It’s important to always check stuff yourself. This Twitter dude Kami posted about Tom Warren talking about Doom and with a potential release this year.
Tom didn’t utter a word about a release date.
And after what Nate said, I’d be surprised if it’s really Doom that ID has been working on since Eternal.
Established IP, so I guess I assumed something that exists but isn’t Doom because I recall a few years ago ID saying they were done with Doom or something like that. Then there is that speculation about Quake, or were there even rumors about that? Not sure. And there is as also this, but this is highly unlikely.
Oh and almost forgot that Doom Year Zero was in the ABK docs, wasn’t it? I guess it definitely could be after all then.
Yep I understand the technical reasons, I’m just weird and can get distracted in the few seconds of loading.
There were some bad examples in Starfield though - where you’d leave your ship (one loading screen), enter the main building (second loading screen) then go to another floor (third loading screen) then the same on the way out, for a simple fetch quest. I liked the open exploration of Elder Scrolls etc, so wandering around on planets or cruising in my ship were the closest I’d get as many mission locations were a bit small.
So I imagine I’ll find it much less of an issue in ES6 either way as I’ll likely be able to walk / ride for miles.
At least they’re much faster now with SSDs - they were much longer in Skyrim to the point I’d track the Khajit trader down just so I didn’t have to enter a shop to buy stuff lol…
Everything points to Quake 6 being a second machine games project. I think people assumed no Doom because the DLC wrapped up the story. Klobrille did come out and say that Year Zero wasn’t a thing as well.
That GamesRadar tweet is just pathetic engagement begging. To me it’s the laziest thing you could possibly do as an outlet/individual. It’s even worse considering it’s such a stupid question to begin with.
The short ad at the start is like the smartest thing to do, but I wonder how many ads they actually need for it to make sense financially, so I wonder if they actually need to go 1 step beyond that. Having the game completely pause to play an ad would be disruptive, especially in multiplayer games, but 1 ad at the start might not be enough, so I wonder if a PiP type of thing could work out.
I think what I’m about to propose may be considered too cumbersome or complicated, but personally I think a credits based system would be neat.
Say the ad supported tier is $5 a month. For that you get 300 credits, and to play games you spend 1 credit per minute. Meaning, for your $5 you can play games with no ads and no interruptions for 5 hours.
If you want more credits to play more games, you have to watch an ad. Maybe one ad grants you 20 credits, so you have to watch 3 ads to get one more hour of gameplay.
And maybe unused credits can be banked from month to month. That would appeal to casual players I think.
And maybe you can set it up so you always start a gaming session by watching an ad or two. By the time you’re out of your 300 credits, you’ve “automatically” earned a few more.
I wish that PD was a lock for June now, it’s high time we saw something tangible.
“may” be at the show is not cutting it for me. So definitely putting my expectations in check which is at 0. Learned my lesson when folks said Avowed “may” be at the show back then, or Starfield “may” release that year until Jason decided it was time to slap us in the face with cold, hard reality, lmao.
I really don’t understand the hatred for the loading screens in Starfield. The Creation Engine is what it is and their games have always had loading screens when taking you from one “cell” to another. They were much worse back when we had mechanical HDDs.
Honestly, I feel like most people hate them because other people hate them and it’s become the cool thing to complain about. Sorry if that belittles anyone’s opinion, but I just don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Hell, I would gladly trade the airlock door animations for a loading screen on some of those planet structures.
I don’t think your original statement was wrong IMO.
As someone who has put 300-400+ hours into Starfield I think it’s fair to say that Starfield has many more loading screens than most modern RPG’s.
If you simply Google “Starfield Loading Screens” it’s pretty clear there’s lots of frustration there.
However people want to defend it (including just saying it’s a Bethesda game?), I personally do think it’s an issue. The most logical reason is due to the way the game / game engine has to load all the unique assets in each custom location and of course all the hand crafted content that we love in Bethesda games.
I do think Bethesda should look at how they can modernise this.
Other RPGs rarely simulate everything to this degree. The cell-based structure is why it did it, and unless you’re traveling across worlds will it be as prevalent? I do not expect loading screens as often in FO4 or ESVI
I am starting to think that no one really knows anything and they are just throwing random guesses around…we went from Quake reboot to DOOM Year Zero to Mandalorian to DOOM again.
As much as I love both DOOM 2016 & Eternal I’d like to see id try something new for a change, that being said I am still excited for whatever id is working on because it is a god-tier studio and Hugo Martin is a very talented director (even if he made some mistakes in the TAG2 expansion) plus with so few AAA fps games this generation everything is welcome. lol
Loading screens are not the end of the world, but when I was in New Atlantis and took the tram, I just would have loved it if the tram took me to the other areas in real-time. If people dislike that maybe BGS could make it optional. A while ago I saw that Cyberpunk apparently (unless it’s a mod) has this and it’s great.
Just more immersive. But I guess if it had been possible Todd would have put it in.
That is true, however I don’t get why people would be against Bethesda looking at how they can improve/decrease loading screens when it was one of the most complained about issues.
If Bethesda come out and say it’s not possible without sacrificing other features then sure keep them in. I just don’t think we should be in the mindset of it worked 20 years ago let’s not improve it now.
It is the base way of how their engine works and in future games more is tied to a single open world. This was a different type of game where you’re constantly going to brand new cells that are as big as skyrim but with less in them. FO5 will be in one area. ES VI will be in one area. By default there will be far less times where you need a loading screen.
