XboxEra Community Hangout |OT2| Cracking down on shitposting

Yeah this Kotaku situation is exactly why people complain about gaming “journalism” & Xbox in particular. It’s a combination of amateur behaviour (rushing to write a clickbait article based solely on a tweet) & obvious bias (did they check their sources before reporting on The Last of Us part 2’s delays?).

In my opinion, journalism has become a pathetic spectacle overall in western society (which I blame on social media & 24 hour news channels) but gaming journalists are a special kind of terrible. I honestly don’t read any of them anymore. Used to frequently visit sites like Eurogamer & IGN. Used to buy Edge magazine. Dropped them all completely at this point. Just get my news & updates directly from the source these days.

When journalism becomes news of popular opinion - it’s time to drop it.

nah this just bad journalism the person saw big news so they quickly wrote that article to publish it faster for clicks

Rant follows- (I am OK if someone flags this.)

Too many anti Xbox clickbait opinion pieces. Notice how they did not even apologize to 343. Just said “we got got” and moved on like Xbox doesn’t matter.

Xbox fans are vocal with Xbox and give active feedback. The good part is Xbox listens as well.

Wonder when the fans will realize that this BS going on in the media for 8 years needs to be corrected as well. Just being Nintendo centric and Playstation centric and giving shit-opinion pieces on Xbox is so much in bad taste.

I’m curious to know what the Kotaku article actually said

I hope you are all cool adults like Microsoft today and realize your April fool jokes aren’t funny enough and STOP IT.

i can see why Microsoft employees are not so thrilled about this.

It’s a great dilemma to be honest.

One can see this as empowerment of troops who protect us from outside threat

One can see this as empowerment of war

I for once believe, non lethal technology is better then a straight forward weapon.

Hololens in itself is just a tool and its primary purpose isn’t about killing. It will depend on how one use it. But a weapon like a gun could only be used to kill as its primary purpose.

Hololens is only a tool, correct. But Microsoft ist not only selling the headsets but they will help develop and support better murder software. This is not ethical. Let the military develop the killing stuff themselves, thats their job not Microsofts.

Great article about DL2

There is no murder software. Microsoft is not building any kind of software or AI which will kill someone.

As a primary utility, it’s simply used as visor and detection tool.

Anyways, as i already mentioned - there is a great dilemma here.

Someone will justify it as a protection and someone else as being aggresive.

Of course its a tool for better killing :woman_shrugging: Or do you think the military invests billions of dollars to make them less effective?

If Microsoft want to justify it is for protection they for sure have it in a contract that it can only be used inside the borders of the USA. For sure.

Btw people know about the Hololens piece only because it appeared in the news.

The number of companies contributing to the US Army is quite large.

Edit - In the US most of the Universities have Darpa funding which is the Army too. Most of these students would have studied or have been associated with some Prof having a Darpa funding. So, protesting now seems slightly hypocritical.

Well, neither you nor me can say what’s written in contract there.

I am neither denying it nor assuming it is the case.

I am trying to focus on what’s the primary purpose of the device. And That’s not killing.

It is obvious that we are on different page here. And arguing won’t change anyone’s opinion

It’s so true. My brother, was telling me on the last Giant Bombcast, a channel known for giving smaller games a lot of focus, they didn’t mention a thing about the ID@Xbox show, or a single game shown on it

Slap a Nintendo, or Sony badge on that show and they would have probably spent 45 minutes discussing everything in it, in detail

April 1st, it’s going to be a long day isn’t it?

It’s a good time to get some extra sleep. I’m ignoring things that sound too good to be true today, and I hope Phil doesn’t show off another shelf until tomorrow.

Agree. But…

I think the Xbox is to blame for that too. this ID@Xbox Showcase, I found it super boring to watch. they did not have much effort to publicize this event. almost 4 hours for Indie games is a lot. it should be a maximum of 1 hour or 45 minutes.

they need to have their Direct/State as fast as possible.
