This sucks, but I guess it was inevitable. For MS first party there’s Game Pass, but I guess this means games like Borderlands 4 and Ghost of Yotei will cost $80 now.
It’s hard to believe that console prices are going UP, so deep into the generation. I don’t even want to imagine what next gen will look like.
Unfortunate news. Doesn’t really affect me because I don’t buy Xbox games (thank you gamepass) but it’s definitely a bummer. I’m expecting games to be around $110 in Canada at this rate lol.
Still sucks that they deemed it necessary to share the pain with the European market since the Euro is rising in value. Sales in Europe have been very lacklustre for a while and this raise might be the coup de grace for the hardware side of things here.
Thank god we still have game sharing. But this probably means 90 euro for Europe? Unbelievable. I guess that 100 bucks for GTA VI isn’t even that far fetched anymore.
I decided to make a beginning with the sequel, there’s talk about a case six years ago, something in a studio etc. It’s been several years since I finished the first one, but is this referring to events from the first game?
I’m sure there will be special offers. However, the fact they did this makes me wonder how dire they expect the market conditions will change. I’m guessing the handheld will be a big deal and probably be $500 and then that June show. Seems like they are going to squeeze other platforms.
Will the PC community buy 80 dollar games?
Pretty bad, on headlines a post by ZhugeEx on blusky goes into the reason why it’s all tarriffs. With the way that keeps jumping everywhere these prices can increase in the future.
Pure greed once again, when a 3070 5 years ago was 50€ more expensive than a XSX/PS5 officially (and price gap was higher since real price was like 600-650€), and now a 5070 is like 20€ more expensive than these same consoles.
As for the 90€ games, just 1 more step into the death of american studios for me, they were the GOAT in the 2000s, now it’s so hard for me to care about anything they release.
And sorry but 80€ was already laughable on Steam, FS2024 bombed, CoD didn’t have an impact on PC sales, Doom doesn’t seem to be doing great numbers a couple weeks before it’s release either, and i can only celebrate it, and once they release 90€ Fable or GoW, i’ll celebrate harder if they flop.
Recently i played a couple masterpieces, KCD2 and Expedition, that came at 60€ and 45€, bit before this i bought PoE2 at 1/3 the price of what i paid for Diablo 4, and content wise they are similar, with PoE surpassing it this 2025 without any doubt, and of course i don’t have to pay for extra content and these yearly expansions.
Same goes for recent huge games like Wukong, BG3, Elden Ring, Cyberpunk, all priced at just 60€, and i’m happy the players answered and all these made great numbers, hope the players keep supporting stuff like that.
I think all this will push subscription to the forefront. It’s clear Microsoft is not as concerned about consoles like many would like them to. They’ll likely try to ride this gen out using Sony consoles as a platform. No doubt with the games now going everywhere many on other platforms might have to go Game Pass due to this absurd pricing.
I highly recommend the mini-doc Gamers Nexus recently did on the tariffs… seeing a lot of misplaced blame and anger when the reality is that this is directly a result of the idiocy coming out of the US government. The only ones winning are retailers (not manufacturers), but seeing some of the takes I’ve seen really makes me wish education systems were better…
Also… seeing someone take shots at console gaming costs when PC GPUs are the price of new cars is rich as hell and unbelievably false (as someone who literally just built a PC). Not defending anything except a yearning for some to come back to reality.
