I think it’s a mix of both really. There’s no denying there’s some added enjoyment from playing OG Xbox games at 4k native thanks to MS’ work on emulating those on their newer hardware, but it won’t stop you from enjoying the games that’s for sure.
The new guard are less whimsical I think and they all grew up during the Wii U debacle.
Maybe because it generates more fear/clicks when us press talks about problems of “us products”
I read news in french and whatever company is involved, the company is mentioned in the title. For the Swiss issue airbus airplane in emergency was in general explicitly mentioned, as for boeing in south corea
For sure nobody in aero industry is happy about a massive company having important troubles, Boeing or airbus having significant troubles often implies that the other one will also have problems (aero industry is particular with respect to that, it’s not like console industry)
That’s what I think too. They MUST NOT repeat that history.
Exactly that!
Lately I’ve been playing N64 games such as Ocarina and Majora’s Mask on Switch and it’s significantly sharper than N64 and that goes a long way. I bet I would have loved it if I played on N64 all the same, but better graphics always does enhance the experience. When I saw Fable last year, the art style and visuals is what blew me away immediately, it’s not the end all be all but absolutely contributes to being an even greater experience.
I quite enjoyed the 3DS versions of those games if you get the chance to play them someday. It’s not a huge leap in graphics but I quite enjoyed the added 3D effect. Those games are classics though, no matter where you play them! If there was one element I’d actually enhance on N64 games it would be the framerate. A lot of those games ran under 30fps unfortunately. I’m always amazed how I played those back then and never complained lol
I think the Switch ones are 60? (Or at least close to it a fair amount of the time)
Switch 360
It runs between 20 and 35 fps, it’s slightly more performant than the N64 (which ran at 20 almost 100% of the time) and the GCN (which ran slightly higher). Definitely not 60 and even more unfortunately, not remotely at a stable frame rate.
Out of those 50 games, im all in for 17 of them.
Please don’t say that. I’m hoping that Switch 2 is at the very least, the PS4/XBO 2013 level which I would have no problem with. Hell, Ryse/The Order/The Witcher 3/MGS 5 and so many other games were on those base consoles before the mid-gen upgrades were released.
Well, Nintendo should pursue and chase performance, just not the visuals/graphics. Hoping I can get Switch 1 and 2 games at 60FPS.
It’s what they should do. It’s simple, effective, no confusion and what else could they call it? I do like Super Switch but who knows how many people that play Switch remembers or even knows about Nintendo and then Super Nintendo. To be safe, they will probably just stay with Switch 2 which to be honest, is probably what I would do as well.
Visuals/graphics and performance use the same tech. Nintendo will not pursue any of it. Expect the Switch 2 to feel old at the same point in its lifecycle as the Switch. Portable tech is still limited by memory bandwidth and its lower wattage. You’re not only pushing the CPU/GPU/Memory etc, you’re powering a screen and speakers.
Less than two months until Monster Hunter Wilds!
Very excited for that one. Adore MH World.
The most important part of the equation: Nintendo. They’ve shown that they aren’t remotely interested in the cutting edge (and haven’t since the GCN). That’s not a judgement, as they’ve managed to be successful without doing so, just making it clear that anyone expecting some sort of portable Xbox should probably realign their expectations.
Edit: Should have also added that I expect the performance target to be “above” the Xbox One, due to its DLSS solution and the fact that APU architecture has made significant strides over the last decade in a perf-per-watt perspective.
Exactly.
It is a game design limitation. Not all games are as good as big GTA like games where almost all the area is accessible .
Yup, we definitely do it real world as well. Makes sense to be honest.
Only 9 for me, but that’s more than enough. Although I wasn’t aware that Gears of War had been announced for 2025, so I wouldn’t be surprised if at least that one doesn’t come out this year. So these 8 are what I’ll be playing over the next 12 months:
- Sniper Elite
- Assassin’s Creed
- Avowed
- Atomfall
- Fable
- South of Midnight
- The Alters
- The Outer Worlds
Oh, and Starfield. Always Starfield.
Another game, another trash HDR implementation.
Genshin Impact.
Drowns out all the nice colours and makes it all very bland looking. SDR brings back the colours.
Devs, if you can’t do it properly, don’t do it at all.
Yep I still find it amusing when people complained about it in Still Wakes the Deep - when the consultants pointed out of course lifts, ladders, low headroom / crawl spaces and stairs are brightly marked in yellow on real oil rigs because they’re a really dangerous environment at the best of times
Pretty wild.
- 6 of these are 1st party Xbox
- And 9 are 3rd Party Day 1 GamePass releases (including Riot’s 2XKO and Football Mgr 25)
Riot’s 2XKO is coming to game pass?
