Good

Dont want to see these teams die on their first projects like the one with the former Halo devs.

Dropping this news on the day of Returnal footage. And interesting that Sony is going back to exclusive multiplayer games.

Playstation Cloud exclusive - powered by Microsoft Azure.

This is awesome news. I want more stuff to play on my PlayStation. Haven’t had a reason to turn on PS5 in awhile. Obviously this is years away but I don’t want to turn on my PS5 two times a year to play games.

That said, why can Sony make this type of announcement and it only receives praise but if MS would announce a partnership with Avalanche and even shows a cgi trailer with a title the response will be that game is years away, they didn’t really show anything? It gets so old.

I wonder if Sony will own the IP for these studios or are they one offs like Death Stranding. I do find the strategy very interesting

So that’s how they’re trying to keep up with MS announcements huh?

Does the “Not first party so completely worthless” logic some have applied elsewhere also apply here?

Nope because Sony is nurturing those studios to buy them so they are almost first party. /s

Who cares if a game is from an internal studio or is a publishing deal? Only Two exclusives from Sony in the first year will actually be from an internal studio unless Horizon does actually make it. The rest are publishing deals. If good games are being added to the library what does it matter if they own the studio or not.

Am I the only one see that sony is investing alot into multiplayer ips(which will mostly likely have live service elements)? Like alot of sony job listings are for multiplayer games(london studios, sucker punch, ND, that new studio just announced) and ND was hiring someone for micro-transactions a few weeks back. Maybe they realize that EA and activision make almost as much money as them with just reskins of the same game every year(fifa,COD). Maybe sony wants some of that money or maybe I am just looking too deep into things.

No you are not the only one and something I predicted Sony would expand into because atm they basically have no live service game.

Sony is not stupid and even though it can be a taboo word in certain parts, they are extremely popular and a major revenue generator. It is literally money on the table and a big source of recurrent revenue.

Yeah, live service games can make a ton of revenue. No wonder, many are interested in doing them.

It is indeed no coincidence.

Also, it is a question about how Sony can increase its revenue. I am of the belief that the PS5 will not outsell the PS4 and might in fact sell quite a bit less - don’t be too fooled about the records the PS5 is making right now, the competition is a lot more fierce this time and that will impact sales unless the console market also grows. It is therefore how Sony can keep increasing revenues and I think it falls to 3 areas:

  1. Sell more PS+ subscriptions and you can see this with new games being offered and the video pass thing.
  2. Earning more royalties and money from game sales with the price increase.
  3. Making their own live service games and earn more money from players who already have purchased your game.

Oh look, yet another new multi-player game which is probably going to be always online, live service GaaS garbage!

When will this end

There is also the current pandemic that has certainly impacted PS5 sales from their initial projections.

Yeah there is a high chance they will miss them, but I am talking years into future when the generation has come to an end we will probably find the PS5 hasn’t quite sold as well as the PS4.
