What I find curious is how you cater to those that have bought into the ecosystem through a series s
If the vast majority of game pass subs are console based. Apparently 50% of the Xbox sales are series S that aren’t your big spending console users and likely an awful lot of them won’t be interested in handheld gaming or PC gaming
So if Xbox aren’t willing to subsidise a console anymore and the price is going to shoot up, how do you keep them.
Are they willing to let them go to PlayStation and just buy the odd game and make the money through game sales
Pretty sure it’s been stated that console is the driver of gamepass Nick also stated that on the podcast.
I’m also sure it’s been stated that the S and X are 50/50.
So a large portion of Xbox users have been entering at the series S entry point.
If the consoles do rise in price what will they do to incentivise those users to part with the extra cost to upgrade.
You may say maybe they’ll be happy with them staying on series s but that’s if that person would be willing to stay with Xbox and not think I’ll go to PlayStation as it’s cheaper and still the bigger console brand.
I think one aspect that is missing is the future is trending towards the elimination of the walled garden hardware by regulators. It really hasn’t come up much since the EPIC vs Apple fight hasn’t been in the media, but eventually locked to one store hardware will be going away, it’s only a matter of time. First it’s going to be Apple and Android phones, other companies will be able to put their own stores on these phones and bypass the Apple/Android cut. If that happens consoles will be next, and Xbox will be able to put an “Xbox Store” on Playstation and vise versa. This is part of the reason Xbox is going this direction, hardware+exclusivity may be toast no matter what. Playstation who has the most to lose if this happens will be hard pressed to fight it considering all of what they said in the Activision case can be used against them.
People are worried about their platform/purchases because we’re in the start of a massive transition. I do not fault anyone who has those concerns. It’s a mix of scary/exciting. If they pull it off it could be better for customers than ever. If they fail then what does that mean for those of us with so much time/money invested in our software library?
Given how Xbox built an all new software based BC program from scratch and you can literally boot up games and game saves from nearly 20 years ago and it just worked I just do not see WHY people are so worried about this with MS?
MS is the only platform holder to actually put in REAL effort to make sure your old console library works going forward but for some reason it’s a worry only for Xbox?
This makes no sense. With Xbox you should have the MOST confidence about your purchases going forward regardless of what hardware those games and services may be used on.
Sony and Nintendo have recently wiped their slate clean and started over with carrying BC over, MS is the only one that went out of its way to bring the old stuff forward and made it even better then when it launched and now they even have a dedicated division to bring the eco system forward.
Why don’t these worried people ever give Xbox credit for respecting your purchase?
Nintendo will wipe BC on a whim and Sony will hold it back so they can re charge you again for remasters. Xbox is the one doing this right.
It probably won’t happen but the next gen Xbox needs to use an Nvidia GPU. Sarah had talked about this new console being the largest technical leap and Phil says they want to win on capability. DLSS4 and multi frame gen is how you do it. Throw in Steam support and you’re the de facto best place to play in the console space.
PlayStation just released a 700 dollar plus console so I’m not sure how they’re supposed to release a NextGen console cheaper if it is supposed to be much better and based on real and proven AI performance. Most things today are paid for in installments so who knows they could ramp up a program similar to phone plans or push the Xbox all access to overdrive.
I don’t understand why most here are quick to input PlayStation as if it’s a better choice in any way, it’s not that is the prognosis I see here.
Agreed they are always so ready to run into the hands of a company that has no BC for their games. They’re very quick to drop their entire history to start afresh on a console that is not even guaranteed a future. It boggles the mind. I think most of these gamers are just hard to please and maybe not really Xbox gamers in the first place.
I don’t know if it’s correct but right now the Xbox store has 12623 games Browse all games | Xbox while it says the PlayStation store has about 4000. A good chance this is probably due to back compart games added. Xbox has over 1400 Play Any Where games, offers discount on Game pass games and has features like Quick resume and smart delivery.
If anything, I think Xbox has shown their stance better in the gaming industry than both Sony and Nintendo.
Isn’t that the case for every console device though? It’s being developed now, but stuff will eventually start leaking, and then it’ll be revealed, and everybody will know!
My point was what they have introduced or innovated with in gaming have been really amazing which makes me believe what comes next will equally be as good. You don’t know how good quick resume is until you don’t have it.
Hardware is good and all but it needs to have great games from ALL publishers and studios it can get their hands on, Square Enix , Sega, EA, 505 Games, 11bit studios and now Koei Tecmo are looking to be some of the publishers who see this vision coming to light.
Sony is not on this and its constantly trying to moneyhat everything they can get to kill their competitor and become the dominant place for games to sell on hardware.
I would be down for a hardware that allows me to access games from Nintendo via Emulators as well as the plan to purchase Playstation games on an Xbox.
The money hats have dried up as even Square has seen their IP’s diminish being tied to Sony only consoles.
That is as good of evidence as any that Sony can’t keep things isolated to only one hardware platform, if 3rd parties are seeing this certainly Sony see’s it as well.
Also I still see in other places Sony fans are in complete denial of the game drought from Sony, Have fun guys cause EVERY studio seemingly was working on GAAS for years and they have all but 2 been scrapped and now the entirety of Sony 1st party has to pivot back to something but all this takes YEARS to turn around.
People always question what Xbox offers and I’d say ALOT more then Sony when Sony is in a self imposed game drought due to stupid decisions.
Remember when people freaked out about Gamepass cause they thought all Xbox studios would be forced to work on GAAS games? It never made sense cause Gamepass was the GAAS itself, but now we know that is exactly what happened to Sony, SP studios were forced to make GAAS games and now that they are mostly cancelled that is simply just wasted time and money. Pretty much everything Sony uses as a bash on Xbox they end up doing the exact same.
So besides those sad dad SP AAA walking sims what exactly is Sony offering up that is unique in gaming?
All I see of them is fleecing their current customers with remasters and remakes, raising prices on services and hardware, launching things like PSVR2 and NOT supporting it and letting it die, for the last 4 years they had the lesser power on console and now they may have the most powerful console but at $700 and with little that actually supports it it’s not exactly needed.
So what is Sony REALLY offering gamers besides the privilege of supporting Sony as a charity?
Sony does not have a good or cohesive eco system, nor anything even close to the value of gamepass, they do not have play anywhere titles and their wishy washy nature on PC ports has left them with no discernable direction other then we know they have to do more of this because of the reality of economics.
Sony might be the best example of a brand offering nothing unique in it’s industry but people still fall over themselves in favor of them for no particular reason other then straight up BRAND LOYALTY, what else are they REALLY offering gamers?
Yeah, I agree. I just found it odd why Hue would expect enthusiasts to know about Xbox’s technological plans right now when we don’t really have anything to go on.
I’m sure we’ll get leaks eventually, but all we can do now is guess. I think it’ll revolve around AI & ML though.
I said previously in this thread or another after they announced the first handful of games going multipeplatofrm that Microsoft is going to release their games on every possible screen they can. Whether that was day one or a timed release, I see that I was correct with that thought.
Really doesn’t change anything though for me. Gamepass is just too good of a deal to pass up. I am currently playing through Yakuza Like a Dragon. I never would have bought that game as I have not been much of a jrpg/turn based combat guy since like Mario RPG on the SNES.
If not for gamepass, I would have never likely played that game. Gamepass for me at least is the selling point of xbox.
That being said, Microsoft/xbox needs to do a better job of making sure the wider audience knows which games are theirs and that their games are available on gamepass. Microsoft’s advertising is just downright s**t.
I think the issue is this game most likely won’t release on xbox. So, it’s not that much of a point because the game is on PS5 and PC, but not xbox. There will be other games like that. So, it still makes PS more intriguing if they’re getting Microsoft games because not many games skip that platform. Plus, the price of entry is cheaper than PC
Again, I think it’s pretty clear that if they’re on “PC” then they’ll be on the next “Xbox”, because it will play every Windows game via steam/epic/gog etc.
