But that cost more than a GPU and CPU with better AI capabilities.
Probably not if theyâre getting it from Nvidia.
I think they will go with Intel, I only mentioned Nvidia because they are the leaders in that section.
I think AMD is ahead of Intel when it comes to NPU. Qualcomm ahead of both with their Snapdragon Elite X

2026 doesnât sound unrealistic.
It would be interesting if they started next gen with a portable in 2026 and released a high end console in 2028.
They need both in 2026.
But not in AI for CPU, GPU and that is the one that matter.
NPU is another part of an APU just like the CPU and GPU. They are used by Intel, AMD, Qualcomm, Apple, etc. I assume a next gen Xbox will have dedicated AI processors instead of relying on GPU resources.
I donât know. That stuff feels weird to me as well. People take this console stuff too seriously in general even if it isnât toxic like that post.
Sony are never going to put helldivers 2 on xbox. So no idea what this thing is.
Personally I see it as good fun. PS gamers genuinely being ok (as a person should) if the game were to come to Xbox.
This game would have been a nice trade, with Sony getting Sea of Thieves AND Grounded as online games.
But no. Of course not. Sigh.
lots of positive xbox stuff today. On a Saturday no less
Yeah, I have been fully expecting the next xbox to have purpose built ai chips designed by Microsoft. Nvidia is too expensive for mass market. And I donât see them leaving amd for cpu gpu but who knows.
Yes SC6. I just saw it as sub-4K and that along with T7 made me think I shouldnât reward Namco for not having a next gen upgrade.
Yep! Iâm pretty sure Microsoft still has a close relationship with AMD.
I canât remember exactly but they announced a while back that their Azure servers are now using AMDâs Instinct AI chips instead of Nvidiaâs.
There was also a rumour that they are working together on a AI accelerometer.
I think we might also see a closer relationship with ARM going forward, they are already working on a CPU together (Project Cobalt).
I kinda expect theyâll use the AI solution provided by whatever vendor they work with, perhaps being open to paying for a bigger chip to get more performance.
I think PC compatibility, return on investment, etc make a case for not going extremely custom on your hardware design. Integrating their own designs into an AMD APU might be pretty pricey and I wonder how much better itâd be than what AMD has available at the time.
PS5 Pro is rumored to have 300 TOPs (surely all coming from the GPU) which is getting pretty close to what NVIDIA is doing in their GPUs.
I think where they differentiate might be having an actual NPU instead of relying only on GPU to do AI.
I believe MS said that for diversity they keep using both Nvidia and AMD and will add their own into the mix as well.
I thought I saw mentioned that you canât really compare TOPS like that as it depends how they count it or something like that, guessing same as what they did with their reporting on TFlops, so we should wait and see, and I personally see that having a hard time reaching what Nvidia was able to achieve through several generations of designs.
As for the design, I always wondered, what keeps steam games from releasing on Xbox for example besides the OS and licensing agreements? There are customizations done on the APU for sure but wouldnât those just not be affecting regular games except if they were optimized for it? I actually wonder if itâs more complicated than that.
That would make sense with how quick they are expanding, it also doesnât make them reliant on any one provider.
