It’s actually the opposite. Maybe if you’re only talking about VR in the gaming space that it’s growing slower than predicted but there’s more to VR than just gaming. VR is being used in schools for education and STEM, in simulation training for the military, flight simulation, and police training. It’s also used in the medical field for research and to simulate surgical operations.

If you want to watch movies or TV shows in 3D, one of the easiest ways is to use a VR headset.

In terms of gaming, it may still not be as big as PC gaming or console gaming, but as VR/AR continues to grow in business, healthcare, education, and other areas, the technology will become more mainstream and more commonplace items.

We’re literally only talking about gaming, so I fail to see any data that supports the claim that it’s growing… also, using projections that fail to take into account anything we’re currently living through economically is useless. But I’m sure you know better than over 56% of devs from the Game Developer Collective shunning the technology, or TechCrunch and others rightfully calling the segment dead as of… over two years ago, coupled with the biggest platform holder in the space effectively backing out. But sure… VR is growing.

Even Steam Hardware surveys highlight that VR is shrinking in the largest user base of the segment :man_shrugging:

VR for gaming is declining to put it mildly. There were some very negative developer surveys at GDC about this last and this year.

I’ll agree with you that VR gaming isn’t rapidly growing like it was predicted but as long as Meta, Steam, PlayStation, and Apple continue to support VR and the price remains affordable with future iterations as the technology gets better then it will take off over time. All it needs is a few more quality games like Half Life Alyx, Blade and Sorcery, and Beat Saber.

And to bring this back to the Kinect discussion while the Kinect was more of an accessory than a console it was still immersive and fun. And would be great to see Xbox bring it back for games like Guitar Hero, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Minecraft, and Killer Instinct.

Yes and no. I wouldn’t say VR is declining but it still has yet to take off. And I would say the biggest reason VR isn’t huge yet is there isn’t enough games for the VR yet that most gamers are interested in.

VR isnt and will never be a viable option for me because of motion sickness.

I don’t get motion sickness per se, however I don’t really enjoy it either.

Until it’s 100% wireless I don’t ever see it taking off TBH.

So a basic design gets the “full power” yet the cool attractive design gets nerfed back to Wii era. Got it.

Interesting choice to direct.

Glad it’s not another COD direct, I feared that was going to be every year. Interestingly this marks the third Direct post Showcase, each one from one of the three publishers under MS first being Bethesda then Activision now XGS gets the spotlight.

I appreciate when someone else gets the shine, especially from someone that isn’t as big as Bethesda and CoD.
