Xbox version of Gal Gun Returns cancelled thanks to the Certification Team

I understand even I have stuff that strikes me the wrong way, sometimes it’s better to move on with certain subjects.

At least we can be nice, while disagreeing

Microsoft is one of the biggest companies in the world. As such, it doesn’t and it shouldn’t base its decisions by how other companies handle the subject. Microsoft couldn’t care less about what Steam or Nintendo is selling on their storefronts. Microsoft cares about its own ecosystem, and it doesn’t want a game like Gal Gun.

See, it is not that Microsoft has a problem with mature content or, to be more specific, women dressed in sexy outfits. There’s been enough examples of Xbox games that meet this criteria on this thread. But Microsoft does have a problem with school girls being sexualized. And, in my opinion, rightfully so.

lol

Sure, all this discussion about underage sexualization is because we are not interested in the game.

Edit: I make @Doncabesa’s words my own. Thanks @Opatschi for keeping it cordial and contributing to a healthy discussion.

One thing I would like to add is that I think the striking part is some people grow up with anime like me and are used to this side of the medium (note there is plenty masterpiece stuff too) and as such we don’t have a problem with this.

Even Naruto has some of these tropes now that I think of…

I have a female friend who loves this ecchi stuff (for the better or worse) yet she wouldn’t want to be seen as a sexobject like in SOME of these shows. Thought most of the time the protagonist is a whining person. Which is the total opposite of a person that want to dominate.

Are we bad humans or have a wrong perception of things because of this? Mostlikely no.

I think this is where this hard cliff is where we all disagree on. The one side kinda accept it (me and others gere) and the others are disgusted by it.

With that I have contributed anything I wanted to this thread be well

Always. I think this can only be discussed in a mannered way. Since is such a popularizing topic.

I explained myself as good as possible. Thought I think people tend to make a quick post on those “weirdos” or “anime hater”. It’s hard to try understand others positions if you think you are right.

Thanks for the editing button

Oh, just to make myself clear: I grew up with Anime aswell. To be honest, most of it was the mainstream Animes that were broadcasted on my country when I was younger. Saint Seiya, Dragon Ball, Pokémon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh, Sakura Card Captors, Hamtaro, Sailor Moon…

I loved them all and I even had many action figures and trading cards, even as a grown man.

I do not have a problem with etchi. Hell, I can even understand the appeal for hentai. My problem is specifically about the elementary school girls models used in Gal Gun – which you seem to also have a bit of problem aswell. And I’m not talking about 20 years old girls (like the teacher from the anime you mentioned earlier on the thread), but those 12 years old looking girls.

I say this because we seem to agree on the subject, but in a manner it also seems that me and some other users are criticizing anime in general – which is not the case. One of my favorite games of all time is Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and we all know how Mythra and Pyra look :stuck_out_tongue:

To be fair the majority of the girls in the game are looking older than that  yeah no that was a general point I wanted to make. Some of us accept it and others despise it that’s the difference I think…

Xenoblade Chronicles 1/2 are masterpieces no JRPG comes anywhere close to it. :eyes:

How hard would it have been to make this damn game about 18-year-olds? Done. Problem solved. Hell, you could even keep them as high school girls then too, if that’s important to the weirdos.

It should take place in a Senior’s Long Term Care facility. Get some sponsorship from Viagra or something.

In your opinion, but that opinion doesn’t hold to everyone (and your opinion is different than the law in some places).

I did have to do a spit take when he said “anime (content) is real”. Yes I see where he’s coming from with his argument and he is entitled to his opinion, but that was just too funny. Also if Xbox were to rigorously follow that philosophy, it would mean never getting actually great games such as Disgaea (Etna being the major reason here lol). I really don’t think everyone who plays Disgaea is a “pedophile” lol.

Let me get this straight… in your opinion it is okay to sexualize someone who looks like a 6th grader, as long as it is supposedly a 1000 years old witch or something like that?

I mean, I’d like to know why we’re pulling “6th graders” into the discussion when Gal*Gun (the game this thread is about) doesn’t go THAT far. I would also say that anime “people” don’t count as “someone”. Drawings and pixels should never be an illegal thing. Unless, of course, they actually traced/modeled it after a real life child. THEN send that person right to jail.

Agreed. As I’ve said before I have no interest in this game, but that doesn’t make it the same as sexual assault of a minor like some people here are saying (since, you know, they’re not real people).

No, in my opinion it’s an anime character and therefore doesn’t have an age, so I don’t care. It’s not hurting anyone.

Again, agreed.

Source please on who said that.

I read through this thread with a mixture of bemusement and confusion.

I don’t really follow anime in any fashion to have an opinion on this release, or rather, it’s cancellation - but it’s clear to me this thread is going down a rabbit hole I’d rather not head down. I won’t close it, as the discussion is fairly level-headed …so far.

Keep the thread on topic to the game in question - Moderators are watching.

Well, regarding the series itself. I’ve decided to buy Gal Gun Double Peace on the Steam sale for 5 bucks while I wait for my Switch copy of Returns, and this is actually a very hilarious parody of the light gun genre! There’s this part in the first level where you’re on a bridge with girls running at you from both sides. The camera quickly pans between both sides giving you a split second to shoot at them, before the game then proceeds with the character jumping off the bridge to escape! The things they are doing with the on rails camera are really funny and the one actual cutscene I’ve seen so far had really expressive animation almost right from a comedy anime. I actually think this is far too bizarre and comedic to even be classified as a “porn game”. I’m sure someone out there has managed to “get their jollies” to this game but to me I think you’d need to be pretty damn desperate.

Oof, that’s what I get for replying at 2 in the morning. Apologies, I’ll go edit that comment.

I’m so fucking disappointed. Seems like Xbox is never gonna be a thing with japanese devs. It breaks my heart.
