Hahahaha. I have no issues with turn based combat in general but for games that I may be interested in, I simply prefer real time action combat. I completed three turn based games last generation, Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle (which got me back into it after two decades), Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden and Gears Tactics. I know these are turn based strategy RPG’s but I also completed Child of Light and Battle Chasers Nightwar.

They’re all great games in my opinion but after Gears Tactics, I simply had my fill and just don’t have the patience anymore. If Dragon Quest XII is still turn based, no biggie, I will just skip it. Either way is fine by me but if I could choose, it would be real time action combat.

Yeah, I kind of get where you’re coming from. I like action games just as much as I like turn based ones. I just prefer them to stick to their lane, if that makes any sense? From my perspective, I already “lost” FF, so I would be sad to see DQ move in a similar direction.

There will always be games like Octopath Traveler as a substitute, but still.

I don’t want every RPG to be cut from the same cloth, of “realistic” graphics. As for fully voice acted it’s something so many people hate! I don’t have too much of a problem with it(outside of the Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077 because I found the characters dislikable because of the choice for voice actor), but for the sake of the entire fanbase of all RPGs out there it needs to be a choice that you can toggle. Because a lot of people will end up finding the fully voice acted character dislikable just because of the delivery of their lines.

I hate the trend to be honest. Final Fantasy lost me for good a while back due to this and the FF7 Remake being an action game instead of a faithful remake of the original game really bothered me, and still bothers me.

I get the why of it, but it still sucks.

That’s like saying you want Disney to make a mickey Mouse game where Mickey is a rapist who abducts and tortures children. Shame on you.

If Zelda gets away with silent protagonist, I don’t see why not keep it that way.

I hate it when he does this. Someone else says a rumour about something. He will then chip in to say he heard the same thing. Now that Tom Henderson says he heard it’s not true he then “hard confirms” he heard this as well now.

Something similar happened before earlier this year. Sloth tweets some bullshit rumour from 4chan lol about Fable having development problems being unplayable and having to be rebooted in Unreal. Jez responds to him saying he “wouldn’t be surprised if this is true”. Chris Dring then replies to Sloth saying it’s not true. Sloth still keeps the tweet up. Then a day later Jez tweets to Sloth “Hard confirmed that this is total lies BTW.” then Sloth decides to delete the tweet  like why signal boost in the first place if you know it wasn’t true.

Here’s an objective report comparing Xbox and PS new-gen first-party output.

https://www.reddit.com/r/XboxSeriesX/comments/13pwl60/ps5xbox_series_xs_first_party_output_since_the/

This report doesn’t declare whether a certain game counts or not for whatever reason, or whether a small game should be compared to a big game. It lacks that kind of subjective context, but I still think the data was interesting.

This is what turned me off about the alleged KOTOR remake when I heard they were going for real time combat. The original combat system was just fine , if anything improve on it but I didn’t ask them to change it. Not to mention just because a game has real time combat doesn’t automatically mean the combat will be good!

FF15 had real time combat foe example and I didn’t care for it too much TBH, for all the shit that FF13 got after it’s release I really enjoyed it’s turn based combat system. Grandia 1 and 2 , best turn based combat IMO.

FF16 may have good combat as it was done by people who worked on Dragon’s Dogma and DMC, but doesn’t sound like something many FF fans wanted out of the game.

I get what you’re saying but sometimes, franchises need to evolve and change. I don’t consider myself a Final Fantasy fan at all but I loved Final Fantasy VII Remake and already have pre-ordered Final Fantasy XVI. The only one I ever played was the original Final Fantasy VII and I hated it. Literally turned it off in 10 minutes. Two reasons - 1) random battles which I despise and 2) turn based combat system.

That combination ends any game for me right off the bat. I don’t know if Dragon Quest XI had random battles or not as once turn based combat was confirmed, I stopped paying attention to the game.

I only want to see Dragon Quest XI go with real time combat because they said that they were going in a more mature oriented direction so that gives me hope that maybe, they’ll have real time combat.

I prefer realistic visuals but it’s not mandatory or anything. Dragon Quest XII can stay like XI visually but for me to get into it, it has to be real time combat and have a voiced protagonist.

The Witcher 3 was my PS4/XBO game of the generation and if Geralt was silent, I can guarantee that it probably wouldn’t have even cracked my top 20 especially for an RPG. As for Cyberpunk 2077, I played as female V and had no issues with the voice acting.

The main reason why I despise silent protagonists is because the story just doesn’t seem to matter or isn’t of any importance because when your character is just standing there nodding while all the NPC’s are talking, it completely takes me out of the game. A silent protagonist kills any intensity and drama when it’s the lead antagonist you’re conversing with. For example, Far Cry 5 has a great antagonist but he’s completely wasted because your character is silent.

Even in Far Cry 3/4, I would say that the protagonist voice acting is average at best but even then, I will still take that over silence because again, it just kills the story for me personally.

Haha. I get what you mean in regards to Dragon Quest but im pretty certain they said that they will be going in a more adult oriented direction for XII.

KOTOR Remake rumored to have a similar combat system to Final Fantasy VII Remake is what made me hyped for the game. lol

FF XVI having DMC style combat is one of the main reasons why it’s day one for me. M rated, darker and time period are the other reasons. If it was turn based, it would be an easy pass. Of course, I don’t consider myself an FF fan whatsoever and have no attachment to the franchise whatsoever so that definitely plays into why I loved FFVIIR and am hyped for XVI.

Marvelous showcase has been dated. Another showcase to look forward to after Sony’s . I think Marvelous’s only currently announced upcoming games are Loop8 and Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life (both of which are announced for Xbox by the way, unfortunately I can’t say either interest me). Hopefully we see something cool for Xbox announced here.

I just didn’t like the delivery for a lot Geralt’s line, and the super scratchy voice didn’t make it any better for me. CP2077 I played as male V and a lot of the delivery wasn’t to my liking, there was some really good stuff though, and I didn’t find the voice used to be bad.

But overall what I want is the option to have either a silent or voiced protagonist, with the voiced part of it to be a selection of at least 3 to 4 different people for both male and female options.

Yeah, Geralt’s voice is definitely scratchy. lol. You should have tried female V in Cyberpunk 2077 to see if that was more to your liking.

I don’t see games having 3+ different voice actors for male and female protagonists due to the fact that I doubt publishers would want to pay for all those voice actors. The games that let you change the sound of the protagonist like Hogwarts Legacy is just a different tone/pitch as opposed to a different voice actor.

I ideally prefer a preset protagonist with full voice acting. If anything, for those who prefer silent protagonists, games should offer a “mute protagonist” option. That way if you don’t like the voice, you just mute him/her.

There are many talented voice actors that can perform multiple different voices/accents. They don’t need to pay 6-8 people if they can pay that one person to do so, while accomidating for the time and the type of strain it could take on that person’s voice.

This Dee Bradley Baker vid of him breaking down his clone troopers voices is a pretty good example.

Dragon quest with real time combat, will kill the identity of the franchise. Heck no. You can still innovate while being turn based. Shin megami tensei does it.

I doubt SE is crazy enough to make the game anything else than turn based, that would be sacrilegious for something like DQ, especially in the Japanese market where this franchise is so popular. I honestly cannot see it happening.

Is anyone familiar with streaming on the Xbox? Is there an option to do so through the OS like PlayStation or does it need to be through an app? Is streaming limited to Twitch or can you use other providers? I thought there was a way to stream right from the OS at one point.

Happy birthday Knottian!!
