Extra buttons/paddles are really the only thing I care about when it comes to these controllers

Wish it became the norm for standard controllers instead of having to buy an elite or whatever

There’s a patent from MS that someone posted that mentions their alternative to hall effect sticks which is basically the same thing but better, at least in theory

If they are saving this controller for next gen, so 2-3 years from now, it will have all of these things together

No offense, but this comment technically applies to all the first-party offerings compared to 8bitdo, Mobapad, Gamesir, etc. (Nintendo literally makes the worst controller offerings for the Switch). Those other companies can do those things, like Hall effect or tmr, because they operate on a much smaller than what the cost impact would be for a company like Nintendo or MS.

I have a Gamesir and several 8bitdo controllers for my Xbox alone, and the other area that is glossed over in this conversation is build quality, which is another area where these companies skirt a bit on (cheaper plastics, basic rubber membrane pads, etc), so there’s something to be said about the give and take of the situation.

Which would you recommend (must be wireless)? I’ve been thinking of going 3rd party for a while.

The backpaddles would be really handy for sprinting for me as holding in the sticks to run is never very comfortable.

  1. Yes all first parties are equally bad at this (arguably Xbox is slightly ahead). We were discussing Xbox and thats primarily where I play so that was my comment.
  2. Yes, it would reduce margins for first parties which is why they don’t do it. (They absolutely could negotiate the material prices below what 8bitdo and others pay though).
  3. Yes, there may be some other costcutting measures but I haven’t found them meaningful for my experience. Tradeoffs very worth it in my experience.

If you like your first party controllers, keep getting them. I just have found that going third party has been a dramatic improvement at lower cost.

I got a Razer Wolverine V3 PRO recently. It’s incredible.

My first third party controller, and it’s awesome.

Been watching Looney Tunes today and yesterday with my youngest nephew and man, this stuff just stays timeless. It’s amazing how great the animation to this day is, and how hilarious and just loveable it all is. Bugs Bunny who basically keeps trolling and misleading Taz so that he doesn’t eat him, lol. Roadrunner that draws an entrance on a rock, he can go through it, but Wily crashes into it, because of course he does. Or when he runs off a ledge and doesn’t fall down until he looks down. Genius.

So, that demo of Slitterhead is surprisingly cool. The whole possession thing is very nice and I’m quite digging the enemy design too. Fun enough combat as well.

Something I can see myself getting during a sale at some point.

I loathed that game. It was 15 hours of just what you saw. It never changes and the story is bad. I did a review of it.

Man, talking about how a demo gives off the wrong impression then, by the sound of it. Because the demo makes it seem like a interesting story. I don’t check many reviews nowadays overall, but before/if I buy it I’ll make sure to at least read yours first.

The two best looking games of the year are Xbox exclusives

Star Wars Outlaws looks amazing but sometimes it had that smeary, upscaled look especially in outdoor scenes with a lot of grass. I think it could have been better on console.

Ooh I used to love Razer gear in the early 00’s then stopped buying it as the quality seemed to take a hit.

I have been hearing good things about their new stuff so I’ll check it out.

Disclaimer before anyone jumps at me: Indy is an amazing looking game.

I am beginning to think that DF lately does certain things on purpose to stir shit up/create controversy e.t.c. because for the love of god I can’t understand how a visual masterpiece of a game like HB2 isn’t in the number one spot. It’s like the game that was meant to be drooled over by the DF crew and somehow they managed to not put it in number one…how can a game that looks like freakin’ live action in terms of fidelity AND also have a very impressive art direction be number 2? like seriously I don’t know what the F is going on at this point in this freakin’ industry.

Also putting Astrobot and Penny’s Big Breakaway (really?) in the top 10 is a choice alright…

I enjoyed the demo too, definitely getting it when the first sale hits.

There’s a reason I’d sworn off DF years ago, especially as I became more knowledgeable in my profession and started working/talking with other developers. Absolute waste of time if you’re looking for objectivity and knowledgeable assessments :man_shrugging:

Coincidentally, had been talking about better controllers in a different tech place and ran across this list here. Made me aware of several different options that I never knew existed. I came across one PC-focused controller with TMR (better than Hal Sensors) that also had 2 back buttons and 2 more side buttons for a reasonable price ($79).

There were a few others that had console adapters too.

Yep. My whole point earlier wasn’t “only buy first party” (especially when I never said as such and reported owning several 3P controllers), but that there are plenty of good options that also have their own issues/downsides. I love my Gamesir G7, but for all its hall effectiveness, it’s also not as accurate as a base Series controller.

Hell, I’m still debating another Elite (Fallout edition) or the Razer V3… either way it’s a far cry from the 90s and early 00s when everyone knew to avoid controllers from third parties (Pelican enters the chat).

The Alters is very special indeed, wow.

Really liking the conversations with your alter, talking about your past, bonding.

I just hope it won’t become a “job” as in having to make sure they are well fed, always happy, one person, sure, multiple? Hope it won’t become a chore, that’s not for me. But it will be on Game Pass, so LFG!

The trailer at the end looks awesome too.

And yes, The Tainted Grail is very nice as well, heavy TES vibes, holy cow.
