The trailer looks nothing like the games premise, bizarre

Is that an iceberg melting in your bathtub ?

I do not get that reference. =)

Did this ever come up at all? I’m not remembering having seen it - just randomly found a link to it on Xbox’s controllers page.

Listening to the latest podcast, the controller rant.

I must be lucky or responsible with my devices, or both because I basically had only one controller bust on me and it’s a Series controller that I dropped on a hard floor and its left stick ruined. That’s it. My 360 controllers from 2010 still work. My XB1 and Series controllers all still work, and my DS4s from 2014 and 2016 with the slim worked till the day I sold them with the console a few years ago. Those are my own controllers that only I used. There were controllers that were shared, usually PS and Nintendo ones in the living room, and yeah those tended to bust especially when we had more young people playing on them

I loved the art style they had shown, as a big Mass Effect fan I’m very sad about this, we need more Sci Fi RPGs.

I haven’t listened to it but the Xbox controllers over the last three generations have been the most reliable, and I take great care of my equipment: my original Elite V1 still works perfectly after however many years it’s been since launch. I’ve had DualShock 3 and 4s go out, and I’ve had joycons obviously deteriorate, but I’ve never had an Xbox controller go out on me (aside from Razer’s Onza for the 360, not Xbox’s obviously).

If a portable will support PS5 games, it needs the hardware for it as there is no way a whole generation of games start magically working without profiles having been made and tested on a lower end hardware that is most likely going to be easily half as powerful, it’s just not happening.

I think MS is in the best position as everything up to now runs on Series S and so a 2026-2027 handheld with Series S power levels might be possible, let’s say 2028 at the latest, and so it’d be possible for them to add some extra RAM and keep this as the 720P portable level hardware for maybe even next gen and have a home console for the higher end graphics.

I do not see Sony coming out with a solution as easily as there is no magic wand you can swing that’ll scale all games, it’s just not possible. I do think both MS and Sony are reacting late and hadn’t planned that far ahead for the handheld, but I think the Series S might turn out to have been a blessing for them as that graphical profile might actually become the baseline for the handheld and guarantee everything made so far will run on it, all the way back to OG Xbox.

It might mean extending this type of hardware for longer if the handheld is considered next gen, but with current limitations and costs needing to stay down in gaming and how people aren’t moving from even Xbone and PS4, I think it’s a compromise they might be willing to make .

Yep I do read some people’s experiences and wonder what on earth they’re doing with their controllers lol - if they get a super hard grip on them or actively move it around like it’s got a gyro in or something!

Or maybe it’s that they play super fast online games like CoD I guess lol.

As I’ve never had stick drift on a single controller, even my 360 ones we hammered almost 24 hours a day for 2 years with Halo 3 etc as a uni house.

The only issues I’ve ever had were a slightly sticky B button on my launch One controller from too many hard assassination presses in AC Unity / Syndicate, which I was able to solve without opening it up, and a clear SNES controller I had as a kid when I lost my temper with Home Alone 2 (was playing on a black and white monitor, couldn’t see the prompt so got stuck lol) and smashed it repeatedly sideways onto the edge of my desk in a tantrum.

It still worked, I taped it up as I preferred it to the grey one and it would randomly shock me in revenge lol.

PC stuff back in the day is a different question - years ago when they first came out wireless mice and keyboards sucked and I bought a cheap set at uni.

It went flying out the window from the top floor of our house after losing me a game and did not survive :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m much calmer nowadays!

In regards to power usage and delivery, I see a lot of article headlines in regards to solid state batteries becoming a commercial reality in the next few years for cars.

The big benefits not just being that they are light and over 2 times as energy dense, but they don’t need to be a certain shape and aren’t flammable, meaning they could be incorporated into the design nicely.

So I’m hoping that the stars align with the release of these new handhelds and with these batteries.

Nine Sols out on Game Pass. I’ve heard so much great about it, looks cool and I love metroidvanias, but it appears to be souls(sekiro)like as well… dang. But for fans of that, go play it, by all accounts it looks like one of the best in that mash of genres.
