Makes sense since I don’t think they are really sending out a lot of hardware. I’ve been reading that the consoles are not in stock in a lot of places/countries.
No, they are not…
No they are not sending out consoles or no they are not out of stock in places?
The big missed opportunity was not having Minecraft Special Edition Xbox and Minecraft controller.
I mentioned this in a question to the podcast and That could have been one of many things:
- trailer for Minecraft special edition Xbox (having a skin that makes the X and S look like they’re made from Minecraft blocks would have made perfect sense) and controller.
- trailer for Game Pass educating tens of millions of parents on an affordable way to play video games in a time where money is tight
- in-movie product placement. A ton of kids grew up with Minecraft on the 360. A 360 with the controller could have been in the retro game store.
- the fake Minecraft movie video game featured in the final scenes of the movie could have been released on the Xbox and Game Pass as a free game. Kids who want everything Minecraft would have begged their parents for and Xbox to play it.
When it comes to a hardware sales I feel like Microsoft’s not even trying. There may be reasons that make perfect sense that are just unknown to us.
No, they are not sending out consoles.
Newcomer here to the site. Gonna add a bit of my take on this.
Overall i think its good that most of the revenue is up and adam. But i can’t feel much content at looking and seeing just how much the hardware side is declining over the last two to three years.
Mostly cause i enjoy the hardware that i have and wished xbox gave it more of a chance, but thats my personal opinion and bias.
Although i do have to wonder if the supposed pc handheld would take part in that area once we actually get official news on the subject from the horses mouth in some way. If so, i do wonder how its going to be marketed, would Asus be the only one making the marketing stratregies or would Xbox actually put effort in this as they do with gamepass.
Those are my two cents on the matter. I apologies if any of this came across as rude.
They need to find a way to sell more consoles…
You act like they’re trying to, I think it’s pretty clear that they’re not.
On that we definitely agree, I do not think they’re trying at all, and it’s not a recent thing, I remember when they raised the price of the very popular Series S in Brazil, basically giving that market who loved that little cheap console the middle finger, I don’t know what they think they will achieve from this in the end, no Xbox hardware means Game Pass will only exist on PC… I guess we’ll see, now this new price raise is probably due to the tariffs more than anything else but we’ll see.
I think we might be too focused on console sales not to blame anyone because maybe even Sony is too. Console sales used to be the only indicator of how many people were in your ecosystem and thus the potential for sale of accessories, subscriptions, games from both sides, 3rd party sellers too. Isn’t that the main reason we’ve been tracking console sales? We want to know if 3rd parties are going skip releasing games into “our” ecosystem. Yet, Xbox the ecosystem has been seeing more games including niche ones despite the lesser console sales. Isn’t that the important thing?
With next gen approaching, who knows how expensive consoles and PC (video cards) will be. MS is now a steward to multiple developers so they have an obligation to keep these studios running and not just to use them to prop up traditional Xbox.
The ABK deal out pay to that. Now, rather than wanting to look to give SONY competition, Xbox wants to play the victim card.
I would much rather learn how much Net profit the Xbox group is making, rather than hiding behind revenue all the time
“play the victim”? what are you talking about, and why should any of us care what their net profit is when they’re a trillion dollar company overall.
They are a business, It was so cheap because they took a loss on it. Not taking as big of a loss any more isn’t a middle finger. Especially in a country where they almost certainly have less to gain per console sold. It’s nice they had it disproportionately cheap while they did.
Future console hardware will probably no longer be subsidized. Nintendo hasn’t done it in decades, Sony Didn’t do it with the PS4 Pro, and reeaaaaly aren’t doing it with the PS5 Pro. MS is no longer looking to do it with SX and SS, which makes sense, why invest in a 5 year old console?
Don’t think they’re looking for one at the moment. At the moment they’re quite rare in Italy where I live and online retails are almost the only way to get a new console
Xbox console sales will continue to decline. They must find a way to maintain growth while losing revenue from the store and hardware. The move to multiplatform and the acquisition of new studios and publishers should allow them to stay the course. This is a key moment for Xbox, and 2025 will be an incredible year that should convince shareholders to continue investing in the brand.
I’d be a little in investors still need more convincing, thought the move to multi platform would be enough…
I think it is okay to think MS has conceded this generation, I mean Nintendo did it with the WiiU and Gamecube right? Series has sold better than both of those consoles too. It’s not like those consoles ended Nintendo. They just regrouped and moved forward. This is all MS has to do with the next Xbox.
Who knows what will happen. Trump just put a tariff on movies not made in America, might as well prep for the tariff on the video games themselves next… and don’t go posting that elsewhere and let the idea get back to him somehow.
