It’s vague so that it can be anything:

• acquisitions (studios with big IPs)
• just IPs (but I guess that would mean the IP is dormant and that the seller doesn’t intend to re-use it or that the buyer is paying a load of money for it)
• just IPs but from movies

That’s what I understood from it.

I think that Japanese devs wouldn’t hand their IPs like this, they have too much history to just give it away.

But I could see “dead” IPs from EA and other western devs getting bought.

… you pay premium too and that’s fine). But for that, content and quality has to be there. I’m not in the camp that TLoU 2 and Ghost of Tsushima were perfect games, far from it. Some mechanics in these games are wearing thin imo. And Playstation won’t have the best looking games this time. Then you have Xbox which offers many games (some day one) for a small fee. I would be a kid today, I would have been over the moon with joy. All those games for one small fee every month ? And people still ask why there is so many people talking about Game Pass. This strategy, this one, should be praised, because this time, MS deserves it, not as some big corpo, but as a company that needed to improve on things and did what they had to do while changing the way we consume video games today. I mean, come on…

Personally, I went from the 360 being maybe my favourite console of all time, to dropping Xbox like a hot rock after that disastrous One launch. Bought a PS4 instead & that was me happy for a good couple of years.

The One S brought me back to Xbox. They were saying all the right things by that point & I thought the Master Chief Collection, Gears 4, ReCore, Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break & backwards compatibility were all just too good to miss out on. Upgraded to my One X as soon as it launched & I couldn’t be happier as a gamer these days.

Xbox deserved heavy criticism for how badly they were messing things up at the beginning of the last generation & they deserve praise for how much work they’ve put in since then to make things right. This generation is going to be very different. I’m certain of that.

I have a theory about the “connected worlds” IP with the cyclone emoji: someone is making a series of games for Xbox based on the Oz books. There are 14 Oz novels, so lots of rich source material there.

I am not an expert on the novels, but I think many of them do not feature Dorothy/Toto - so they are not sequels or prequels to the Wizard of Oz strictly speaking. This would fit my definition of a “connected world.”

There is, I think so. EA will never use it again anyway, might as well just gain some money from it.

It could’ve been a well intentioned joke that came out wrong. Or a reference to how good he thought Ryse was. He could’ve meant it in a hundred different ways. It’s one tweet from years ago, I wouldn’t waste any time thinking about it to be honest.

Cory Barlog seems like an ok dude. He’s made great games & has praised Xbox titles, most recently when he said that he thought Halo Infinite looked great. I think he’s above console warrior garbage.

Anyone else feeling news deprived this week? I think the last few weeks may have spoiled me and my expectations lol.

It may just be because I’m stuck with nothing to do at work this week though combined with out of control e3 hype making me hungry for news.

It’s the good ol’ E3 season. I get the same way when E3 is coming up. Checking news sites every day and resorting to checking the gaming leaks reddit just for some kind of information to satisfy my brain. If there’s one thing I always enjoyed about E3 it’s that it makes me feel like a kid counting down the days till Christmas

Unreal Engine is trying to make Greenscreens a like of the part with real-time photo realistic backdrops ALA The Mandalorian. No longer are actors in front of green screens, they are in front of giant 4k (possible 8k) screens that display the environments around them in real time.

They use this on the Mandalorian.

If you’ve seen this in action - amazing stuff from Unreal there. Real time 3D rendering to take into account camera angle while shooting.

As for the Xbox + Metal Gear thing, it’s ACG saying something he’s heard from somebody he trusts that’s gone 8 for 8 this year so far.

Most likely it’s just Kojima + Xbox Global Publishing.

lucasfilm only used unreal engine for season 1 of the mandalorian, they now use an inhouse realtime rendering engine
