Lots of Nintendo-weirdos here I see

This is the kind of talk that got me to buy a Switch, and it was such a letdown. With 0 nostalgic connection to Nintendo, it was all very “meh”. A very expensive “meh” I might add. BOTW has to be one of the most overhyped games in existence?

Outside of the so called Best games of All Time, what’s so good? The crap online services? Or is it the amazing drifting joycons? Or perhaps the gimmicks like playing with cardboard? Or is it the hardware which is outperformed by my microwave?

Watching people freak out (let alone even care) about which characters come to Smash is the perfect image of a Nintendo fan, to me. The game sucks, the online sucks, but it is still treated religiously. I don’t get it.

Now, to each their own and all that. People enjoy all sorts of weird stuff, and it doesn’t harm anyone. It’s a great “first console” for kids, definitely. But I will never understand this.

It’s not for you, that’s ok. I love the Switch, I love what it provides that Xbox/PS don’t. I love Nintendo’s games and their creativity. Zelda is my favorite franchise. I grew up playing NES (and old PC/Mac games lol) so my view is skewed I suppose but nobody does it as well as Nintendo.

Here we go with the “kids games” talk.

Nintendo generally (but not always) make games for everyone dude. From young children to grandparents & everybody in between.

& Immortals is not a Zelda game with a different main character. It’s a Ubisoft game kinda trying to be a Zelda game. Which is why it got 7 out of 10. Because nobody else can capture & recreate that Zelda magic. Least of all bloody Ubisoft

Yeah, the term “kids games” that is often thrown around - especially in relation to things that are either colourful or lack explicit violence - is really dumb. Just because a game isn’t hyper realistic, or lack certain complexity, does not automatically make it “for kids”.

I would even go so far as to say that games striving for realism - in the sense of its graphical representation - while at the same time wallow in blood and gore, are more “childish” than any of the so called “kids games”.

Just because a game has an age rating of teen or mature does not mean that the game itself is “mature”, neither does it mean that games with a rating of everyone entail that it is aimed specifically for kids.

Would people who love good programming cock a snook at Lord Clarkes “Civilisation” as being a “kids show” or that its not mature as its exempt from classification?

The switch is just an absolute monster sales wise but hard to call it the best console of all time when most of the big third party publishers and games just ignore it.

Switch is like a great companion console if thats what you want (to me at least and even then its 3rd fiddle).

…tle to me. In fact I’ll be honest, I find a lot of “visual showcase” games to have obnoxiously busy visual styles these days. It gets to me at times. There’s far too much noise on screen with a lot of modern games. Incidentally, this is a reason why I’m very happy with 343 & their decision to go back to a simpler, less busy design with Infinite. Bring that on, I say. Anyway. Breath of the Wild, for example, is a gorgeous game to look at. It has a simple, clean, colourful style that is just lovely. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll happily take a Switch upgrade but I’m not sat here with a sad face on because the current model doesn’t take full advantage of my 4K TV. The games look great & are just too much fun for me to care. Edit: removed a mistaken claim about Breath of the Wild’s framerate.

I agree that games like Mario Oddysey, Donkey Kong, Mario Kart etc look fine on a OLED. But once I checked out Xenoblade I immediately noticed how blurry it was. It was doable portable, but I don’t do that. So for a game like that with a gigantic open world a new Switch can hopefully do wonder.

BOTW too, it can look amazing in terms of clean, crisp visuals with little to no aliasing but you won’t get that on the current Switch.

I think at this point, Nintendo have proven that they don’t actually need a lot of the “big” 3rd parties to succeed. Look at the Wii, DS & 3DS. Juggernauts. Without any real help from most of those “big” 3rd parties.

But to be fair the Switch has probably had the best 3rd party support of any Nintendo console in a long, long time. Hoping for titles like Doom or Diablo on Nintendo hardware would seem like a fever dream only a few short years ago, then it happened.

“Best” console of all time is completely subjective (for me it’s the 360) but best selling is easy. It’s just down to the number of units sold & the Switch could very well take that crown.

Main issue with the switch for me is “where are the actual new games” from their IP’s and not ports/lazy remakes since like 2018. I dont wanna pay for these Mario ports, Link’s awakening is a though sell for me even tho it looks nice, Dont like musou’s so Age of Calamity is a skip and Animal Crossing is a type of game I absolutely dont care about.

I bought smash day 1 and Ive only played it like 4 times

Most 3rd party devs have this mindset that their games will not sell on the switch bethseda took the plunge early on and their games took off on switch you get every doom game basically on switch I never saw that coming I bought every single doom game on switch except for eternal since I already have it on Xbox and games like that can prove if devs even attempt to do the ports right people will buy them
