It was an okay show for me. After starving their fans, I expected better not to mention most of the games here are multiplat and are scheduled for 2026. There is a feeling a lot of them were pushed to 2026 for GTA which ended up being pushed as well to 2026. Didn’t think Marvel would agree to another console exclusive after seeing Marvel rivals, it however is the only exclusive I think they had other than VR. I doubt the show would move the needle but let’s see how the media will spin it.

Yeah, wow. I’m usually a tough grader for these shows but D is way too harsh. I guess if you just absolutely hate Japanese games or something.

The only thing I’ll say is the show lacked variety in terms of style and culture.

It really wasnt.

For years if MS had a show like this they would have been roasted for weeks for not having any games. Nothing but multiplats and things we had seen already.

And that isnt an indictment of the quality of the games. Reality is, the biggest suprise of the show was a Marvel 4v4 fighting game. Fighting games are already relatively niche. 4v4 makes it even more so.

It’s a good thing they’re putting on PC because let me tell you. If there’s no PC, this game is doomed. PC is basically carrying fighting genre.

Only thing I’m disappointed about is the marvel fighting game and nioh still not being on Xbox. Wtf kind of deal did they sign with Sony Nioh isn’t even published by them is it?

Likely a consistency of “this franchise never gone anywhere else, so let’s keep that tradition, shall we” move on their part. Luckily, it’s on PC day one, because I don’t think this game would do well for one platform, especially with price tag. Worst if go to $80. Otherwise, it would be a cold realization.

Granted, it was basically an advertisement for the dedicated State of Play in July but it’s still a game im going to play day one.

SE literally told people they were done with Sony’s bullshit and people are constantly surprised… you should see Reddit lol.

Didn’t watch the show and in hindsight this was a good decision, way too many fighting games which do absolutely nothing for me.

Lumines rocks. 007 looks disappointing so far. Sudas game could be interesting in a weird way as a mix of Devils Third and Wanted Dead, idk.

very true

Is it that people are surprised or is it that people are simply waiting for Remake/Rebirth/FF XVI as opposed to these smaller games?

Yeah… as someone viewing this show in the way media views literally every Xbox show (albeit with a bit more objectivity and less nostalgia-slobbering) it was abysmal for the implications surrounding Sony’s first party… and most of the games were either known quantities or meh, for my tastes. More than ever, my decision to stick with Xbox and PC keeps paying off.

Does anyone know how many of the games shown at the state of play are play anywhere? I know silent hill is but not sure about the rest

Mine as well the show was supposed to show the state of PlayStation, and the state was pretty abysmal. Xbox and PC it is for me.

The game is slated for 2026 a heavy year for quality likely not free to play in GAAS dominated market not to mention you still have marvel rivals. Marvel will also be charging an a leg. Good that it’s going to PC because I agree it won’t do well on one platform. Cross everything is the norm today and a game that can’t go places is dead in my opinion. Xbox might have opened the eyes of everyone. The standards have changed.

For the amount of noise these fighting games create they sure don’t sell as well lol.

Xbox had been putting out good shows of all last gen but the 1st party was always used as stick to beat it with. Sony went all in on that strategy where anything besides these blockbusters didn’t count, can’t fault their fans now for holding them to it. Their showcase reactions will always be driven by big 1st party games; the underwhelming response is of no surprise. It all goes back to the heavy investment in live service games and at that time PS fans were sure it would not impact their output.

If you look back at old E3, before Phil became aggressive on his push to Xbox, Sony used to have so many strong third party affiliates and of course, their first party games. I believe we all can remember 2016 where dreams became reality, where bingo card was actually stacking, and many more. It’s when 2018 kicks in that you began to see more of bigger titles are presenting at Xbox E3, including Elden Ring, The Division 2, DMC6, and more.

Then maybe ironically, Geoff makes his own show, and as soon as publishers picked up the momentum and increasing importance it has, they start to move away from first party presenters. Xbox then start making moves on their first party games when not only the ones they previously purchased are coming in slowly, but so as new ones from Bethesda and Activision. They went into a marathon, not a sprint.

Now, PS doesn’t even do showcase anymore. Maybe they will this year, but last time they did, it was rather embarrassing. Xbox perhaps did build on strong trust behind the scene and so far, they have been doing wonderful job. Maybe even more so with their new approach according to how Ninja Gaiden 4 became a reality alas publish it yet still release every platform they can. Whatever this year’s showcase brings, I can imagine it will be another case of study on what is PS missing.

I think it has already been said before on the podcast, but it would be cool to have the green goggles of Sam Fisher opening or closing the show on sunday. It seems there’s definitely a chance.
