, I know it’s all about making money but surely MS has a bit of pride in the building. When PlayStation actively laughs in their face (metaphorically) by scrubbing Xbox from any marketing while Xbox will promote PlayStation
Xbox won’t even put the Xbox splash screen on the games they send over there whilst PlayStation won’t take the PS logo off MLB etc
No, you’re overthinking it. It’s business, not personal. They’ll happily, slowly become the biggest publisher on everyone else’s platform and use that money to empower their own.
Somehow, I think towards the ending of this year you will begin to see more Sony games going to other platforms. Exclusives are cool when they profit a company and right now the only one enjoying that is Nintendo, they make profit on their hardware. However, Sony exclusives aren’t doing that great so much that Yoshida said they need PC, problem is they haven’t been doing well on PC lately probably why the considered Switch for Lego Horizon.
I think they could have published some of the games they money hatted on all platforms and made something. Stellar Blade for example could have been published for all platforms the way Xbox is publishing Ninja Gaiden Black 2 and 4 for all platforms.
If anything, that Direct boosted Xbox even detractors were praising Xbox despite the multiplatform push.
I’m not sure Xbox releasing any of their games like SOT has made those games more identified with other platforms. Halo and Gears going multiplat in my opinion will only increase the popularity of the platform they are identified with.
Ninja Gaiden Black 2 is mostly being played on Xbox and all the influencers are mainly on about the Xbox version considering it’s on Game Pass. I think if Xbox continues like this the market will be more likely begin to shift to their side.
Sony is kicking and screaming about and actually has a less understood and more confusing multi plat plan then Xbox but as we have seen Sony ALWAYS goes last on things so Xbox can absorb the Media and fan hate from the start. We saw Sony do this with back compat, Cross play, Generation shifts where Sony let Xbox take the brunt of new gen VS supporting old gen ( We believe in generations bullshit) and in turn Sony ended up doing all the same things they just waiting till the coast was clear and Xbox took the media pounding for it.
If Sony’s old business model was truly healthy they would not need to even be dipping toes into multi plat territory, they would not have needed to raise prices on hardware mid gen when typically that’s when hardware prices get huge cuts, they would still be doing 3rd party timed exclusives day in and day out.
Sony also wouldn’t have need such a heavy GAAS push if everything was super rosey with the walled garden and expensive AAA Single player games they courted people on last gen.
Sony is still having to deal with all the same issues every platform holder and publisher is having to deal with, Their Brand loyalty that the crazies have for them does not allow them to bypass the reality of the gaming industry.
Xbox clearly isn’t taking its foot off the gas on Game Pass, xCloud or their own devices. The money they make from game sales everywhere will be used to make their own offerings even better.
The day an Xbox handheld and/or console plays anything on Steam, including PlayStation games, is going to be so interesting. The mental gymnastics to somehow downplay the breadth and depth of games available will be mind-blowing. Gravity defying stuff we’ve never seen before.
The only thing preventing Sony from actually releasing more games on other platforms is the fact their 1st party is a complete mess and wasted many years on Cancelled GAAS projects.
It’s literally going to be awhile before Sony’s 1st party gets back to a regular cadence of new games. Sony will also have to find creative ways to get around the 1st party drought they are in now which is also going to last for a few more years.
So for the near term Sony is a hardware platform without a real 1st party, I’d much rather be in Xbox’s situation where they are now one of the worlds biggest Game publishers and their own console is just a nice option but not 100% needed to access your games and not 100% needed so the eco system does not fall apart.
If Playstation sales ever tanked the entire company of Sony would start to be in serious trouble. Sony still have a business model with a single point of failure that is on a sales decline across the entire industry.
Xbox consoles don’t show that lately and don’t look on the PC or Mobile as Xbox platforms. Yes it’s great for the shareholders but for the Xbox platform it’s not a good look for me
Because I don’t believe that putting their games on PC affect their business negativity in any way, it just gives them extra revenue, they’re not losing millions if console sales because of PC but Xbox putting their games on PlayStation absolutely harms the console brand, especially with PlayStation being such a bigger brand and now becoming known for also getting the Xbox games, so until Sony follows Xbox there, which they probably won’t, the old model isn’t dead.
Sony is just far smarter and savvy and still understands the market, Microsoft only wants profit as fast as possible, if they ever think going back to having exclusives in the future will benefit them they won’t be able to without massive backlash.
Some of the Xbox executives probably have that pride but they’re not the ones making the calls here, it’s the Microsoft CEO and other top dogs there.
The sad thing is, people don’t want to accept NG to be published by Xbox. It sounds like the new argument is going to be about taking the credit and they don’t want to credit them for NG. Mind you, it’s coming to all platforms (willing to bet Switch 2 later). That’s just sad.
Because it’s coming to all platforms and the vast majority of people will play it on PS5 and maybe Switch 2, this industry’s media and a lot of gamers still hate Microsoft and see them as a joke, which is why you won’t see any credit when they release bangers like Doom or Avowed but rake them over the coals over the misses.
I believe you failed to understand. This actually happened to IJ as well. When the reviews poured in, despite coming to PS5 later, they hated the fact Xbox got a great game based on numbers. Now, NG is back thanks to Xbox, but they don’t want to give them credit because Xbox is the devil.
In short, they want Xbox to get nothing. Good sales, good player count, good reviews, nothing.
I hope that the investment is not made just for gamepass alone, but towards building an even better community of players within the ecosystem that does not center on only gamepass. I realized that many folks online are focusing on purely on gamepass as of late and not more on stuff like Play Anywhere or Cloud enanbled stuff, which i think is where should be bigger investments in that area.
Also Case-By-Case is still a thing as of now in case some are living on a rock and are expecting all things over many games COULD go over BUT Xbox has made things clear that they WILL Put efforts on the Platform and Its USERBASE(Console, Pc and Cloud) first before Playstation Users. Also if playstation starts something truly bad that can actually harm the Xbox ecosystem? You can bet that Higher Ups are gonna go another direction in order to safe that. They are not friends with Sony and if Sony steps on too many of their toes then there will be a disaster for them in the long run once next gen truly starts. That is if Xbox does not fumble over their userbase during this time, which i really hope they do not ignore.
Also, if folks think Playstation will never to it i suggest you wait for the end of the year, cause my gut tells me that given recent news surrounding that ecosystem, i think we just might get something very surprising for a lot of people.
BOY, that was great to get out of my system. Cause god forbid i said this on a disaster that is Twitter.
Mess or not they will do it, and I think we will see that start sometime this year. People keep citing console sales and using this bogus number of 70ish million when Sony’s official sell through is listed as 56 million and also their software sales has been lackluster, if it wasn’t for this GAAS games they would be a worse situation. their fanbase is not buying games just look at Ninja Gaiden Black 2 the only ones talking about it seem to be the ones playing Game Pass. Xbox showed games that will cost around 300 dollars to get, I doubt you’re going to see that many sales on PlayStation.
Not to mention the Gaming OS competition is pretty much starting and if Sony wastes time they will be left behind especially if the market matures fast.
I thoroughly disagree with everything you just stated. The main focus is Play Anywhere and Cloud, as Game Pass has a budget that has stayed pretty steady. Releases year over year are roughly the same, quite high. The big growth focus is on the things you seem to think are “lesser”.
The userbase is the focus, MAU’s. Customer “trust” for our circle vs. actual customer trust for the casuals are two separate things that we don’t have the information to actually know.
Hmm, do you think that they will actually enter into a conversation about that this year? Cause i think they need to maintain what they have while being careful about certain trajectories that could make more users without ignoring the other ones outright. Now many say gamepass, but i feel like play anywhere and cloud is needed more so then ever especially with you saying that gamepass is steady and all that, so the next focus should be on both of these things at the moment, which seems to be the case specifically for Cloud but recent direct did mention play anywhere so i guess that is something they are now keen on actually talking about.
Who is being ignored? They have better 3rd party support right now that they have in a decade. They have better first party output, their prices haven’t gone up compared to inflation. I’m not seeing the “ignoring” of current customers, personally.
Am I the only one who sees removing Xbox logos as a sign of insecurity? On one hand, you’ve got a company that doesn’t see you as a threat, so they include you on their platforms. On the other hand, the act of scrubbing logos feels like a desperate move of ‘this is all we’ve got.’"
