I don’t believe Microsoft will port MCC or GW1 to other platforms in 2025. They are just old games made with old engines. If they ever do, they should focus on newer UE5 titles like the CE remake and E-Day.
Id sooner believe they would port all of H:MCC to UE5 and then as a result of that be able to release on all platforms, than to explicitly port the existing legacy H:MCC to Switch 2 and PS.
This is true but the hardcore do make a bit of noise.
And by the same token the hardcore like yourself may not see the brand in a negative light but to some it will
Xbox do need to actually advertise the value to people
To stop that perspective Xbox owner being told by word of mouth & freinds telling them ifs pointless you getting an xbox just get a PlayStation then you can get everything that’s on xbox you can get on PlayStation plus all the PlayStation games.
They need that advertising campaign to show the value, hopefully this message will then cut through
How about not caring it? internet discussion is always hell
Agreed but perhaps they should have made that the talking point. I mean no one cares if all Valve games are announced as multiplatform as the OS carries the complete platform. I think if Xbox had spoken publicly or teased this OS publicly all this would have been a nothing burger.
About not caring it?
Yea, simply doesn’t care about they say and go on
The biggest issue is that Xbox’s messaging isn’t leading the way. Leakers, who are right 10% of the time at best, keep informing everyone’s opinion on the platform. I don’t know how they fix that. They can’t respond to anything, otherwise they have to respond to all of it.
I think their idea was to use the “This is an Xbox” campaign to pivot and message their direction. I don’t think the campaign has gone exactly how they expected though. To me it seems Xbox is trying to build a complete platform or ecosystem sort of like Steam the problem is the inconsistency or that it’s just fractured for now. I think the Xbox OS integration that carries your library with you would have been a much better tease. If the idea of Xbox is the full PC and console library and experience on every device, I think there would be less of this continuous gloom and doom. I think Gamepass just needs to gain more awareness. Play Anywhere is great but what is needed is the full Xbox integration that brings all your Xbox library.
I agree. It also makes one wonder is Xbox leaking this intentionally to make people more accepting of it. In any case as you said the messaging isn’t leading the way and I think that should be the issue or matter they get resolved.
As someone who has been slowly moving to pc because of Xbox giving up I’m also very excited if Xbox can put steam on its next box. I’m already spending a lot for a rig next gen having a cheaper box to still play my steam games in another room is a plus for me
But this is the issue which you seemingly don’t want to consider.
Xbox by using this strategy of putting games on a PlayStation. Have left themselves wide open to shots like this. I’m talking purely PR wise
They hit with good news about the developer direct one day. Which generates a positive vibe and news stories
And then thanks to this strategy leakers can sweep those good stories away just like that and now they news stories are about Xbox putting their pillar franchises on PlayStation.
If a casual was looking to search for xbox on Google 2 days ago they may have to been tempted to get one due to the positive news of they’d looked yesterday they’d be seeing negative press.
& that’s what that’s the frustration about all this. They’ve left themselves open to all the negativity that can smoother their own positive messages.
That’s how brands fail, when consciously whether true or not the brand is perceived lesser than.
I get the business decisions and understand why it’s happening, but they’ve left themselves open to everything that is positive being countered with a negative and that does have an effect eventually.
That’s why companies have PR teams if didn’t matter companies wouldn’t have them
Thank you, I was really irritated by the reaction.
I do agree in some part that once again leakers have done a great job of putting out some “negative” news just days after a Developer Direct was announced…
As for the strategy itself, personally i’m not overly mad about it. Gamepass and the good games keep me locked into the Xbox ecosystem. I hear people say the hundreds they’ve invested will now by wasted but again from a personal point of view, i’ve had an Xbox since 2002. I bought a lot on the original Xbox but i got rid of that console long ago, same with the 360 but even though i can’t play any of those games i bought anymore, i don’t feel i wasted my money on those consoles, I got a good level enjoyment out of them for years and same will apply to the Series X. Only way i’d be annoyed is if they literally announced tomorrow that all Series consoles would no longer work. We’ll get at least one more gen of Xbox hardware and again personally i’ll look back and be happy i got my money’s worth.
I see where some fans point of views come from. 5 years later we’re only just getting FF7 Remake thanks to Sony and yet Microsoft are “giving” playstation games their own games. I understand the business side of things and why it’s been done, timing is just very important i think. I think Microsoft at the minimum should do timed exclusives. But at the same time, I would love to see games (and devs) like Perfect Dark, South of Midnight and Avowed thrive and get the sales and player numbers they deserve - I feel some of Microsoft’s games will definitely do well on the Switch 2.
It’s a game of What If, but it would be interesting to know how sales of games like Halo Infinite, Indianna Jones, Avowed, etc would have done on PC and Xbox if there was no Gamepass. I absolutely love the service but obviously it will have an impact on the cold hard sales of Microsoft games. At one point i would have thought the PC/Xbox userbase would have been “large enough” for Xbox to sell the volume of copies of games they needed so to speak.
I think this whole thing is smelling rather fishy, in the sense that i do think Xbox should be somewhat aware that any decisions they make could have drastic impacts towards their own ecosystem.
I really hope this year they try to focus on their costumers more instead of playstation and nintendo as i felt last year was a Don Matrick form of bad pr and messaging overall in my personal opinion.
At the very least i can respect Matt Booty for trying to aliviate a bit of the tension in recent months.
Also, i find it interesting in a way that now most people just do not trust whatever Phil Spencer says anymore and i gotta say that is not a really good sign no matter how folks feel about the character. Especially with the interview later this month with Destin. I just hope Phil at the very least does something about their commitment towards fans of the hardware front before its too late for them once next gen hits. As i fear that might be a turning point that can jeoperdize their chances if the ignore their userbase too much. Cause it is a important part of their brand no matter how Satya think it does not matter.
PR teams can’t do anything about so-called leakers getting on a podcast and saying anything lol. Your post is just a roundabout way of saying you wish they weren’t releasing games on on other consoles.
Looking at how companies have lost control over dev costs and how even big players like Ubisoft are now on the chopping board and games like Dragon Age have no guaranteed success, it just shows me how the gaming landscape has changed so much that they somewhat need that diversity.
Like if we don’t consider the games Jez announced (and even if we do), like most of those games are super old and is stuff you’d buy on sale on Xbox or steam for like 10$ right now and they have run their course.
We are still not at the day 1 phase yet and while I think it might come at some point, I do think it’ll be a case by case basis and not the norm for the time being.
So which would you guys rather have?
Xbox digging it heals into single platform strategy and putting the fate of the entire division to monthly Single hardware sales?
Or Xbox uncoupling your games/saves and services from a single point of failure (Xbox Hardware) and allowing you to play the Xbox Eco system on any device you want and thus feeing up the money you have spent over the decades to ensure a much longer life cycle where you still have access to all the games and services you have previously purchased?
Cause those were the choices since gamers and the gaming media fell subject to Sony’s narrative and the fact Sony’s sells based on brand loyalty alone.
For most of this gen Xbox has had the better hardware, better services, better 1st party games and better overall eco system. But because of brand loyatly to Sony it did not make a bit of difference.
So do you want Xbox to be stubborn and go down like Sega? Or do you want them to pivot to not only stay alive but thrive as the world biggest game publishers that also provides it’s own 2 gaming platforms in Xbox Console Hardware and Xbox for Windows and also allows their full eco system on many many other devices? Also the Xbox OS thing will just allow Xbox to be natively on almost anything.
People need to get the fuck over the Console Exclusive bullshit, that era of gaming is over and even Sony will be pivoting away from that as we have seen.
I’m telling you guys if you really love Xbox and value all the time and money you have put in the Eco System then their recent moves should be applauded cause it ensure’s the long term viability of all the money and time you’ve already put into it.
You have to change out the hardware anyway every 5-8 years, next time around you will just have ALOT more choices as to which and where you play your games.
The problem is their is a Cottage industry that popped up with the sole intent of tearing down Xbox, (PCgamer and Starfield are a prime example) because Sony fans are fucking click happy and revel in any bad news for Xbox. That is a psychological thing that Sony have catered to over the decades and it is a lost cause to fight it.
All Xbox can do is offer better games and a better eco system and innovate where it makes sense which is what they are doing.
You can’t fight decades of Gaming media narratives and Sony curating their brand into a cult.
I look forward to barrage of “I get it now” meme.
