XboxEra Community Hangout |OT2| Cracking down on shitposting

Enough space between all them sure

Some users make it sound like that Microsoft will sit on a finished game for a year because it’s too similar to another title. That won’t happen.

If avowed and starfield finished development on the same day they would release 2-4 months apart.

Commercial suicide would be holding those games hostage for a year cause you released and rpg in one quarter already lol.

I heard people talking about halo and starfield can’t come out in the same year. Why? Last year in one year during a pandemic Sony who has less studios put out dreams, ghosts, past of us 2, demon souls, and Spider-Man in one year. Xbox should be able to do the same and I feel like they will

It’s not from everyone it’s only one guy saying this it’s @Hindle he always down plays the XGS for no reason he actually think Indian Jones is coming out in 2027 LMAOOOO

Ain’t downplaying shit. Adding realism to what are wild expectations is common sense in this day and age.

The games will come, but expect delays

Starfield could hit this year, me personally I think they’ll delay to 2022 just to add more polish and refinement. Bethesdas reputation got hit last gen, due to years of bugs and glitches

Are we expecting gamepass news today?

The simple fact is that you don’t know how much covid has hit game development. All you can do is look at the actual evidence, like how many games have been given long delays & listen to the words of people in the know (like Phil Spencer) when they confirm that it’s a real struggle.

Hell, look at this shiny new generation of consoles, which released almost 6 months ago & which the manufacturers are still seriously struggling to restock. Marvel at the one or two big new games released in the launch period. Seriously, when has a new generation of consoles ever released with such a sparse lineup of new titles to sell them? What happened there, do you think?

& I wouldn’t take Machine’s efficiency in creating an FPS franchise, where each game has the same style in the same universe, as absolute proof that they will create a new game in a new franchise with a new style equally as quick. That’s not how these things work, even in the best circumstances, without the disruption of covid.

Indiana Jones could easily throw up several new issues during development that Machine have never had to deal with before & which could easily add considerable time to development. It’s wrong to just assume “they do this thing quickly & so they will obviously do this other thing quickly as well” & I certainly wouldn’t bet on that.

Look, I’m not saying that you guys are definitely wrong, nor am I saying you’re definitely right. None of us know anything for certain. We’re all just throwing guesses around. All I’m saying to some of you is don’t be so sure about your guesses & don’t rush to dismiss someone else’s. We don’t know & we’ll all have to wait & see.

A year is a very long time. Within the last five months we’ve seen CyberPunk and The Medium. Is there anybody here who would say releasing a horror game or futuristic RPG today would be a bad idea because The Medium and CyberPunk came out a few months ago??

Considering that Avowed appears to be some kind of first person dark fantasy game akin to Skyrim, while Starfield is a space adventure, and Fable will be a comic fairytale story of sorts, it doesn’t make any sense to me that releasing one would in anyway impact releasing another within six months.

This is even more irrelevant when you consider that you will not have to pay for them! They’re not competing for the same money, it is not mutually exclusive for people on Gamepass, just have one and finish it, then play the next. Or with quick resume, chop between them.

Everyone is guessing, and no one knows anything. I take into consideration many factors, and try and understand game dev, and how covid is affecting everything. Hence why I put the dates I do

Must be getting a new batch of Game Pass today I think?

I think the idea is that a publisher, when planning the release of their own first party titles, would naturally want to leave space for each game to “breathe” & if they had two or more titles of the same (or a similar) genre, they would definitely want to leave more space between releases.

That would seem like the logical thing to do. Like for example, don’t release a new Doom & then a new Halo 2 weeks later. They’re the same genre, FPS, you could split the audience & each game could cannibalize the other’s sales. That line of thinking.

That’s probably how the people in charge used to view these things. What’s interesting is to consider how Game Pass could’ve changed that thinking.

I’m of the opinion that you still don’t release games of the same genre too close together. I don’t see an issue releasing two big hitters, one an FPS like Halo & the other an ARPG(?) like Starfield within a few weeks of each other. But again, we’ll see how things shake out.

When is Cuphead Delicious Last Course (DLC
I see what you did there!) coming out? I’m holding out hope that as part of the release, they’ve rethought their stance on gate keeping certain levels behind difficulty levels.

They have even said that they will be building up so they can fully develop two independent projects simultaneously going forward

Yes, that would be a welcome update.

Would make the game more friendly for people who want to enjoy the cool animation and music, but don’t have the time / reflexes. I love it when games reward you for playing and getting better on the hardest difficulty but don’t make it impossible for you to enjoy if you can’t.

It’s a real pity for Xbox that MS relented the exclusivity (we know for a fact they did, it wasn’t studio mdhr like moon studio asked MS to port Ori to Swich), it would have been a prestige title in the line-up.

At the same time, it’s a signal to other developers that Xbox is a great partner to work with, can be flexible, etc. Plus I doubt they relented, I’m sure the original contract included the option. As an indie studio, MDHR probably wanted a backup if things didn’t go well. By not trying to strong arm them into something, Xbox is more likely to get future games from the studio and not get skipped. Also if MDHR did ever want financial security from being purchased, having seen that Xbox allows freedom means they might be more likely to agree to a deal.
