I do think that outside of halo KOTOR was the most important og Xbox game. It’s my second favorite rpg series behind maas effect and I’m a bit sad depending on the length of the exclusivity. If it’s 3-6 months I’m not too worried. But if it’s 1-2 years than I’ll be pretty upset. I can’t believe Microsoft let that one slip. Hopefully they make it up by paying for it to launch into gamepass.
Overall I would say it’s a solid show. I love wolverine and god of war looked good. Insomniac is really the backbone of Sony right now. Once I don’t need to play Halo infinite every single day I’ll look into buying a Ps5. Probably a year from now. If there’s whispers of a slim I’ll wait because I don’t want that ugly console on my desk.
Doesn’t surprise me that Microsoft lost the bidding war for Kotor if that’s true.
Has Microsoft paid for timed exclusivity without it coming to game pass day 1 (since game pass became more of a thing)?
If Sony is interested and willing to pay up big money for exclusivity, Microsoft would need to at least match exclusivity + game pass on top. That could easily be a significant investment that just wouldn’t recoup the cost.
It’s not like outriders or mlb where they just pay for game pass on their own platform. They would have to foot both. And I imagine a star wars IP costs much more than STALKER or Warhammer
To be honest, nothing in that show really wowed me. My issue with KOTOR is it’s one of my favorite rpgs ever made and was hyped for a possible remake on Xbox. I am not on the doom and gloom, nonsense some others are on but that just annoyed me. It is what it is…
How does a trillion dollar company lost a bidding war? i don’t think it entirely on money cause if it only the money than surely MS would outbid anyone. Sony might have more of a relationship with Lucasfilm that why they got the deal.
Yeah I can see that, and it’s totally fine to be disappointed on that front; for the record, I’m right there with you on the annoyance front, I too grew up with KOTOR. I guess Disney has just proven that they don’t care about their games being accessible to the wider gaming audience, and if I have to wait a year to avoid supporting that kind of system, so be it.
Sony has no more a relationship with Lucasfilm than Microsoft… Maybe even less so. C’mon. Indiana Jones at Machine Games and Tim Schafer is still very connected to Lucasarts / Skywalker Sounds.
They can lose a bidding war bc it’s still a business. They’re not going to drop $300M on KOTOR just because “they can” to outbid Sony.
Idk and we probably will never know. My point is just because Microsoft has a shit ton of money doesn’t mean they can spend it infinitely on third party deals. Especially ones Sony is bidding for too and were clearly dead set on it.
Let’s say exclusivity for KOTOR was $100M paid by Sony. Microsoft would need to pay more than that and include it in game pass which may be like $180M total. That’s a ridiculous amount. That’s +18M GP subs not including other revenue sources to recoup the cost during the exclusivity window.
Obviously it probably didn’t cost as much, but the general idea stands
