developer. A lot of the team is ex-BioWare developers who worked on the original game. They have a good amount of veterans on the team. It’s why im excited. It’s not all newbies developing the game.
I’m sorry, but I wholeheartedly agree with @Doncabesa, especially being a Mac user for 20+ years and dealing with Aspyr’s rather shit ports. So when I saw the Aspyr name next to the announcement, any excitement quickly deflated to the reality I’ve existed in for years. It’s not that Aspyr’s unproven per se, it’s that they’ve proven for decades that even porting has been a weakness… but they’ll suddenly be great because it’s a remake… like you what mate?
Also, this!
Finally I’ll say this. For years, Xbox had a reputation during the Mattrick days of forcing devs to push out content amongst their core IP. Then Phil came along and, by all accounts, turned XGS around completely around late 2014 (after Mojang purchase) and encouraged/enabled creative freedom amongst the devs they owned and would come to own. By all accounts, this has been a net positive amongst staff and fans. So now we have some gamers and Xbox “fans” that want Xbox to force one of its devs to make a superhero game because Sony is? Those two concepts are contradictory, and more importantly, for every Spider-Man, there are dozens of Avengers-like games that tank AND rip a fantastic developer off of what they do best, or want to do. It’s clear, given the success of a large portion of XGS’ properties, that they don’t need to do so either.
I didn’t say Aspyr is great. I said im confident in the game being great. They do have ex-BioWare developers on the team who developed the original game. Also, do you think Sony is paying for this game to be a timed exclusive and publishing it but yet, release it as a bad game? Come on. No way Sony is going to have a bad game released under their watch that’s using Disney/Marvel/LucasFilm licensed properties. I just don’t see that happening.
RDX now saying that Microsoft needs to get a super hero exclusive I’m sure all the talk right now has them paying attention even freaking Nintendo got a superhero exclusive before Xbox some ideas I have
-
Deadpool by ID
-
Punisher by the coalition
-
How about the incredible hulk game since you know Xbox is synonymous with the color green
I understand, but if we’re talking about genre variety for 1st party/exclusives then you cannot cover more genres than Xbox is right now without being somehow even bigger. How is Sony going to get people who want a relaxing racer if they don’t have a competitor for Forza, etc.? How can you NOT buy an Xbox if you want Western RPG’s?!?!? It goes on and on.
