This fucking sucks. Why would anyone put the pressure and blame on the studio and devs.
In the words of wrestling meme, next week could be a massacre.
That recent Redfall piece is just downright bullying. It goes beyond being cruel.
The game rightfully got dragged through the mud on its release, there should never be a reason to revisit and bash it even more if there isnât even an update for it or anything.

Or you know, something different from you SSM? Iâd like that.
Notice the terminology suddenly. IGN writes a pro PlayStation article saying stand alone DLC is the future calling it âhalf-sequelsâ. Now itâs half-sequel this, half-sequel that.
Itâs blatant. They know that is what Santa Monica is working on. I personally hate them. Miles Morales shouldâve been an expansion. All you are doing is making people download another game that uses the same assets instead of using the same base. Plus you get a nice new premium price for it.
I am so happy we still have teams like BGS and CD Projekt Red who actually do real expansions.
Itâs utterly ridiculous, half sequel, wtf? And yep, Miles absolutely should have been a expansion. 100% agreed about BGS and CDPR. I expect the Starfield expansion(s) to be very worthwhile.
I just got a reply on Twitter that apparently SSM is also working on a new game, a sci-fi game. Now i hope thatâs true.
Working on another game, yes. Itâs Coryâs game he is directing after God of War 2018.
Sci-fi, nobody knows. That is just rumors based off the game that got canceled before GoW. It was cancelled, so the odds of them trying again are slim.
Wonât get my hopes up too much about sci-fi then, but something not God of War makes me happy.
Yep, itâs no longer deniable (I was called a conspiracy theorist lol). The gaming media is blatantly obvious in their allegiances.
Do we know whether Coryâs game is single player only? Or is it SSMâs gaas title?
SSM didnât seem to have any indication of a gaas project in jobs or hires.
I donât mind the âhalf-sequelâ type approach, just donât charge full price for it, I think Hivebusters was what $20-30 iirc? could be wrong
Regardless, as long as itâs on GP I donât care tbh
Glad to hear it. I like multi-player games, but I want the likes of SSM and ND to stick to what they do well.
Haha thatâs a good one, of course theyâll charge $70. I donât want 30hr games cut in 3 to be sold as 3 10hr $70 games which will happen if people beg for this.
Donât think standalone expansions need a strong opinion on them. Theyâre fine. Theyâre priced higher, for sure. But also they are sold separately if you want, this is cool in some scenarios.
Theyâre neither the future nor a huge issue. Just a way of packaging, delivering and monetizing content among the multiple we got in the industry.
In that half-sequels article, here are some of the tidbits:
- âSo far nobody has done them better than PlayStation.â
They didnât invent the concept. Other companies have do smaller stand alone games such as Wolfenstein: The Old Blood. But I guess the argument is PS the best.
- " CD Projekt Red, with several projects that we know of in development but no release date for any of them in sight, has gifted us with Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, a standalone expansion for the ages and a challenger for Game of the Year in a year that saw the release of both The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Baldurâs Gate 3."
The above is so wrong, do they even have an editor? Phantom Liberty IS NOT standalone. Itâs part of the story, you have to play through the game to access it. Tell me you never played it without telling me. Also notice BG3 and Zelda, but no Starfield lol.
- "Something is going to change in AAA game development, it has to. "
In other words: Iâm afraid of Xbox has the perfect platform to launch new IP and I need Sony to do something because they have not told me anything that is coming out.
