Grubb is saying the PS5 showcase is going to happen before Pope Dorito’s SGF. This is very interesting, for quite a few reasons:

  • Do they show-off timed exclusives for bigger franchises? Sony are very big on timed exclusives and this is supposed to be their big showcase, and the timing could be very awkward.

  • Does Bungie show up? If so, they already stated their next game is multiplatform, and if not, people are going to ask where are they. Interesting via both scenarios.

  • Do they waste a timeslot on PSVR2? If so, a significant amount of people do not care about VR, and if not, we already have reports about it not doing too hot out the gate and people are going to ask questions. Also a “both interesting” scenario.

  • Do they announce the rumored PS5 Pro when we have barely even seen a game put out even close to the true power of current consoles? When PS5 and XSX are still hard to find for some people? When people have recently spent $1k on scalped big boi OG PS5’s? When it’s likely to retail starting at $599, and that’s on the low end of prices of specs are of a worthy upgrade? Do they really do this to beat Microsoft on the “power” narrative for a year?

  • Do they advertise PC ports, which is the direction they seem to be heading? Very interesting times if we see PC heavily advertised at a Sony showcase, but if not, then oooof.

  • The next big showcase (so, this one) is supposed to mark the “second phase” of the PS5 generation. That’s… quite a lot to live up to and they also have been quiet for way too long so this needs to live up to the hype, or else.

Interesting times ahead, for sure. If they’d just announce a Bloodborne remaster for PS5/PC then I’m sure all would be forgiven, though.
