Silent protagonist is actually the way to go in an RPG, if you’re making your own character. It allows for deeper role playing… which is nice… in a role playing game. We have dialogue written on the screen & we get to read it & hear our unique character’s voice in our own heads.

Voiced protagonist can work as well but it does remove something for the player who’s actually looking to role play. This is why Bethesda fans universally disliked Fallout 4’s approach.

Leave Bethesda alone! With Bioware I agree, they are a shadow of their former selves. Mass Effect 1-2 and Dragon Age: Origins were fantastic, after that it’s a steady decline.

Are you kidding? Fallout 4 had a lot of technical issues and Skyrim to this day still isn’t patched for PS3. You leave a certain door on a cabin open and it crashes your game to where you can’t even play it. Plus, all of their games have this old PC look to it and it’s like, come on, create a new game engine instead of trying to put duct tape over the current engine. But whatever. looking forward to seeing Starfield and when it launches, im expecting technical issues galore.

Rumor: Quake reboot In the works according to Tyler McVickers

I couldnt remember how it worked. I never used it.

Yea but multiple people have said that isn’t the case.

I’m pretty certain that Starfield is either on a new engine or a newer build of the old one which is why Starfield had a longer dev cycle than Fallout 4. Bethesda games have bugs for sure, can’t deny that but i also think what they do is a little more ambitious compared to some devs making rpgs.

Yeah, Bethesda games are special.

Even if there’s a character creation, all the dialogue choices are programmed into the game so why not have a male/female voice and there you go. If an AA game like Outriders can do it, why can’t these top tier AAA titles?

Hearing our unique character’s voice in our own heads? What? That’s our voice. lol. A deep RPG that has a silent protagonist is a no go for me. No interaction. No personality. Never says a word but somehow everyone understands what he/she says just because you clicked on a dialogue choice that the CPU AI can somehow know despite your character never saying a word.

To each their own but any game (especially an RPG) that has a silent protagonist is a negative for me personally and I lose interest very quickly.

Bethesda is fine but I wish they would create a new game engine from the ground up. Trying to update a 15 year old engine, UGH. Come on man.

New Engine? Really? If so, awesome. Hoping that’s true.

I would love a Quake reboot !

I can’t remember 100 percent, but i thought they said something along those lines. Someone correct me if im wrong.

It is not a new engine but they claim to have made major updates to it.

Oh…major updates. Yay. Only heard that with Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. SMH. Oh well. Whatever it is it is. Thankfully, I have way more interest and confidence in Arkane, Id Software, Machine Games and Tango Gameworks than I do Bethesda Game Studios.

MP Game right ?

For me, the worst games that Bethesda & BioWare have made are their newest games. Fallout 76 & Anthem (which both happen to be online multi-player titles but let’s not get into that :grinning:).

Morrowind, Oblivion & Skyrim are 3 of the absolute best open world WRPGs ever made. The Elder Scrolls is a series that’s up there with Mario, Zelda, Halo & GTA. Each new entry is a generation defining experience beloved by millions of people all over the world. I’m not as big into Fallout but I don’t think that matters. It’s Fallout. We all know how big it is & Bethesda brought it back in a big way.

Starfield is going to be huge. Like, properly massive. Then there’s the little matter of the first Elder Scrolls title in about 15 years by that point. They’re under MS now, which will allow them complete freedom to make it the biggest & best one yet. They’re coming back & they probably want their crown back.

As for BioWare? No studio that had as good a run as Baldur’s Gate - Knights of the Old Republic - Jade Empire - Mass Effect - Dragon Age, gets anything but praise from me. Sure, a lot of the old guard have left but what if the next generation love what BioWare stand for & want to do it better than ever? Let’s wait & see Dragon Age 4 before we write them off.

CDPR actually have more pressure on them at this time. They built up to The Witcher 3 & damn near knocked it out of the park with that game but then, at the moment it seemed like they were going to take the number 1 spot, sadly swung & missed completely with Cyberpunk. Bad mistakes were made with that one, very bad mistakes & they really need to learn from them. Hopefully they do & come back stronger for it.

I can’t imagine ID software going full multiplayer after their last 2 fantastic doom games. Didn’t they have external studios do the MP for both doom and eternal?

as far i know QUACK Main core is MP so they will likely focus on MP only.

For ID we don’t know anything about them and how many teams they have.

Oh god. Here comes the engine talk…

@peter42O stop. Please stop. You have no clue what a game engine even is, how it works or why devs like Bethesda use the engine they use.

Edit: & the thing about hearing your own unique character’s voice in your head is called using your imagination. It’s something that people do when role playing. It’s one of the best things about RPGs.

Lol, it’s minor miracle they even got the game to run as well as it did on that system.

I don’t really care about whatever argument is being made here, but I’ll gladly take anything BGS does over CDPR and/or the Witcher 3. Loved the game, but it definitely wasn’t without its faults. Of course, I do have three Elder Scrolls games in my top ten favorite games of all time, so I may be a bit biased. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
