As a sign that the age of exclusives is coming to an end, that article lists only two games coming to PlayStation but not Xbox: Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei. And I think we can reasonably assume that DS2 is only a timed exclusive.
A few years ago I don’t think that would’ve been the statistic.
2025 but we shouldn’t at least expect PS4 Pro specs? I mean…i wasn’t expecting Series S specs like some rumors would have you believe but PS4 fucking Pro? He’s probably guessing like we all are.
The Tegra T239, which is the switch 2 chip, is based off the t234 which emerged in 2021.
It’s in all likelihood a 8nm chip. I would really suggest people stop expecting Nintendo to push technical boundaries. They are going to sell you old tech and make money.
A Steam Deck is around 1.6 TF. That would be the absolute ceiling, and an unlikely one at that, I would expect from the switch 2.
The reality is that docked or undocked Nintendo will likely down clock the chip. Just keep your expectations at Xbox One - PS4 range with more modern rendering techniques.
Nintendo will get great results out of it, but you aren’t going to want to make it your third party machine. It’s going to get left in the dust a couple years into its life like the switch was.
As many of us have been saying for some time now, No.
The device is confined to a 17 Watt total system power envelope which includes the actual display screen. Other technical limitations inckude memory bandwidth where even the newest mobile memory maxes out at 104 GB/s if clocked to its highest. To conserve power, they wont be clocked that high either. The 4Pro has 217.6 GB/s memory bandwidth.
The biggest limitation of the system is, Its Nintendo. They wont chase performance.
If you are just playing Nintendo games on it (I will be doing the same) it’s going to be more than fine. It’s going to be a decent jump forward from the Switch 1 and the CPU will be decently better than the Jaguar in PS4 and XB1. Nintendo will do some really nice stuff with it.
Yeah I still look forward to it. There was a time I used to think resolution was the end all be all, but maybe we’ll still get some games lower than 1080p but thanks to upscaling (I guess?) it will still look presentable.
Honestly, I’ve played games in 1080p on my big Sony A95K and from my viewing distance it’s fine. I just hope we can get these big open world games like the two Zeldas looking at least clean, crisp, I don’t expect 60fps or anything.
