If they do go the portable route, we might see cross gen for a full generation lol. Surely anything they put on a next gen portable will run fine on an XSX and (likely) an XSS.
Well yeah, I fully expect this to happen, traditional generations are going to be gone or at least very different to what they once were
Games will be more scalable, played for longer and be made across multiple systems, the idea of you gotta buy this next gen console for this next gen exclusive game will become rarer as time goes on
Itâs also maybe why Xbox isnât as concerned about third party support as people expect, they won;t just have an audience of the next gen handheld, theyâll have everyone on Series also, same goes for Playstation with the PS5 and whatever they do next
The only way it makes sense is there are 3 SKUs, where the bottom two are identical spec, one being a handheld and one being a standard nonportable console. The third sku would be the top tier powerhouse Series X like model,
And what would Sony be doing? Theyâd be ending on top with most powerful system or do we think they too would go this route?
I can see them doing a native handheld, but for it to be PS4/PS5 games focussed, and P56 game streaming.
Game streaming, hmmm. But by that time can it be on par with the native console gaming experience? No lag, no artefacts, 4Kâish/60fps? As long as this canât be guaranteed I donât want anything to do with streaming. Xbox sure isnât there yet.
I hope MS just keeps doing what they do, let this hybrid stuff stay with Nintendo. Or at least have a normal, powerful console like XSX.
I mean streaming PS6 games from the PS6 but everything else native.
And would this mean devs have four systems to develop for(at first, because XSX and S wonât just be abandoned right away)? I cannot imagine devs being happy at all, and with this mp stuff very likely happening, it remains to be seen if the effort will be there.
I personally couldnât give two shits about handheld or streaming, but if Sony were to end up with a significantly better system than MS (because their handheld and console wouldnât be the exact same in power) then I know what I will be going with next gen. But this is all hypothetically speaking of course, all speculation.
Ideally MS just makes one system and calls it a day, but something tells me they see the success of Switch and want a piece of that pie too. Weâll see what the future holds.
Better get used to it, cross gen is going to be more and more of a thing going forward, that being said, I expect MS to try and make it as easy for devs to develop on the platform as possible despite multiple skus
I also kind of expect the handheld to be more or less a Series S in handheld form by the time it releases so if they can develop for one, they basically have the other ready to go as well
Personally Iâm not to fussed about handhelds but I also donât really give a toss about uber powerful consoles either, I got my S and Iâm more than happy with it and having something like that in handheld form a few years from now is enticing even for me who doesnât really do handheld much
Personally the less focus on power the better, itâs a big reason why these budgets are absolutely out of control, obviously I donât want it weak piss like the Switch has been but I donât need ultra 4k Ray Tracing locked 60 bla bla bla either
I am reading @Shpeshal_Nick has said Jason Ronald and his team have been replaced by the Surface team for the design of the next Xbox.
Completely? I thought Jason Ronald and his team were working on the home console while the Surface team worked on a portable.
If thatâs true I can see the next Xbox not even comparing to the Series, since imo the Surface team doesnât design hardware thatâs particularly good.
The portable and home console will have similar design/guts, even if ramped up.
I expect it to be a little bit less custom silicon-wise, but in the end these things are just PCs and the Surface team simply uses the best Intel/AMD/ARM chips available to them that meet the requirements of the device.
Design of Surface devices is pretty top notch IMO, but has nothing to do with internals.
Annoying new issue on Xbox lately. Audio totally gone and canât seem to get it back.
Seems to occur after I go to the dashboard while I am in a game. And then I go back and the sound is gone. Itâs gone on the dashboard too, super fucking annoying.
Only a reboot seems to help, ffs. Right now this makes quick resume completely unusable for me.
How/what are u connected to? Could it be some kind of hdmi handshake issue?
Unfortunately, it seems like Surface devices are also pretty prone to just dying quickly, as a lot of people have reported online and my own experience with their Surface Phone.
I have it all connected to my Harman Kardon Citation Multibeam 1100 soundbar via HDMI and before last week I never had any of these issues. Itâs probably not due to an Xbox update either then I guess. Handshake issues can just start to occur out of the blue?
Was any firmware update pushed to the SoundBar or TV over the past week? Sometimes those things can cause headache.
Oh boy, I forgot that is a possibility too. It does sometimes turn on by itself and then turns off. Perhaps thatâs when itâs updating. Gonna have to check that. I should disable these auto update options.
Agreed completely. I donât understand why people care about power to the extent they do. As far as Iâm concerned, games have looked more than good enough for well over a generation at this point.
@Staffy At some point I had a similar sound issue, and found that one way to get the audio back was to go into settings, select a different format, then select the original format. E.g. switch from Atmos to 5.1 and back to Atmos. Brought it back every time. Still annoying, but at least it saved me from rebooting.
Yeah this was the first thing I tried, but didnât help it, damn. When I had this issue the other day I did manage to get it back without rebooting, just not sure how anymore.
