I don’t follow him anymore because he’s the one that contributes to that feeling
I wonder how long before Sony moves to do a Game Pass Core thing with Essential?
Was thinking that compared to getting games for Game Pass, which is smaller and third party games aren’t permanent for the user, it must cost way more.
They may not, as the backlash might be too great - they might just downgrade the quality except for months they want to push a sequel, but it must be costing a lot for some of the games they’ve done over the last few years…
Switch 2 sounds pretty beefy for what I expected.
Right now, they’re trying to find a way to stop the damage that isn’t like Xbox with Game Pass. I think the rumor Pro console is their way to make it up for it since the software has been slacking, especially in Japan. Every company has their path for business.
Nintendo is in a safety net since Switch has been around for long time. Next move will be considered risky to some degree. Wii U PTSD is likely still there. Not to mention, once they make the jump, technically economy will reset for them and hope for Switch successor in terms of business boom. Anything short will be sign of danger. Not to mention, they’re likely have to increase game price for all, not just Zelda. It’s probably a testing water. If they can nail it down, they will be fine. I hope.
I don’t think the PS5 Pro will help them. Hardware doesn’t make much (if any) profit, and most of the buyers will be existing users upgrading from the base PS5. It won’t lead to any noticeable increase in users or software revenue.
Sony is basically still trying to “win the console race” by padding their hardware stats. But that’s not where the money comes from.
Don’t name it like an addon and don’t market it like an addon.
It is strange how they don’t like to name the next console as a sequel with number, though they did with name and well, Wii U. They should go back to old days with Super in its name, but maybe Wii U Flashback will kick in, so I’m counting on them in marketing.

“Kneel before me!” -Gabe most likely
They seem to only do a sequel name when hardware features don’t change radically. NES->SNES, GB->GBC->GBA, WII->WIIU. NDS->N3DS
And WII U had unfortunately marketed with Gamepad first and foremost, so people assumed it’s an addon.
Hypothetically, if the next successor is the same as Switch but stronger, they really got to market it like it is the next generation console and not OLED model upgrade. They have to convince everyone that it’s a real upgrade.
For the whole gaming industry, therefore this is the right thread.
Yep Nintendo will be fine - they’re also becoming risk-averse like everyone else, but their version of risk-averse is just releasing a successor to their hugely successful console rather than a new console type / new gimmick.
They’ve done it before as you say with the SNES and the Game Boy versions, so they know it’ll work and isn’t a scary play like the Wii U or GameCube were.
Whereas Sony’s risk-averse behaviour yep I think is ditching the live server push for the most part (having initially thought that would be the least-risky option maybe) and going back to what they know - upgraded versions of consoles, remasters and sequels, while shutting their smaller, more innovative studios and starting to cut back the spend on things that haven’t worked out (in the past Vita, now PSVR2).
It puts Xbox in perspective - they’re also trying new things, in the past it was Game Pass, and now additionally it’s whether they go multi-platform for some / all games, let PC stores onto Xbox, have a handheld device, lean more into mobile and cloud etc. - and like Sony may try and be a little safer by leaning into established IP…
Can’t wait! I don’t really buy games anymore unless they’re on sale or get out of Gamepass and I still wanna play them (just got Taiko Drum Masters on sale recently as me and the kids love it!), but this… oh boy, this I gotta have Day 1! The trailers hit me right in the feels, playing the original game when I was 8 years old was magical!
I really need to try and finish hellblade 1 before 2 comes out. Got through about half of it before and loved the atmosphere and environment but combat and puzzles werent too engaging for me.
Downloading now and will try to push through as overall i was liking it.
I plan to just look up the puzzles lol
Haha good plan! Stealing it
