This is pretty damn awesome.
I think Spider-Man 2 and Dead Space did this too. Really cool use of the loading speeds, though on Xbox itās hardly gonna be noticed when quick resume gets you in even faster into action
I always remember the day when I was impressed by Darksidersā load up screen. Wherever you saved at is your Home Screen.
Unless you only have a single HDMI port on your TV and refuse to use a splitter for some reason, I donāt understand this point at all.
Ehhh, most steam users do not want to connect their PC to televisions and Steam OS is nowhere near ready for TV. Itās really a product that only appeals to the loud online true believers.
SteamDecks are very good value for the specs / game performance they offer for how little they cost - but now Windows-based handhelds of a similar value are around theyāve been losing ground to some of them.
Itāll be a similar issue with a SteamOS console / PC - it needs to be competitively priced compared to building your own PC (given the knowhow required to get some stuff running is comparable to that of knowing how to build PCs) and it definitely needs to be significantly better priced than any Windows console / PC (including whatever Xbox decides to do, given XboxOS is based on Windows).
While SteamOS is improving, until it has a 100% perfect Windows translation layer and can be used for lots of general-purpose stuff as well as gaming (and can support all the biggest games including multiplayer ones that use anti-cheat etc.) itās just not going to be that widespread.
Neither SteamOS or Windows are as user friendly as a console, but for those OK with a bit more tinkering (not a huge amount more given the āpick up and playā profiles for many games nowadays that automatically adjust to your RAM/CPU/graphics card then a Windows one is a winner - SteamOS still isnāt because of the additional tinkering and the lack of support for DRM/anti-cheat software meaning many big games donāt run on it (at least not easily).
If a SteamOS box is a similar price to a Windows one or significantly more than building your own PC itās probably limited to a few million sold, even less than the Deck - as even big Valve fans will admit Windows is far better supported and can do so much moreā¦
Oh damn, I forgot about that. The first one?
Yes. I remember going back to play the game, loaded up, and realized Iām at checkpoint. I was actually wowed.
Sony doubling devsā budgets out of the goodness of their hearts. Nothing asked in return. Bless them.
Then you missed the point, itās not just about space below your TV, itās also just the very real fact that people tend to sell/trade consoles in order to get the new - their digital purchases would then be grandfathered into the new consolesā library. On top of that, over half of PS4/XOne owners havenāt moved on⦠why would you think if they upgrade next gen they also wouldnāt want a way to play titles they missed on said new console (SteamOS doesnāt have the vast majority of those on offer, and people would need to rebuy any old content).
More so, Xbox and Sony both have plenty of data to imply BC is used a hell of a lot more than basement dwellers imply; Sony, alone, wouldnāt have spent a dime on the efforts if the data didnāt support it.
Plenty more complexity, but clearly people agreeā¦
Regional Xbox accounts never post breaking platform news and #scoremorewithXbox is used for sports related news for Xbox benefits in sports games. So, noā¦
I believe Tom said donāt think itās anything big like that.
