This passing the blame for other peoples reactions onto Microsoft needs to stop.
People are talking about it because of situation like this ?
I get that the situation with Tim Stuart is different, but then they release a XGS published game to another platform.
Doesn’t help the narrative at all.
Edit: the big question is who owns the IP ? If the developer owns it then yeah, whatever.
But if Xbox owns it, then it’s just feed the narrative.
This obsession with what losers, who are never going to buy Xbox, think is astounding. Cue the “fun at parties” meme ad nauseam with some of you all. If it’s simply published by Xbox but the property was owned in full by the studio, it’s literally no different than Sunset Overdrive or Rise of the Tomb Raider… or literally any Sony-funded temp exclusive. Some of you need to get a grip… seriously.
I look at As Dusk Falls as A Cuphead situation. If first party Xbox Studio games start going other places it will become a problem. A second party minimal impact game As Dusk Falls that who cares no different than the Medium or if The Gunk went other places who cares.
Lol, we almost made it a full day without a “crisis”.
A game like this, wasn’t anything big, not much value holding on to exclusivity, the studio itself mostly likely asked to allow to release on other platforms and MS were like ok whatever. That’s just how I imagine it. If you followed what Phil especially has been saying, he has always left room that there might stuff like this, they’re not 100% strict.
This really isn’t “MS going 3rd party publisher” if anyone just looked and thought the slightest bit more at the fact that MS isn’t even publishing it…
You’re right and I wrote the part about ownership in my edit.
I’m little bit too invested in my favorite platform.
Was Cuphead a first party published game? All I remember is just exclusive
The problem is that the whole third-party discussion is basically the current “virus” against Xbox fans since ABK happened. If people can cure themselves or prevent it, this wouldn’t be a discussion, so in other words, only you can prevent the virus.
In a funny way, Nintendo would be like “First time?”
Taiwan’s website never had As Dusk Falls listed for Xbox or PC before today, despite the game being rated 18+ back at launch. You can go and look it up for yourself. I don’t know if it’s getting ported or not, but this could be them catching up on a rating they forgot to list before and getting the platforms wrong.
They do show xbox games rated there, like Starfield
I can’t be having Madela effect but didn’t L4D2 got rated for PS and never saw the light of day?
He means not the last As Dusk Falls. A sequel kind of leaked a while ago.
Yeah it’s happened with nearly all Square games Nintendo published on Switch (even the very successful Octopath Traveler 1) and Fatal Frame 4 and 5 (both initially Nintendo published). Wonderful 101 as well.
This is good as I need to know where the story goes
Even if we entirely give into this situation, lets follow it through to the other aspects and possible benefits for Microsoft.
Assuming that As Dusk Falls is published by this other party, in a specific region (Taiwan), for the Sony platform, might this be a strategic play? This would get their games out on platforms that people in the region have. This introduces gamers to their games and can bridge them over to the Game Pass platforms. They can mention “Available with GamePass on Xbox / PC” for one low monthly rate.
The gaming industry is evolving. Those who refuse to evolve will be left by the wayside like the Horse Whip and Buggy manufacturers.
If you don’t own it, they can leave it.
Like I said it wouldn’t surprise me at all if we see other non successful third party published games like Recore, Quantum Break and Battletoads 2020 eventually make their way to other platforms after renegotiations.
Especially if they cost money to keep on Game Pass, letting a game like Recore’s publishing rights go to keep the game on game pass without any fees would be a no-brainer for both parties.
I can also definitely see Quantom Break being renegotiated since it impacts the Remedy universe and Sam Lake probably want to reintegrate it into the storyline, which he currently cannot do since MS owns the licence.
Or Xbox doesn’t own the IP and didn’t have an Xbox forever only clause maybe?
Y’all acting like it’s MS themselves putting this on PS, you can blame them for not locking it down but this clearly isn’t MS releasing their games elsewhere/going third party situation
