Xbox multi platform discussion

Phil said hardware innovations and Sara has talked about the biggest technological leap ever whatever that is. To me Sara and Jason Ronald that are on this know clearly exclusives is not how their consoles moving forward will sell so I believe they would factor that into what they’re doing. They all seem confident and happy about what they’re working on, and they’ve always come through in building amazing Hardwares. Xbox have been very good in innovating so I trust their handheld and next console will be something very different from what a console of today is. As for now I do think Game Pass is a very compelling reason, also this will be the first time Game Pass is truly tested as it is expected to have a slew of triple A solid games. In 2021 when Game Pass had Halo and Forza the sales were off the charts since then it’s been good but never really amazing with day one games as it will be this year. This might sound conspiratory, but I’ve had this opinion that Xbox haven’t been really interested in selling consoles like many think. They lose 100 to 200 dollars on every console and that would need more than a year of Ultimate sub to subsidize it plus they hardly ever market the Xbox heck they own windows and Edge they could certainly use it in marketing. It’s been said that you can’t even get a series S/X console in Europe and that they’ve pretty much sold out and it’s similar in the U.S. They aren’t pushing or matching Sony in putting out consoles to the stores. So, I just don’t think they are trying that much to sell consoles. I think their push is PC and Cloud which I hear is doing well. I think if the console was profitable, they would be pushing it. So, I think from here on the push will be to have a profitable platform hence the PC push.

The problem with games is that they aren’t selling that much and the ones that seem to be dominating are mainly GAAS games. Even SOT did 1 million on Ps4&5 combined which seems pretty small to me.

I recall taking my phone out once and using the Razor Kishi to play it and people just gathered around me watching even asking what it was. I think by the time this year ends you will have seen the power of Game Pass.

In my opinion from here they will probably start building towards more of pushing all the publishers on this vision of games everywhere. They need to be fine tuning the Play Anywhere initiative have all Xbox games playable on all devices something the competition doesn’t do.

Keep the tone respectful, it’s been a long time since I had to put this thread on slow mode.

“Whatever that is” exactly sums up my point. Xbox enthusiasts don’t know, let alone the general consumer.

Outside of the games themselves I personally don’t have any trust that they will deliver what we want. For all we know the execs could be excited about another Xbox One scenario.

As I said, if their aim is to nudge the Xbox console players to PC but allow players to purchase from Steam/Epic why would they? They will likely just move to PS/Nintendo and if they don’t Steam is the dominant PC store.

Then with regards to attracting new people to Xbox who already have PS/Nintendo - why would they, when they already have access to Xbox games?

Fingers crossed :crossed_fingers:t2: as I think this will be the deciding factor in all of this.

buying them on steam, because of fear of losing the games?

I’ll be playing them through PC/Xbox GamePass .

But games that aren’t on GamePass I’ve been buying on Steam again since March of last year.

clearly cares about Xbox, it’s easier go to pc when you can’t handle internet discussion

Handle internet discussion? I don’t understand where you’re coming from? If anything you seem to be agitated from this discussion.

I have been a life long Xbox fan since the OG Xbox and lived through the Xbone generation where it almost died. Having been through that and and still having no idea about how this latest strategy will work, I don’t see any issue with questioning it.

As a functional adult I will invest my money where I see fit as any consumer should. It just so happens that Steam offers the best value, security and access to games (for me) at this point in time.

you wanted to ms cares more about consoles but never buying anything on xbox store isn’t helping either

They are still getting my money through my subscription? There will be many GamePass customers which have never brought a game on the Windows/Xbox store.

As a consumer I’m not going to blindly spend extra money on something when I don’t have trust in it. It’s their responsibility to convince me as consumer and they haven’t done that, so I see that as their failure.

GamePass still offers me value therefore it makes sense for me to stay subscribed.

You have to agree their marketing and communication has been extremely poor since the Xbone generation especially with their flip flopping strategy.

If they come out tomorrow, clear everything up and it makes sense to me as a consumer then I will buy new Xbox hardware and software, however for me it doesn’t and I’m not in the habit of blinding giving money to a brand so their execs can buy a new holiday home.

As a consumer you speak with your money!

A conveniently timed Brad Sam’s video discussing much of the above.

The DVD analogy doesn’t work for me because nobody buys DVDs anymore and the streaming services all have exclusive content. If Netflix has everything and HBO Max put all their content on Netflix nobody would subscribe to HBO Max lol

The analogy is that “HBO Max is on all hardware”. Xbox wants their games everywhere, and you then pay them to play them. Also, a lot of HBO content is on Netflix, because Netflix paid them for it.

Exactly! It’s like trying to compare cars to bicycles.

Most services/producty rely on a exclusive service/feature as their USP so that’s what they need to clear up for me with this new strategy.

It’s a really clear strategy. Pay us to play our stuff, and our plan is to make our hardware good enough to sell itself. A single box that plays essentially “every” game, because it can also run windows titles, is a unique hardware proposition. We just have to wait and see what that is once they’re ready to announce it.

Is this topic going to go full circle if either a first party Xbox console or OEM Xbox is capable of playing Steam games and therefore has access to “PS exclusives”?

I know everyone’s entitled to their own views on this stuff, but Xbox is delivering arguably its best year of first party content this whole generation, is attracting third party games like Ninja Gaiden and has turned the tide with Final Fantasy games. There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic. Just enjoy the games where you enjoy playing.

I’m not sure if it applies across the board 100%, but you can find movies and TV shows from Disney, HBO Max and Paramount on competing storefronts for sale.

For example, you can find HBO Max’s The Penguin TV series on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV to buy. I can buy Netflix’s Castlevania Nocturne series on other storefronts to buy.

The day it happens is going to be absolutely glorious. Personalities like OhNoItsAlex are going to be working overtime. There is not enough popcorn.

At the beginning of the generation with GamePass and the Xbox Series S, many analysts said that the Xbox would sell more than the PlayStation 5, so what happened?

Welcome, with your first post first post, you’re going on 5 years in the generation. I promise you the information is out there if you actually want to go find it.

Brand loyalty and media propaganda

The Xbox One/PS4 gen was the one about building an ecosystem that you take forward with you. Instead of starting out from zero, we have all our old games going forward with us, Microsoft losing that gen made this one a tougher uphill battle than last gen.

But because of Microsofts use of game pass, they have been making more money, getting more 3rd party support and slowly building towards having Xbox OS becoming their gaming OS across multiple devices.
