Wasn’t the marketing deal with PlayStation meant to end at the end of this year / early next, but they mutually agreed to end it early?

If so it might explain why there’s still a few restrictions until it’s officially over - I thought that’s why they can advertise it on Game Pass on Xbox channels but not go too hard on it on the CoD ones?

Pure speculation of course, but I do remember reading about the restrictions on Game Pass promotion for it…

I think the real flex was watching Channel 4 on his Xbox :stuck_out_tongue:.

1 million sold!

That was quick!

Was there any mention of gamepass?

Saw elsewhere that people have reported something similar to you, and if so I think that’s a missed opportunity to maybe get more consoles out, but also attract more people to Gamepass.

lol MightyClown is probably punching the air right now. Seriously, that might have been one of the worst discourse for this gen and that’s saying a lot. People that are fan of Atlus games and others know it’s multiplat and it doesn’t hurt seeing xbox branding on a game many known is multiplat

If I had to guess, it’s because while Playstation isn’t marketing BO6 this year, they do still have marketing for MW3 for this year which might have restrictions for other games being marketed this year by someone else

MW3 also came to GP months ago despite having PS marketing so it’s possible that MS and Sony worked out a deal that made it bring MW3 to GP early and in exchange Xbox wouldn’t market BO6 the way people expect with, exclusive Xbox logos or whatever

It’s impossible to know really but that would be my guess

Quick as 1 million day 0, right ? That’s really impressive for a new IP JRPG. That’s even pretty unheard of.

Is the game demos tab new? I just saw it today.

Jason Schreier’s Blizzard book was really good, couldn’t put it down. Highly recommended even if you’re not a particular Blizzard fan.

Now time to spend the weekend diving into Vessel of Hatred!

Not sure if anyone noticed, but PS5 Pro is now available to pre-order at retailers since yesterday. It seems like the retailers or at least Gamestop have overestimated the rush for the product as it is still largely available. From what I heard, one of them urged customers to get ready for potential high speed sellout alas get in line. It never happened for me. In fact, I got in without waiting on minute one. It’s still there.

We don’t know how many they have in stock, but I doubt they have double as much as PS5 in stock back in its release window or even as much. I do expect the sales for first month will be fine, but it won’t have a good leg. I think Sony expected to do well because of PS Portal. Yes, many of us, myself included, thought it wouldn’t do well in sales. Looking back, $200 price tag is actually pretty good; almost too good for what it is limited to. If it was another $100 more, it would have fall off quick. I would argue that Portal was their Helldivers 2 while Pro could be Concord. Nowhere near as disastrous as that, but basically they felt anything they put out will automatically turn gold.

It’s been sitting as available on the PS Website since release, I think anyone that was that excited about it would have rushed to it there upon initial release

Just how many did the PS portal sell from my search the number was between 420,000 and 630,000 so not even up to a million yet. The PS5 pro seems like it will sell way less. My guess is less than 100,000. In this economy no one is going to be buying it. If the jump was there like the Xbox one to the one X then it might move a few more but right now it’s too expensive and severely lacking in games. This just makes me think a nextgen console might not be in the cards for Sony.

I would argue that this is an exhibit A on why Series consoles aren’t selling well enough despite being a solid console. I believe back in say 2001, it was easier in compare to today to purchase all three platform, with or without inflation speaking. Today, it’s not easy. In fact, I would believe many felt that buying a console is a one time deal. Like if you can only afford one, sometimes that’s all they need. Switch was released years before the next gen consoles as well as finance fall, so it has little effect.

Sony was doing well over at Japan despite the weak software sales. I mean Astro Bot is no longer in top 10 after selling less than 30,000. Anyway, the console sales was pretty good. That is until they raised the price. Once that happened, they lost at least 20,000 sales in a weekly basis. That tells you that it’s not like before where you can get away with high cost product. Same for $70 games. $60 was a hurdle but we got them because we were fine. Now, not as much.

In any case, we will see how Pro will do in its first month and see how it goes down the road, especially after the holidays.

Re: The PS5 Pro not selling all that well

To me, this is just one more piece of evidence that the future is streaming. I’m thinking i’s the 1-2-3 punch of

  1. Newer generations growing up with phone- and tablet gaming not seeing the value in a dedicated console, period.

  2. The streaming technology only continuing to improve, making even those who are used to console gaming feel like it’s good enough.

  3. The economics of making AA/AAA games forcing publishers to try to reach as many people as possible, thereby making platform holders see less value in maintaining platform exclusivity, and indeed even a platform at all.

Mark my words, we’re one or at most two more generations away from there being no living room hardware. The future of gaming lies in TV apps, portable devices, and PCs.

At best, there’ll be docking stations for those portable devices, but they’ll be considered niche.

People just have no reason to upgrade

A ton of people are still happy to play on XB1/PS4 because all they play is Fortnite, CoD, GTA, Minecraft etc, so if even they don’t care about upgrading to PS5/Series, why would they care about PS5 Pro which is essentially offering the same thing except a little prettier, it’s useless to them

Its going to be even worse next gen in terms of adoption I think, more and more people are going to stay where they are, move to PC or yes, stream more as tech gets better and more widespread
