XboxEra Community Hangout |OT14| New News? NEW THREAD

Just got a message from Xbox saying that if I don’t verify my age, early 2026 I won’t have access to social functions such as messaging and chat invites (everything else, like purchases etc would be fine).

I don’t have an issue verifying my age to someone like Microsoft (assuming they use my credit card, or my ancient email address with them rather than some dodgy third party that requires uploading photo ID and is easily hacked) but given I don’t use multiplayer on Xbox at all really I’m happy to leave it for now.

Maybe I’d verify for the next Forza Horizon if my old uni housemate wants a drive, but for now it’ll stop the bloody spam messages I sometimes get so it sounds nice and peaceful to me to be locked out of it lol :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m more into Chai tea than Black Jack Coffee.

Also, I never played Brutal Legend so I don’t know where to even start with a build.

Not a fan at all of all this verification stuff. Haven’t received this message yet but I’ll do it if I do receive one because I want to be able to be in parties.

But really, what is this all of a sudden?

Right!! Especially because it has an anime attached to the IP. Nintendo is so cheap!

It is tied to a new law in England, it is not something Microsoft is doing on their own.

 You have to try it for Ozzy! (Honest quick review: it’s 360 era beatem up fun; not a rhythm game tho). Funny to think that both Brutal Legend (Double Fine) and Hi Fi Rush (Tango) were first party. We missed the collab of the century. Oh and they had the guitar hero devs (though iirc the talent behind those games is gone yeah?). Could’ve had a musical chimera or at least some Fun DLC for HiFi Rush

Might as well. We’re stuck with a fool for another 3 years.

Good to know, they can’t fight it? Hopefully it won’t spread to more countries.

Yeah as @Doncabesa says it’s a UK thing, you’re unlikely to get it - our government doesn’t understand the internet and has decided to try and police it, not realising kids are just using VPNs and getting around stuff while us adults are stuck on some things we can’t do that for.

I’d have assumed for most services the fact I’m paying for them would be enough, but I’m expecting a few like Xbox or say Netflix or something silly to demand it - and I’m hoping payment cards will be enough because I’m refusing to upload ID documents as already a few providers have been hacked and with a scan of my driving licence a bad actor could easily commit identity fraud…

I understand the aim of the law, but honestly it feels a little like parents screaming “won’t someone think of the children!” rather than just keeping an eye on their kids using the internet or using internet blocking themselves.

Given most internet and mobile providers here have the ability to add content filters at their end, under the control of the parents who can add/remove sites, it feels a bit over the top…

I just remembered Hotel Barcelona exists and looks awesome. I remember seeing the debut sale and thinking, “Oh, I have time. I’ll remember to buy it.” and then life happened and I forgot. Probably for the best. I don’t think I’d properly have the time to play it (but it would be so good for game night with a friend; oh do I spend the $30?). I feel like the responsible thing is to at least wait u til I finish Digimon. I spent like $130 on that. Oh, but there is a 15% cash back deal up on PayPal… stop tempting me internet. I don’t even have money :sob::sob::sob: I’m still in college debt .

I wonder at what point will these publishers realize how oversatured the competitive MP market is and so many of those games are free too. They’d be best off focusing on the massively popular IP licensed game.

Well said. The man truly defined action gaming and started the get good which was applied by FROM software to become the Souls genre. It felt like he gave Xbox a backbone to be competitive. A true legend gone so early. Huge Salute.
