XboxEra Community Hangout |OT| Safe Space no longer required (Part 1)

Japanese games aren’t important to gain ground in the Japanese market, but to provide more variety for your platform in other larger markets. Xbox missing Japanese games makes other platforms much more appealing to a portion of “gamers” (mostly the more core group). To be able to secure these games can help remove the idea that Nintendo/Sony are the defaults to play the largest variety of games. I would probably not have bought a PS5 this gen, but I can’t be sure that these games will come to Xbox/PC (or Switch) so it’s a “necessity”.

I wouldn’t say surpassing but definitely rising in popularity. Thought I have to wonder how many Yakuza games you can make before it becomes stale? Given that time for me to get back on Jakuza Zero

Sega is an odd one, while we have Yakuza, Valkyrie and Phantasy Star, all fitting within that niche, we aren’t getting a whiff of anything Atlus related.

Persona 5 almost certainly has been heavily moneyhatted by Sony, but 5 Strikers and 4 Golden releasing on “everything but Xbox” is frustrating.

In fact, on the grander scale, this scenario isn’t really happening elsewhere. Yes, Yakuza isn’t touching Switch, but there’s understandable hardware constraints and Ryu Ga Gotoko remains a very small studio on a tight budget.

Game Pass should provide reasonable cover for the event that these games won’t sell well. In fact, it’s far more safe money than any other option and yet still we aren’t seeing Japan devs commit to Xbox. In fact, Square-Enix after years of equal support, appear to be taking a good few steps back.

Some of this is certainly attributable to Sony’s system of paying companies for (timed) exclusivity - an outdated and horribly anti-consumer practice their legion of warriors refuse to denounce. But that’s just the beginning, isn’t it?

You’re telling me Microsoft are being out-muscled, bullied even, in this market? Something seriously doesn’t add up here and as much as I don’t want to admit it, it’s probably got a racist core.

:grinning:

this one was announced on Nintendo Direct and is coming to Xbox.

is from a Japanese studio/publisher.

When some of the biggest names in the Halo community themselves say shit like this I don’t know. These are also some of the same people asking for Halo Infinite to dump the xbox one version btw. But lol, no it should come to switch as well, which is obviously superior hardware.

Square strikes me as a company that takes money for the short term success but never thinks about things in the long term. We seen that with Rise of The Tomb Raider, FF7 remake, Marvel Avengers Spiderman dlc and so on. Maybe Squares financials are so great so they feel like taking these deals keeps them afloat.

what’s the damn use of making xcloud for android and iOS then if you’re just gonna put it on a switch anyway? Isn’t Xcloud supposed to do the thing Switch does but off the cloud? But no, put it on a switch where they get to play Halo AND Mario and Zelda and Fire Emblem and so on while people keep parroting “Xbox has no exclusives” and xbox keeps losing its power. It’s not a positive that Switch isn’t a competitor to Xbox, it’s in fact that exact reason why Nintendo is able to get away with so much shit, because they have no competition. But no, let’s further reinforce that. Characters in Smash is fine, Chief SHOULD be on Smash, it’s something beyond platforms, basically like Minecraft. But putting whole ass Halo games on Nintendo, what the fuck.

These comments come off as so ignorant it’s just baffling.

Anybody else a little surprised that Sony has caught exactly 0 flak for calling Ratchet and Clank a ‘launch window title’ and then releasing it in June? 7 months after console launch?

Pandemic etc etc, but they made that announcement during the pandemic.

Just like the God Of War announcement for 2021 it really feels like Sony intentionally over-promised with their release dates to fuel ‘Xbox vs PlayStation 2021 lists’.

Sadly the halo community on twitter and youtube is full of shitty takes. Sometimes I think they want their favorite game to fail

boring discussion… but im still waiting for Mario or Zelda Botw on Game Pass, also waiting Ratchet Clank on Switch, right. because Switch does not compete with Sony and MS. :grimacing: :+1:

Funnily enough, I think there’s a good chance the Cemu emulator for WiiU and Yuzu for Switch shall be possible to run on Xbox in developer mode in the coming years, just like the other emulators already working on it. So yeah, within this generation, there will be a possibility of playing Zelda BotW, Mario Odyssey, etc on an Xbox. And it’s not illegal btw, emulation is perfectly legal, just pirating the games themselves isn’t, but you can own the copy of it on switch and use the codes to emulate it… on an Xbox AND run better than they do on the Switch at higher framerates and resolution. You can already do this on PC, but doing it on an xbox is gonna be chef’s kiss

I can’t wait for the absolute meltdowns when that happens lmao.

this discussion whether or not an XGS game goes to another “competing” device, etc. has a lot to do with this tweets from Klobrille.

this is tiring…

LOL

Quite amusing, really.

(Halo followers are a class unto themselves. If Xbox does buy Bungie expect more crazy fans there. There is something about Bungie and their games that invites super over the top passionate fans.)

PC, Xbox and Xcloud are first class citizens as a part of thr xbox ecosystem. Even Phil has said that they might have created a wrong expectation by releasing cuphead and Ori on Switch. Primarily due to Mdhr and moon insisting on it.

I don’t think they’ll release non MMO stuff everywhere. However, if you separate the multi-player part of Halo which will be F2P, you open up interesting interpretations. Last week’s ‘You had me at Halo’ debated this topic with Shpeshal_ed being the chief instigator.

I bring it up because i keep seeing people talk about how Xbox needs a studio in Japan. Having a studio in Japan is not going to solve the problem of missing third party games.

Exactly. It’s not like Sony has many Japanese studios.

Any German pleb who could not get a wireless headsets here you go

So far my only fear is that the headset is too small for my ears.

Indeed. The only benefit to owning Japanese studios is for Xbox to have its own developed Japanese-oriented content. If that content somehow gains an audience worldwide, perhaps it might inspire third parties to release games on Xbox. Bottom line, it’s about global market share and profit that can be obtained from the Xbox platform for Japanese (and other) developers/publishers.
