I’m really hoping Astro Bot does well enough for Sony sales wise, because the game industry is in such a state that even if you have the best game ever according to critics, if the game doesn’t sell enough, it will result in lay-offs. Hoping the best for the team, especially after what happened to Japan Studios.
Hopefully that means they get announced this month. The last two, that is. I don’t dare guess anymore about 7,lmao.
Tough sell. COD beta going on and Space marine in early access taking names. It might be doing OK, but I doubt it would be remembered the way the media is touting it. Games like this are best on Nintendo. I think Microsoft’s Game Pass idea is the better way. FTP and multiplayer games will generate revenue if they are successful but for SP games a service is better as it allows more people to engage and buy if they like as well as a steady revenue.
Their hypocrisy aside I hope it does win GOTY for the same reasons why I think Forza Horizon 5 deserved it.
It’s all about gameplay. Games don’t need an expansive narrative to be considered worthy of play. These classic genres don’t fit the “3rd person action/adventure” mold that seems to be the genre that is most highly hyped and anticipated every year.
Also, the fact that it’s 9 hours of concentrated fun with no filler would send a message to the industry. We gamers derive value based on other metrics besides time-to-beat. Astro is launching at $60 USD, and I think $40-50 USD price options should be considered for newer games that feature a bit less scope. With AAA budgets vying for the GOTY crown I think this game winning would be a good thing in demonstrating that it’s not always about that.
They will definitely be announcing atleast one if not all the FF at TGS who knows they might even announce Forspoken is coming to Game Pass. My thoughts are Xbox made a similar kind of deal they made with Sega which allowed all the Yakuza games to come to Game Pass. So maybe you’ll be getting all the Dragon Quest and FF announced as coming. That Phil Spencer shake with the SE guys seemed like it was a very big deal for SE, I could almost see them crying so I think they will show in a big way. Also, Tina said she and her team have something more
We’ve got a little more news coming for you, because my team’s work is never done 😎

Also please admire our show visual, which I maybe definitely probably had a little bit of fun with in our GFX package… 👀 https://t.co/A1Q8VWhZCH
I can rest easy if this happens.
Kidding
All jokes aside, man I hope it finally happens. I’m quite just over the whole "FF games coming…"shit, just do it, lol.
Oh I dig this!
I was playing today and a few times it wasn’t so bad. It seems you get one big area, if you get past that a checkpoint happens. However, I like to experiment, I like to toy around with the troopers, try stuff out, and if I have to do it all over again just because one trooper somehow managed to see me with his insane eagle vision…that is not fun.
I don’t think it will win GOTY maybe at the keighley’s which I doubt. I also don’t think it will garner the support the media is pushing. I think in todays’ world if it isn’t already an established franchise like Mario it would be a tough sell. For one I think teens are more drawn to edgy. The cuteness also seems like something for the Switch crowd.
Yeah if Destiny 3 really isn’t in production at the moment (which all the insiders, leakers and hackers all seem to agree it isn’t) then Bungie really are screwed.
Destiny 2 is a game of diminishing returns for them now - the narrative is too far along for newbies to join, so all they’re doing is bleeding players only some of whom come back for the next expansion.
A mobile game is likely to not do too well, and Marathon will need to be amazing to really change their fortunes around.
Otherwise, it has to be Destiny 3 - but if that’s not in development yet then it’s probably 4 to 7 years away, and Sony might not be that patient (and be wondering why the hell it wasn’t already in dev when they bought them)
I’d not be surprised if it did as the Game Awards are 90% jury votes aren’t they? And Sony are the media darlings, and they’re the ones pushing the game so hard…
Your comment about the narrative situation making it impossible for new players is spot-on and all at the fault of Bungie: when there are dozens of service games with in-game tutorials/activity finders for complex events/concepts and Bungie nuked a large portion of the story/content, they have only themselves to blame (leadership obviously, not the majority of staff).
Yep I had almost caught up when the expansion that Cayde died in came out (not a spoiler, you can’t even play that mission anymore I think) then stopped - and tried again a few years later (last year).
I couldn’t make head or tail of the new story (despite my partner keeping on it longer than me) and I eventually gave up as yep too much story was missing and they’d removed some of my favourite areas.
Even my partner took a break with their friendship group, and now none of them have gone back since as they’re too far behind.
However all of us would give a Destiny 3 a go as it would be a narrative reset (hopefully)
Anyone else notice that Pauls articles seem increasingly ChatGPT?
From NateDrake
“Square Enix has many things planned for Xbox, yes. Final Fantasy 16 is among them – which has been said several times now. FF Pixel Remaster Collection is the more immediate release coming from SqEx for Xbox. And the support extends beyond just Final Fantasy stuff.”
Doesn’t surprise me he seems to go for quantity instead of quality with his work. He’ll make a ton of articles because he most likely trying to generate seo money
He, like many, have a quota on how many they have to churn out.
The one release I don’t care for, haha, ah well. Still it would be good if they just announce 16 and maybe even 7R even if they aren’t right around the corner. We shall find out this month.
