Writer and game director left Bend?

These are probably Jasons sources.

Really sad for Sony, and it doesn’t make me want to pick a PS5 anytime soon. We could already their big focus on third person AAA cinematic games, but I had hopes there would be more games like Dreams. It seems Sony is not interested in creativity anymore.

Sony have a small but incredibly talented studio base…

It makes zero sense to limit Bend to basically a support studio for Druckmann and Naughty Dog.

A similar situation would be Microsoft cancelling Avowed and forcing Obsidian to Bethesda support.

In the meanwhile xbox approved a third state of Decay…

It doesn’t when you are just thinking in pure $ terms with the fact that Naughty Dog’s games sell a fuck ton but those games require a lot of pure man hours to make. A similar thing happened with Raven and COD.

When they want those types of games, they just money hat full, or timed exclusivity deals for 3rd party titles, like a Bugsnacks, or Fall Guys, etc.

Though Gamepass’ rapidly growing allure for smaller devs has to be putting that model in some jeopardy now

I hope Microsoft continues their support for smaller first-party games. I’ve played Wasteland 3, Gears Tactics, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Bleeding Edge, all on Game Pass. A subscription service like this is a thriving ecosystem for such kinds of games.

Game Pass will ensure that this will continue to be the case as long as the service exists because Xbox cannot fill up a schedule with just AAA games, plus it is about catering to different audiences.

What Bend is working on currently is unknown.

Days gone was a commercial success by all accounts… which is tough to do with a new IP.

Outright cancelling just seems weird.

/ Flight simulator / Gears Tactics / Ori / Bleeding Edge - the list goes on and on.

This just validates the criticism that Sony’s output is repetitive and that it’s not by chance, it’s by design.

Just proves that if you dont get a high 80’s or 90’s score at Sony you are dead.

I completely agree and old Sony would have greenlighted the sequel. However, this Sony is really interested in absolute blockbusters on the level of Uncharted or God of War, so if the game is not capable of reaching it you can forget about it.

I said the exact same thing lol

How is that a controversial story? It’s been in front of ours eyes since 2013 lol

Like, I get the initial “holy crap, Schreier is making a critical story about Sony” sentiment. What I read though was nothing new, or something I feel will be consequential

And frankly, it was kid of a boring read

I think Sony’s strategy here is very easy to see, they are playing it very safe.

Releasing more games under studio with both critical and commercial success like SSM and ND, they are using these studio’ reputation to sell the game.

So, making these studios have 2 teams and other studios to support make their games faster. It’s better for Sony if ND releases 3 games instead of 1 and 1 from Bend.

Also, remasters are going to be a safe bet for them as they don’t have BC for a lot of games anyway.

I mean, how did people not at the VERY least see this when Housemarque, a studio that has ONLY made arcade twin stick shooters made a third person over the shoulder narrative driven shooter lol. Like come on

I’ve been saying Housemarque are being made to “audition” for months

This is…wow…I would have never expected to be this bad. So now, Sony doesn’t even trust its own studios ? Devs have to prove they are worthy to work on new franchises ? What kind of management is this ? That’s baffling.

It’s really sad to see and kind of a warning sign of what to expect. Not for the players, players will always be there, but for the devs who want to work for Sony.

I think that Jim Ryan knows exactly what’s happening and instigate this mindset in the company and that sucks.

Creativity must be at the forefront of developpement, always. And creativity needs trust. MS learned that lesson the hard way…

I don’t want Sony to go there…Frankly, it sucks for everyone, because somehow, I still think that devs are at their best when there is a healthy competition between studios from different platforms.

Yeh, but people have been perfectly complicit with it because of the streak of highly rated games.

Sony need to be careful or they could have a Halo, Gears, Forza situation in their hands in the future.
