The cow can only be milked for so long. There can only be a certain number of costly mega flops before enough people give up on the idea of trying to make all of the money & go back to just making some of the money.
It could take a few studios shutting down & a lot of lost jobs, but the crash will inevitably come.
Agreed. I go by the publisher so for example, I have Gears Tactics for Xbox Series X since it was published by Microsoft. Miles Morales was obviously published by Sony so for me right now, it’s tied at one in regards to exclusives. I have Ratchet in June and Halo Infinite in November so unless other exclusives make it this year from Sony/Microsoft, I will be going into 2022 tied at two.
It seems a shallow threat, when their deals are in the millions scale, MS deals with the billions scale. XD
I only fear for greedy japan publishers which are quick to take any Sony check.

Sony double tripling down on the exclusives then.
I wonder how many of them will be exclusively exclusive, instead of just the “will eventually come to other platforms at some point” kind of exclusive.
That’s without counting on MS making more acquisitions too and Game Pass deals, things won’t be easy for Sony this generation.

Hit the nail on the head for me. I can’t see their internal studios producing more games this gen when games are taking longer to make and not less. I suppose publishing could pick up the slack and they have been announcing partnerships lately, but I feel what Jim means is a mixture of both as well as timed exclusivity.
