I guess I picked the perfect time to fall in love with Yakuza.

Noctis and Prompto are my boys, but Majima is roommate material.

You can play the same on old wii for much less. Is it at least 60 fps?

Nor argument the Mario 3d Collection was a better value than this… I’m fine paying 60 for two or three old classics… but one? No.

I played SS on wii at the end of last year and I love this game it looks still great on the wii or even wii u. This HD is it really not worth it.

Series X and LG CX combo hit me again with the “Invalid Format” shit in the middle of an online game. So tired of this nonsense that neither xbox nor lg have addressed.

I’ve been saying for a while, this isn’t Xbox, this is something with all the OLED manufacturers and their pisspoor implementation of HDMI2.1.

Source: me, I have three Xbox Series consoles and one is on a brand new OLED that does this same thing, and two others on Samsungs (one of which is has 2.1 without issues).

The TVs this year all around should handle the new systems better

Its infuriating man. Its constant issues on both the xbox and ps5.

It really is, and I feel for you too man. When my wife and I play, I give her the OLED because it’s hooked up to the Home Xbox, and it will occasionally also “drop” HDR. So we’ll be playing Sea of Thieves and all the sudden her HDR is gone and she complains she can’t see anything because it’s too dark (it is). The only way to fix it is to quit the game and relaunch it, forcing the TV to create a new handshake… it’s absurd and none of the OLEDs should be having this issue considering how much they cost, and the fact that other 2.1 equipped manufacturers ironed out their issues months ago.

All this FF talk makes me appreciate how SEGA have taken the leap with the Yakuza franchise on Gamepass and have gone all in.

It is clear to see how Yakuza has gotten a big boost, almost taking the franchise to new heights and then you have SE which is still treating other platforms poorly, by just releasing their franchise on PS they are just making it more niche.

If the next couple of entries of the Yakuza franchise are received well it wouldn’t surprise me if they surpass FF in sales and popularity.

Hot Take:

Anyone else feel like people overestimate the importance of Japanese games? With the exception of Nintendo and a couple heavy hitters (like FF and RE), western games dominate the market.

I remember the days where japanese companies dominated. Times have changed and so has their impact on the market.

Just some thoughts on SquareEnix

Not too long ago Sony owned a small stake in SE, so I’m sure they still have some legacy hooks in them somewhere. Also Sony pays for exclusivity on these games to help keep their identity as the console for Japanese games without actually having to focus on Japanese games themselves. I’d imagine it isn’t that expensive to keep games off Xbox, some money upfront, waive the 30% cut, etc… With no Xbox development costs FF16 for example will likely return a nice profit for SE with less risk. This comes at the cost of more widespread popularity, but SE may be okay with that.

Japanese games dominated the market in the 90’s, then Western games did in the 360 era, and in this last generation we found a balance. A balance that Xbox lacks.

slight correction id Software dominated the 90s.

Pretty much agree. Japanese Games are important but only to an extent, majority of them are niche and simply don’t have a massive following. Japanese Games also sell better in the West then they do in their homeland which tells you everything that you need to know.

As you mentioned, outside of Nintendo and a few heavy hitters like Final Fantasy, Resident Evil and Monster Hunter, majority of them simply don’t hit.
