Imagine if MS pulls a move where Sony does their PS5 Pro with just an upgraded GPU but Microsoft starts the next generation with a whole new S|X generation and when Sony starts their next one in 2028 Xbox comes out with another one haha. Cut generations in half, seriously 8 years is probably too long anyway with how fast cpu upgrades are.

The total lack of responsibility and journalistic integrity here is pretty appalling. I know it’s just games, but I would be mortified if I considered myself a journalist and this happened to me. Meservey is a shitty person but she’s right to call out a straight-up fabrication. I can’t imagine getting caught out like this and being bellicose about it.

I would be in favor of that. But judging by what was revealed during ABK trial that they expect the next gen in, I think it was 2028?
Let’s just say I hope they really come back on that. I don’t think we should underestimate Sony too much about the Pro. But assuming MS really doesn’t do a Pro this generation, 2028 is far, faaaar too long to be losing the power “game”.

I don’t get it
Losing the power game isn’t ideal but you have to remember, the pro consoles last gen were about 20% of all Xbox/PS4 sales iirc
Also the ps5 pro is either likely to be very expensive or if they do manage to price it competitively, it will just force MS to be aggressive with their S and X prices
A $200 Series S for example, that + CoD marketing returning + GP would be very enticing

True, but for me as customer, as long time Xbox player and wanting their best of the best this does absolutely nothing for me. But we’ll have to wait and see how it all pans out.

Being a Microsoft gaming customer and wanting the best means you should be gaming on a PC with an RTX 4090. The option is already there for you. Why haven’t you switched?

That’s fair but the X is still a powerful bit of kit, I feel like people only care about a new more powerful Xbox/Pro because Sony is likely doing one instead of actually wanting a Pro console so it feels like it’s just coming down to console wars

Because I’m all about their consoles, have been since day one.
Have been going back and forth on whether to go for pc gaming, but just too many doubts, I’ve been using their consoles for so long, not easy to just jump over to PC. Neither cheap.

For me it’s all about my platform of choice and wanting to keep buying all multiplatform games on it. But once I have both platforms and a particular game is significantly better on PS, I can’t justify to buy the inferior one.
Long story short, I just want my favorite console brand to keep up. That’s all there is to it. But if they don’t, them starting the next gen a year or two sooner would be great. Ala 360.

It’s much easier for me because I’m basically GP or nothing so I never need to worry about mutliplat performance or Pro consoles, so games could be performing better on their platform but it wouldn’t matter at all to me
Unless performance was downright horrendous it’s not something id ever worry about and even Series S, nevermind X has been performing more than fine for everything iv played so far

If there’s PS5 Pro that means there will be XSX…Pro/Elite whatever lol. Like it’s basic competition they both would be aware of the other’s plans and so if there’s PS5 Pro then Xbox would be compelled, out of principle of competition, to do a similar console. Though it might take a year more, like the X1X.

You would think so, but Phil did say X is the mid gen refresh. But, plans can change of course.
Honestly, at times I’m like fuck it, I’m going to either buy or build a crazy PC. Be able to run Starfield, Cyberpunk etc at their best and be done with it. And that might be the case for some games. But it just isn’t as plug and play as consoles are. The ease of use of consoles is what keeps me there.
I actually kinda wish there was a way to rent a powerful gaming pc, just experience it, see for myself how I like it and instead of doing away with Xbox, I’ll keep that for my huge ass backlog and every new game is on PC. I actually might start looking into it.
You can buy a PC that runs stuff better than the console, but you’ll then look at the even better high-end PC specs that run stuff even better, with RT, at 120fps, and whatever else. It never ends.

You aren’t wrong about it, it definitely never ends. But surely I would be able to play many of these bigger future games at least in 60fps or higher for a long time to come? But you do have a point, with PC you can keep going and going, for better or worse. With console there is a limit until after several years later with either mid gen refreshes or new gens.
On the other hand, the wallet only allows so much. So even if I wanted a better pc, it stops at some point because other things are more important.
Xbox should go full on Nintendo and make the handheld SKU for First Party games alone (third party optional)
Instead of focusing on X’s opinion, xbox should focus on what market wants. Nintendo’s success and recent launch of PC handhelds makes it clear that market wants hamdheld.
As far as Xbox Series X pro goes, I am building one myself in coming months with RT 4070 for around $1000
