At the end of the day, it’s going to require a ton of money and work to correct this problem, and I hope that they manage to make it work. If they don’t, then I’ll just have to play those games somewhere else. It’s a shame, but there’s no reason for me to expect to be able to play everything I’m interested in on just one platform.

To manufacture an Xbox right now is to produce a guaranteed instant sale. Don’t trust unconfirmed reported numbers without some critical thinking. Here is where I think the narrative started; early Twitter said take the reported PS5 sales and subtract 1 million and you will have the Xbox numbers. People have been using that as their formula to guess the numbers ever since.

Look it really is as simple as this. Both consoles are sold out. Of course they are tied. Why would Xbox not make as many consoles as PlayStation? … it makes no sense.

Not every Xbox Series S sells out though as a lot of people just don’t want that console. The almost 8m is from Sony. The 9m is unconfirmed by Sony but by mid-July, it will be as of June 30th.

It’s not a narrative. Just the truth. PS5 will always outsell Series X/S. Plus for Sony, both their consoles are exactly the same except for the disc drive where as Series X and S have tech differences inside the console which im sure impacts manufacturing. Then add in Microsoft using Series X for their server blades which is probably another 1m or so and there you go.

PS5 sells out their disc and digital editions. Xbox sells out Series X but Series S not as much. Plus, im pretty sure Sony started manufacturing months before Microsoft did since they waited for full RDNA 2.

Doubt it, as Phil is on record saying even if they sell more they are never going to disclose console numbers as that is not going to be a metric they will ever follow.

Console sales make a lot of sense for traditional media, but a services focused company has to tear themselves away from it. It has to be a very different kind of thinking.

Which to me is a mistake because unless game streaming takes off or PC surpasses console sales and subscribers for Game Pass which is mostly Xbox One and then Xbox Series, they should disclose console sales and they do matter most because the console is going to be what leads people into those subscription services. Plus, once Gold is gone which is just a matter of time, the only service will be Game Pass and the best way of getting users into it is via a console. If there was no Series X for example, we wouldn’t be having this conversation because majority of gamers want an actual console and hardware including myself.

Those Trails games ports are also very far away. It’s very possible that Xbox will be in an even better position by 2023 and will be very hard to ignore…

I’m kinda hoping MS takes those trailer messages personally and throws money at them. Again if money got them to port to Stadia then it’ll for sure work for Xbox. Trails is one of my favorite, if not my #1 favorite, JRPG series, so yeah I’m gonna remain hopeful. The Japanese games situation seems to be constantly improving.

So you honestly think that Microsoft is making fewer Xbox’s because they are worried they won’t sell? Look if you think that in the future then fine, but if we are talking about right now and deep into next year then I think you need to reevaluate your opinion. Microsoft is not intentionally making fewer Xbox’s because they are worried they won’t sell. Please everyone think a little bit about this for a second. They would not be doing that when every console manufactured is a guaranteed sale.

I didn’t say that anywhere in my post lol. I’m just going to drop the conversation because I’m not that interested in console sales.

PS is the market lead by far vs Xbox and is currently producing more consoles with way more demand worldwide.

There’s no conspiracy to make the PS5 numbers look better or whatever, it’s just common sense.

With deving a game for Xbox now including a PC version + cloud that could access 100’s of million devices it’s going to make less financial sense to skip the Xbox platform. MS is trying to make it hard to skip Xbox by giving devs more cash (on PC) back, making 1 version work as 3 and just Xbox in general not doing crappy things like forcing devs pay for crossplay. It’s going to be sooner rather than later when the higher ups get grilled, they will have to put it on Xbox platforms because if investors see them skipping that many customers they will ask questions.

The console driving people into the services is important and is why console sales will continue to matter. That is more strategy though, whether or not the console sales are disclosed doesn’t really impact anything in that regard though, and the impact of console sales should be evident in increased subscription numbers.

Those Trails games ports are also very far away.

For no reason because they are using the fan translations as base which makes it even more absurd to delay the Most recent game to 2023. They have me hostage due to localizing 2 PSP era games.

I hope you’re right! Like I said earlier, I don’t think I’m entitled to have every game I’m interested in on one platform, it would make my life a lot easier.

Well, we might want to temper our expectations on that if what Jeff said is true. Sounds incredibly early. Quoting what I posted in the studios thread too.

Later on in the video Jeff says that he doesn’t think it’s going to be an existing IP, but something new. Thinks there’s not a super solid plan in place for a the game,it’s early. He says MS is showing up for Kojima, and not necessarily because the pitch is something they’re really excited about. They are excited about cloud and that’s why they are bringing in Kim Swift.

Says that if you were to go ask Phil about this game he’d say "well, we’ll see. " Says that to him this suggests going in and specifically nailing down an IP is not in the cards and what they’re looking at right now.

Kinda sounds like it could be quite a while before we hear anything official regarding this deal.

Sounds like they want him because of cloud, that’s what they are most excited about now. To be honest it’s fine with me, so much stuff is coming our way, let them take their time with announcing this, it’s fine.

Main reason is because it shows confidence in your product regardless of how it’s doing compared to the competition. If Nintendo can disclose the Wii U sales number which were abysmal, no reason for Microsoft not to.

Besides, the metrics they use aren’t exactly accurate in regards to Series X/S. They have 22m or so Game Pass subscribers but obviously, the vast majority of that is on Xbox One. With Cloud Streaming going on Xbox One, that in turn means that those consumers have less reason to buy and invest into a Series X/S which in turn means lesser console sales which in turn from that means less third party support in the long term and even more so from Japanese publishers. In the ultimate long term, it also would mean the end of consoles because if your consumer base is on everything but a console, there’s simply not much reason to have it be available.

For me personally, I only play games on a console. I’m not streaming and not playing on mobile and PC is of no interest to me either so if/when the day comes, there’s no console be it from Microsoft or Sony, they are done for me. So for me personally, I want Series X/S to sell a shit ton because it’s better for me in the long term. I know people will say that Microsoft will always have a console but that I don’t believe that for one simple reason, if you’re allowing your current generation games to be played on previous generation hardware even if it is only via game streaming, that increases the chances of consumers not buying or investing into your new hardware.

Like for example, if Xbox Series 2 or whatever the next consoles are called only end up selling Wii U like numbers because everyone stayed with Series X/S or even Xbox One or PC or Game Streaming, they would be pretty much done with hardware after that because if it doesn’t sell, why have it?

In order for something to be successful, you have to sell people on it in order to buy into it all. If you don’t, they won’t and if you allow too many options to where consumers never have to upgrade, you’re basically killing off your own hardware in the future because you’re getting everyone used to not upgrading.

But again, I don’t care about the Xbox/PS5 sales numbers. I care about those numbers for me because the better they sell, they far greater the chance that consoles will always exist because the moment they don’t is the moment I quit gaming and if only one of the two decide to do that, that company would then be dead to me because it’s quite simply not how I want to play games.
