I hope what The Verge heard was dead wrong then. I mean sure, Xbox isn’t doing exactly great here but MS should give it a chance with heavy hitting franchises like CoD day one in Dame Pass. At least wait a bit, see what kind of results you get. The fact that you have such a humongous IP day one in your service IS a game changer.
Will it get people to sub to GP via PC or Firestick etc, or will they also start to buy the console? Time will tell and I hope MS has some patience, at least give it a chance.
I’ll own up to that. I was going to read the article yesterday, but had already made the mistake of reading comments on other forums and Twitter and ended up not reading the article after all. My bad on that.
Less emphasis when there barely is any marketing is still not good though. Especially with CoD day one on Game Pass, advertise it, show it in the cinemas here before the movie starts etc.
I’ve just clocked out on this stuff about Xbox strategy, everyone is an expert when it comes to running Xbox. Every decision they make is analysed 1000 times over, Sony increased PS+ prices whilst offering nothing new, removing 1st party games when they see fit, case by case basis when they put their games in the service too. But when Xbox does it for 1 tier, everyone needs clarity when games will come for some reason.
Gamepass is an option for all Xbox and PC users, not the only way to play games. Comparing it to other streaming services is dumb, you have the choice as a customer to say no and go back to buying games at full price or on sale.
People are desperate for traditional marketing when companies have mostly stopped using it because it doesn’t work anymore. Targeted ads on social meda/video sites/apps get far more eyes on things for far less money.
If everyone I see is any indication, they have also gotten a lot of micro transaction money for a good amount of people.
Edit: Also from talk online(reddit really), people seem to think the approach to micro transaction, isn’t too bad and just hope Nexon doesn’t get too greedy.
They will still be advertising games and services, and surely those games and services will have Xbox logos in the ads. I think it just means they’ll do less advertising focused specifically on selling consoles.
I honestly don’t even know what kind of console specific advertising I see in the first place. It’s either for a game or it’s for Game Pass.
I’ve mentioned this before but seeing how this is the month I want to say it again. I struggled to get buy a XSX at launch, likely due to scalping. I ended up using Xbox All Access with Telstra, a communication company in Australia who had the program available. With Xbox All Access you got your choice of either an XSX or XSS paid monthly for 24 months, Game pass Ultimate was also given at no extra cost for the period. So the 24 months ended 26th July 2022. I still have free GPU and neither Xbox nor Telstra seem to care and seem to think I need to contact the other to resolve this, so I can take back control of if I want it or not, I do.
I finally see an end date on my Microsoft account under My Subscriptions that tells me it expires on 26th July 2024. If this comes to pass, I got the 2 years I was meant to get free and an additional 2 years because someone messed up. And all that at just the price of a XSX with no mark up for Telstra. What a deal.
Just to keep in mind, concurrency is not the same as total player count for a game. The former is definitely helpful when it comes to finding players/matchmaking during various hours of the day though.
While true, it’s still low for a game that a company wants to push. I forgot which game that recently released that had strong numbers yet it was a beta and I thought it was official release. But time will tell.
Was wondering why one achievement I got was rare while another one after wasn’t in Coffee Talk EP2, and man some of those achievements feel like just be an asshole on purpose(well mostly if you don’t know about them).
