Xbox version of Gal Gun Returns cancelled thanks to the Certification Team

There is a reeaaaally big difference between regular and sexualized Anime looking girls to the girls in Gal Gun. Xenoblade, for example, is fine. I do have a problem with the over-sexualization of female characters, but yeah, that’s what it is. And there is actually a game surrounding those characters (one of the best games out there in my opinion, by the way). Gal Gun on the other hand is sexualizing elementary school girls, and one of its features is peaking under their skirts.

Not all anime revolves around a protagonist who molests 15yo girls against their will with a pheromone gun.

I mean, it’s not hard to see why MS might have had an issue with a game where you score bonus love points by shooting underage girls in the genitals.

MS doesn’t have a problem with sexy anime girls it’s just young looking girls.

DOA has ton’s of skimpy outfits but they all look over age so it’s fine, it’s not about sexy adult anime girls it’s underage looking girls.

Lots of very disingenuous reactions here. Everyone can guess the issue with this game. And it not making it on Xbox is pretty obvious. Saying Nintendo allow it is not cutting it at all. Frankly for me stuff like this can stay away from Xbox.

In 2020 in the Western world I just don’t think you can have this.

Who cares ?

Of cause Gal Gun is a shameless game. Yet I would see no problem in releasing this game. However I understand Microsoft’s decision to not allow it.

The reason why I’m fine with it is because it’s extremely fictional content. A high schoolboy shooting girls with a stimulating gun because they try to confess to him… and angels and stuff

Yeah I see no argument how this could effect anyone in a bad way. Besides this game is niche niche niche. It’s not like this game would sell million copies or so.

Is this disgusting for many? Yes probably. Is it problematic? No.

At first, I thought it was a game where you only had to shoot girls with a water gun, but the trailer shows you do a bit more than that, and the girls are under-aged. It seems to be the limit ( understandably so ) that MS is not willing to cross. I mean, they are not censoring nudity or a bit of skin when it comes to adult women ( best example being DMC 5 where Sony censored it ).

I guess MS asked the developer to maybe redo the characters so that they look and are adults, and I think it would have passed. That could also explain why the developers said it would go against the original vision or maybe they didn’t have the budget or time to do it.

There is just no room for underage girls with even a hint of sexual content in video games in 2020. It just can’t, won’t and mustn’t happen. Xbox has a duty of care on this and any company that allows it has to answer those questions. Yes it’s niche and yes in all likelihood it makes no difference but that’s not the point. This sort of culture needs to die because it’s just not acceptable to the majority of the audience anymore.

I don’t think this is quite the damning statement you think it is…

I think this discussion wont change either yours or my mind. Let’s leave it at that😐

I usually try to buy games on Xbox that would have skipped the console unless someone stepped in to get it ported (Yakuza, KH Collection, DQXI, etc) because I don’t want these games skipping Xbox anymore.

With that being said I would have given this game a hard pass. The game’s definitely for… A certain kind of person but not for me

I’m not sure many actually care about this game. The issue is more about the loss of being a “censorship free” platform that could potentially attract more “ecchi” games and that audience. The idea being that audience would also get us more normal anime-styled games with broader appeal.

For the record I like anime and ecchi stuff so this game isn’t all that appalling to me personally, but I definitely can see the issues with it. The game is exactly what it appears to be and there is potential for more harm and controversy than good coming from it, so it is best to just let it go.

You don’t see how a game about a high school student sexually assaulting female high school students could effect someone in a bad way?

This is the place where they have women only train cars available to prevent groping.

In the reality this wont affect anyone and besides in the Japanese market there is a lot junk and research shows how this does not really effect anyone there. If we took anything at face value Japan has to be overflowed by pedophile attacks which is not the case. In fact they have one of the lowest harassment rate.

For sure you can be disgust by it and anyone in reality should be ashamed to think this would be right but yet this is all extremely fictional content and therefore not problematic.

If this is problematic a entire anime genre should be banned. Is this the right thing to do?

Anyways as a private company MS has the rights to do what they want. Even nudity screencaps from other games could get you banned. So it is not surprising this game takes it to far in Microsofts opinion.

I’m not an expert but i find this hard to believe. I would not be suprised if it was more prevalent than the numbers suggest (perhaps due to lack of reporting) but I’ll just leave it alone rather than do the research.

Source is the world health organisation.

Japan has a problem with gender equality due to their traditional culture but sexual harassment is not a problem. (In a big way, sexual harassment is a problem around the world but factors and reasons are varied)

How representative this study is I don’t know.

Japan is an interesting country culturally. People don’t like to stand out and it’s impossible to gauge how many people actually report being sexually harassed/assaulted. The other problem is what qualifies as harassment for one culture might not qualify for another.

To me, a lot of these conversations are more philosophical in nature and are inherently tainted by our own culture/perspective.

Very true. In the Japanese culture fictional violence is a way bigger problem opposed to sexual subjects with characters below 18.

Resident Evil 7 was censored.

And even between Germany and USA are differences in what is appropriate to be shown at what age.

Microsoft it’s a American company and therefore it is understandable that this game got cancelled.

Exactly. And to be fair, we don’t actually know why the game was cancelled. We’re all just making an educated guess based on the content of the game, but it could have been something else entirely.

I can tell you the switch version of this game will be rated 16 in Germany like most ecchi anime here😅 as long as there is no porn involved. Everything even with nudity would be rated 16. As this game is actually intended for teens…

Skyrim was rated 16 cause it’s grounded in fantasy. Game of thrones is also rated 16 even with sex scenes. Only the most violence episodes gave it a 18 rating.

But I will leave it at that  regardless was interesting to chat about it
